We are looking forward to having you here with us at the Advanced Placement Summer Institute (APSI) for a week of learning and fun! As we want to make your experience with us a happy and memorable one, we also want to make sure that it’s a smooth and stress-free process for you. In this Welcome Letter, you will find all the logistical information you need to prepare for your institute. It is very important that you read through this information thoroughly, as this will answer questions you might have prior and during the institute.
attire and workshop information
• Dress comfortably and appropriately for summer weather as you will be sitting/standing for long periods, and walking throughout campus to get to your classroom. Since the temperature in the classrooms fluctuate, you may want to bring a sweater in case you get cold!
• For those who will be working in science labs, make sure to wear closed-toe shoes as it is a UTSA safety requirement. You will not be allowed to work in a lab if you don’t wear the required shoes.
• Double-check your workshop’s course description (found on our website) for information on what to bring, study, or prepare for before APSI. Additions and edits to the participant requirements may be added without directly emailing institute participants.
• Please do not leave materials or items behind in your classroom at the end of each day.• Instructors may email you directly with further information.

Parking information Park at the Bauerle Road Garage. There will be parking attendants on both the north and south entrances to the parking garage whom will assign you a swipe card that will grant you in/out access for the week. The Bauerle Road Garage is the only place you are allowed to park for this event. If you park elsewhere without a permit, you are subject to get a parking ticket. Unfortunately, we will not be able to help you resolve any parking tickets. If you are planning to bring your motorcycle, please contact us so that we can make special arrangements, as you cannot park motorcycles in the garage.
For security reasons, please do not leave any valuables or electronics in your car.
AP SUMMER INSTITUTE Check-in will be from 6:45 - 8:00 a.m.

4 Orientation begins at 8:00 a.m. in the Recital Hall, ART 2.03.02
Please note that summer classes and orientation are in session, and hallways may be crowded.

Dining Options for AP Summer Institute
DINING OPTIONS
Each morning, join us in BB 2.06.04 for breakfast where you can mingle with other teachers and let us know how your AP Summer Institute experience is going.
For lunch, you will be given a pre-loaded dining card that you may use for the week at any on-campus dining location. Each workshop will attend lunch on a staggered schedule; your instructor will review the times with you.
During your scheduled lunch on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, we recommend you use the dining options located on the bottom floor of the John Peace Library (JPL) building (1), as the University Center (UC) (2) dining options will be used for UTSA Student Orienation.
Your other options include the P.O.D Express, located inside the McKinney Humanities Building (3) (grab-n-go meals, beverages and snacks) and Einstein Bros. Bagels, located on the first floor of the Biotechnology, Sciences & Engineering (BSE) (4) Building. Please see Dining Options Map for building locations.
Please note that your dining card will need to be turned in with your evaluation on Friday afternoon.

• Grab-and-Go Breakfast will be served daily. • You need to be in your classroom by 8 a.m. to receive all 30 contact hours. Attendance will be taken daily. • Lunch will be served during staggered time periods; your AP instructor will discuss lunch times and workshop breaks with you.

Certification and Attendance PolicyParticipants meet for thirty hours of instruction during the week and must attend at least 90% of the workshop (i.e., miss no more than three hours of instruction) in order to receive a certificate of completion.
At the Office of Extended Education, we want to make your time at our Advanced Placement Summer Institute both educational and enjoyable. If you have any questions prior to the institute, have any special dietary needs, or need special accommodations, please call us at your earliest convenience. Our offices are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We look forward to seeing you!
please note...Course evaluations will be collected, and certificates will be distributed at the conclusion of your workshop Friday afternoon. If you have not fulfilled your attendance requirements, your workshop evaluation, or if you have not paid, your certificate will be witheld.
