Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture and needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional and academic success. Attention is focused on creating and sustaining primary (school-wide), secondary (classroom), and tertiary (individual) systems of support that improve lifestyle results (personal, health, social, family, work, recreation) for all youth by making targeted misbehaviors less effective, efficient, and relevant, and by making desired behaviors more functional.

Understanding Title I Programs

The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001 authorizes two distinct program structures under Title I, Part A:

(1) Targeted Assistance Program (2) School-wide Program

Whitmore-Bolles is a School-wide Program - a comprehensive reform model used to upgrade the entire educational program in a Title I school, and it has the primary goal of ensuring that all students, particularly those who are low-achieving, demonstrate at least proficient levels of achievement of the Learning Standards.

Parent Involvement

Page 12: Welcome Parents and Families “Be the Change you want to see in the world” - Mahatma Gandhi

Children generally achieve better grades, test scores, and attendance.

Children consistently complete their homework.

Children have better self-esteem, are more self-disciplined, and show higher aspirations and motivation toward school.

Children's positive attitude about school often results in improved behavior in school and less suspension for disciplinary reasons.

Children from diverse cultural backgrounds tend to do better when parents and professionals work together to bridge the gap between the culture at home and the culture in school.

Junior high and high school students whose parents remain involved usually make better transitions and are less likely to drop out of school.

Parents are more confident in their parenting and decision-making skills.

As parents gain more knowledge of child development, there is more use of affection and positive reinforcement and less punishment on their children.

Consistent parent involvement leads to improved communication and relations between parents, teachers, and administrators.

Please get involved by joining the PTA & volunteering in the classroom!
