The Grand Lodgeof Ohio and The Most Worship-ful Prince Hall Grand Lodge ofOhio have been on a mission topromote unity and brotherhoodbetween the respective organiza-tions and weave the success of thisendeavor throughout our commu-nity.

This year's theme, “BringingUnity Into Our Community” waswell chosen and artfully plannedand conducted by the 1st MasonicDistrict of each Grand body. Uponentering the Masonic Center, thebrethren and their guests werewarmly greeted by members ofthe Grand Lodge of Ohio and thenby members of The Most Wor-shipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge.Illustrious Stephen P. Blackwell,Sr., one of the past honorees, andBro. Maxwell G. Davis, both fromthe 1st Prince Hall Masonic dis-trict, were on the front line, regis-tering the brethren for Lodgemeeting.

While guests enjoyed the com-forts and amenities of the hospi-tality room, officers representingLodges from both organizationsopened a Lodge of Master Masonsshortly after 4:00 p.m. Most Wor-shipful Grand Master Charles R.Murphy and Grand Officers ofThe Grand Lodge of Ohio, Freeand Accepted Masons, were intro-duced at the altar and given ap-propriate honors, followed by theintroduction of Prince Hall affili-ated Grand Heads of Houses. Most Worshipful Grand Master,Rev. James H. Willis, Sr. andelected and appointed Grand Of-ficers of The Most WorshipfulPrince Hall Grand Lodge of Ohiowere then introduced and receivedtheir proper honors. The Lodgewas then closed in due form.

Upon entering the main cathe-dral, the multicultural Universityof Dayton’s Ebony Heritage Sing-ers filled the cathedral with theirmelodic voices creating an atmo-sphere of “Unity in our Commu-

nity” that automatically inspiredone to reach out to everyone in theroom. RW Grand Chaplain, Rev.Wilton C. Blake, I, welcomed ev-eryone and served as Master ofCeremonies.

The first speaker was the Rev.Jason Wilson, who was over-whelmed by the presence of thecombined leadership in the roomand the honor he felt being amongus. He spoke on finding the valuein one another and using strength, our strengths, to accomplish greatthings. The next speaker, the Rev.Henry Swan, encouraged us to“love all men and honor brother-hood” and alluded that the “hood”in brotherhood makes all of us ourbrother’s keeper. Rabbi Moshe“Tom” Heyn, moved by the spiritin the room, was inspired with anew appreciation for unity and di-versity. The next speaker, the Rev.Joseph Pennington, spoke of howat the age of 19, Dr. Martin LutherKing’s “I have a Dream” speechin 1963, transformed his life. Hebecame an advocate for civilrights and believed that being anexample and modeling his life to-ward the dream will keep it frombeing lost.

Bishop E. Lynn Brown told astory about a young man fallingdown a well and crying out forhelp until several men came to hisaid. Each of the men had a lengthof rope, which individually, wasn't long enough to pull him outbut by working together, theywere able to rescue the young manand pull him to safety. The moral

of the story; we all need to tie ourropes together to be able to worktogether for the purpose of broth-erhood.

Since the inception of Brother-hood Night, a worthy brother fromeach of the Grand Bodies has re-ceived recognition for their contri-butions to Masonry and the com-munity. This year, Dr. Chester C.Pryor, II, PGM of the MWPHGrand Lodge of Ohio and MWBrother Michael A. Himes, PGMof The Grand Lodge of Ohio, Freeand Accepted Masons, were recipi-ents of the 2008 award. The historicmoment was captured as they lit theceremonial candle symbolizingunity and brotherhood.

Also, each year the proceedsfrom this event are donated to char-ity. The recipients of this year’s do-nation were: The Masonic Learn-ing Center for Dyslexia, The PrinceHall Scholarship Foundation, TheNeediest Kids of All and The GrandLodge Foundation of Ohio.

After remarks and congratula-tions from Ill. William R. Powers,Jr. 33°, of the Supreme Council,AASR of Cincinnati and Ill. SidneyD. A delicious dinner followedand throughout the room youcould see and hear people, hav-ing met for the first time, reach-

ing out to one another. An inspir-ing evening, the feeling of unityand brotherhood and a glimmerof hope that “The Dream” is stillalive makes us look forward tonext year’s event. Until then, “tieyour ropes together.”

excited about performing in my new position, and I would like tothank my fellow companions for giving me the opportunity to serveas their leader. During my term, I want to encourage everyone in thePrince Hall Masonic Family, and our personal family, to get involvedin helping all of my fellow Pythagorans on their journey to becomebetter sons and better men. We need Advisors who will see our needsand address them through positive programs in the Chapters. We needAdvisors that will communicate with our parents to strengthen thesuccess of these programs. We need our parents to help encourage theCompanions to make their meetings and participate within their Chap-ters.

One of my goals this year is to reclaim members who have goneastray due to disinterest or poor management within their Chapters. Iwant to bring them back so that they can once again be part of thiswonderful brotherhood. I want all young men to take advantage ofthe opportunity of being a Pythagoran. A solution to this is to get ourpresent companions and Chapters more involved in progressiveprojects so that they can inspire our new Companions and our dis-placed Companions. In this way our Chapters can grow stronger. I amlooking forward to all of the Chapters that are currently functioning,to increase their membership by ten Companions. In order to achievethis goal we need the support of both our families and more dedicatedPythagorans. I promise that I and my fellow Grand Officers will doall in our power to assist in the endeavors of the local Chapters tomake their programs a success. Just contact me. To the Prince Hallfamily, any advice or suggestions or involvement will be welcomed,so feel free to contact us at any time by way of the RWDYA.

I want to take this opportunity to congratulate Miss Tierney Allen, the newly elected Grand Royal Queen of Grand Girls Assembly. Isincerely hope her tenure will be successful. My Grand Officers and Ipromise to work together with her and her Grand Officers to makeour combined functions operate smoothly and efficiently.

I look forward to a wonderful and exciting year with the MWPHGrand Lodge, Amaranth Grand Chapter, Grand Girls Assembly andthe Most Venerable Grand Chapter Order of Pythagorans.Sincerely,Patrick Stewart, MVGMC 2008- 2009
