About your Teacher Alisha Williams
From Long Island- New York, went to college at SUNY New Paltz Worked as a teacher assistant in a school for children with
special needs 3 years later I became kindergarten teacher in a private
Montessori School. I worked there for 6 years. During that 6 years, I received Montessori Certification in Denver, Colorado, a Masters Degree from Loyola in Maryland
and a permanent teaching certification in New York. I moved to N.C. in 2006.

Staggered Entry Days
Your child will only come 1 day during the first 3 official days on the school calendar. Please refer to your postcard to make sure which day he/she is supposed to come.
On your child’s first staggered entrance day, he/she will only be with a small group of their classmates. We do this to help them get used to their new surroundings in a smaller class setting.
Thursday, August 27th will be the first full day for the entire class.
Phase In Days •Three Days – August 24th, 25th, 26th
•Not sure? See postcard sent home or me for exact first day.
•All children – 2nd day is Thursday, August 27th.
Paperwork, Paperwork, Paperwork!!!!!
Please make sure you have filled out all paperwork required. Check both sides of the paper.
If you have not brought in the following items, please do so as soon as possible.
1. Copy of birth certificate (Certified)
2. Copy of Social Security Card
3. Proof of residence
4. Immunization card - Students must be up to date on all shots in order to attend Kindergarten!
5. Blue Health Assessment – Must be filled out
completely and signed by the doctor.
Help Children get ready for school
• Help children get 10 hours of sleep on school nights
• Be sure your child eats a healthy breakfast before school OR
• Remind your child to go to the cafeteria for breakfast before coming to class
• Send your child off to school with a hug or kiss or positive loving words so he/she arrives ready for a great day!
Saying Goodbye
•1st DAY: You may come in the room.
•After: Please say goodbye at the classroom door.
School Hours AND transportation
• Arrive 8:25-8:45 • Kiss and Go Line in front of school• Park and enter in front but use crosswalk• Car Riders Dismissal – 3:25• Park in the back and pick up your child in the
cafeteria from the Kindergarten area• Bus Riders – PLEASE get your child’s bus
number in café on Friday if they will EVER ride the bus• Changes in transportation written note • REMINDER: Please fill out sheet FRIDAY(bus stop) BEFORE
visiting our room.
Early checkout and attendance
• We learn ALL day, please make appointments for afterschool
• Note for absences-The countyrequires a note to be sent in upon a
child’s return to explain their absence. (within 3 days)
• A child should be fever free/vomit free for 24 hours before returning to school.
Let’s Eat!• Breakfast is $1.25 or free (reduced)—OPTIONAL-
WE DO NOT TAKE THEM…Please remind them to go to the cafeteria before coming to class
• Lunch is $2.00 or $.40 reduced, Milk is $.50• Label Lunch Boxes and keep it simple and easy• www.lunchprepay.com, or send bulk pay (daily
cash in the folder is difficult at this age)• See Janice to apply for reduced/free lunch….each year…each kid.LUNCH IS AT 1:00 EXCEPT ON WAVE DAYS-12:00.
Snack• Keep snack separate from lunch.• Labeled healthy snack • Example: water/graham crackers• We save juice boxes for lunch…so
only water to drink for snack…in labeled thermos. • Donations welcome (goldfish,
pretzels, etc.)!
Good Habits•WAVE folder– please check daily, use
pocket to send notes and labeled money, will have calendar with LOTS of info—this is the best way to communicate!
•Homework (nightly reading) and PLAY!
•Come to school on time.•Daily snack in snack bag.

Parent Involvement
•Wish list may get notes home if your child needs new glue sticks, etc.
•Volunteer in class AFTER the first 9 weeks-for reading individually

Wave Days•Children will visit 8 specials on one day every 6th day, will have PE2
2 days later and have counseling 2
days later every other cycle.•P.E., MUSIC, MATH, ART, SCIENCE,
CHINESE, COMPUTER, and LIBRARY12:00 LUNCH
forms• Multi-media Opt out – WILL NOT BE

Nurse •All medication to Nurse, that includes–Medicated Chap stick–Cough Drops
•30 days to get immunizations, and medical forms taken care of before child is suspended
PBIS – Positive Behavior• Our school has implemented a positive
behavior plan.
• “Catch the Wave”• Dolphin dollars-to attend celebrations, buy
special treasures (earn about 5 a day)
• Behavior matrix- “WAVE” Well prepared, act responsible, value self and others, and earth friendly

So, A Day in K
• Play, play and more play, nap, snack and play some more right? Not so much…Reading, Word Work, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies, Social/Communication Skills are Kindergarten.
• Schedule works around needs (movement, hunger, etc.), but we stick close to a consistent schedule to meet our curriculum goals
• We will PLAY as much as possible but it’s never enough. Unplug and PLAY at home!
