Welcome to the Oakview, Perkin and Triple R bull sale. What a sale these consignors had last year! Selling 10 bulls over $10,000 and having a very good average. It was definitely a destination sale that many smart investors took part in. Calving ease, power and longevity are some of the key words I heard from the consignors when touring their herds this past January. I am going to share another word, “hair”. Manitoba bulls have great hair coats, and that’s something all producers should be looking for. The first three days of touring it was -40 degrees, I wish I had some of that great hair. Do your cowherd a favour, come dip into these genetic pools and improve both your calf crop and cow herd in one fell swoop. In last year’s sales management comments Jay talked about Oakview's fast growth and improvement in their breeding program in such a short time. I thought of how many herds Jay has been through in over 20 years of doing this and that’s quite the compliment! The improvements haven’t stopped; Todd and Danna have continued on their journey and this will be evident when you’re assessing this year’s offering. Check their web site for videos. Darryl & Tanya Perkin of Perkin Land & Cattle Co have a high regard for cow families. I’ve heard Darryl say, “The cow behind the bull is maybe as important as the bull himself!” So very true! Walking through the bull battery you’re bound to see soggy, soft-made bulls with some extra length. Last year was their first year in this sale and they fit right in, both in work ethic and quality of the animals. I am so very happy to have them back again this year and for many more to come. Triple R makes sure that your needs are met long after sales day has come and gone. This is obvious by the repeat customers that visit their bull pens. One of the top black bulls that I have seen all year long is in this pen. Rick had said, “If he had a white blaze on him, he’d be staying put at Triple R to join our herd bull battery.” Triple R has some other rascals that will catch your attention too. It is with a sense of pride that we offer this group of bulls for auction. Firstly, we would like to thank everyone who took the time to come to our farm, to our sales, or to bid on our cattle this past year. We are not able to move forward without our customer base and we hope that our genetics in turn propel your operation to where you want it to be. Our red bulls are a very even group with a couple of Kill Switch sons and a Captain Morgan son rising to the top. All the bulls express good muscle shape and offer a range of calving ease for any application you may want to use it for. This group of black bulls is one of our most powerful offerings. Homozygous Polled We purchased these embryos in 2016 as I had always admired the Jewel cow from afar and really wanted to see what this mating would be like. Both bulls are full of muscle Captain Morgan Flushmates

and soft made, they have tremendous capacity and thick, electric hair that gives them a standout look, although they are a bit different in their overall make up. The red bull has a massive hip and quarter and you have to love that blood red color, he’s gained 4.5 lbs/day since weaning and his weight per day of age is 4 lbs/day. The black bull moves out with a long stride and possesses a proud herdbull look, much like his sire Captain Morgan who sold for a mere $160,000 a number of years back. This bull's grandmother is one of those flushmates and they are quite a group to behold. They have sold bulls to Playgreen Farms, Scott Patterson, Robin Bodyn, Corey Desrochers, Ty Dewitz, Doug Poschenrieder, Ken Wright and Christopher Tack; females to R Plus Simmentals and Stan Enns and raised 3 daughters that we kept (including the dam of this bull). Another long-sided Black Iron son that got a bit more performance from his 680S x Doll dam. A bull with a touch more frame that might cross well with a British type cow. He ranked second in his contemporary group at yearling with an ADG of 4.65lbs/day and a weight per day of age of 4.15lbs/day. His calves will push down the scale at weaning time.

This smaller-framed bull is a meat wagon. He is deep-ribbed with a huge quarter. He really has that compact 680S look in a hairy red package. The 680S x Doll cows have really produced well for us. Welcome to the 2nd Annual Oakview, Perking Triple R Simmental Bull Sale. We started off our offering with a tremendous long yearling that is sure to stir some attention. He’s a blend of everything we do; he’s out of a red cow and a Fleck bull. We have an outstanding pair of Royal Red sons with tremendous quarter. Once again the Current Affair sire group is quite impressive. The majority of the Current Affair bulls are off of heifers, which makes them even more remarkable! The Outlaws are again a very consistently thick and powerful, yet easy calving group. We start the Fullblood offering with a pair of Colossal flushmates that are freight-train long and a pair of Fern x Houston embryos that are hard to fault. The performance bull line-up includes sons from Blueprint, Oakview Titan, United, Philosophy, Zeus and Woody. We are very excited about the calving ease full Flecks we have available too out of Jacuzzi and Zetterberg. The Fullblood bulls have been tested for the non-diluter gene, which opens up opportunities for use on black cattle. The red bulls have been tested for homozygous polled status. All bulls are semen tested prior to the sale and are fully vaccinated and have pour on. The bulls were weaned in September at which time they are brought home and put on a complete pelleted ration. Once harvest was complete they were switched to TMR, which provides a consistent high forage diet for healthier rumen digestion, which in turn will provide you, the buyer, with a sound, heavy-muscled bull for years to come. Oakview Digger follows the phenotype of Lot 58 (102E). He is a dark red, smooth-made bull with a splash of white on his face. While Current Affair spent most of the breeding season in with heifers we did use him on a few select cows. The result is a powerful yet easy calving bull that possesses great hair, is soggy made with lots of natural thickness and muscling. External Affair is a good footed, smooth made bull who is extremely deep flanked. When we purchased Current Affair one of the things we admired most about him was the overall capacity and the fullness he possessed. In the four short years that we have owned KOP 100X she has given us two exceptional females that are working hard in our herd in addition to a meat-machine of a bull that sold to David Remmick of ND and her latest success, External Affair.

The following 8 bulls are all Current Affair’s off of first calf heifers. It’s pretty impressive that these calving ease bulls have performed so great off of moms that are still growing themselves. They were born small and exploded into bulls with lots of thickness and depth, performing with their “performance” counterparts.

Oakview Edgar has all of the indicators to be a spectacular calving ease specialist. He was born at 78lbs to a first calf heifer out of Red Mountain – a spectacularly easy calving bull himself. Everest is the lead off bull in our Outlaw sire group. Outlaw is a maternal sibling to the $160,000 WFL Wescott 24C bull. While we didn’t originally purchase Outlaw as a calving ease bull, we have been pleasantly surprised with his consistency in siring calves in the 80’s. Here are the resulting bulls from an embryo lot we purchased from Langer Fleckvieh Simmentals. Exception and his flushmate Elliot are both double goggled, bulls that are very similar in their makeup. They are direct sons of the old school Overhill Hivy bull and Langer’s flush cow “Terry”. This pair of bulls were both born at 90lbs and carry milk EPD numbers that indicated their daughters will milk hard and leave you with big calves in the fall.

TERMS - The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. Transcon Livestock Corp. reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should any purchaser fail to settle for his purchase Transcon Livestock Corp. reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage either publicly or privately, without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released.BID - Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No private sales will be allowed except as otherwise provided for in the terms and conditions. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder.SALES TAXES – Applicable sales taxes will be charged on semen, embryos and trucking fees (if listed), respective to the home province of the buyer, not the seller.DISPUTES - In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final.PURCHASER’S RISK - Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.
