Chirk Castle Chirk Castle was built in the late 13th century by

Marcher Lord Roger Mortimer, during the reign of

King Edward I.

Sir Thomas Myddelton bought the castle in 1595, and hisdescendants continued to live at Chirk for over 400years. The first formal garden was laid in the 17thcentury, with later alterations by William Emes and thenNorah Lindsey. The current garden covers 5.5 acres ofmanicured lawns, clipped yews, herbaceous borders,beautiful rose, shrub and rock gardens, the woodedPleasure Ground and the 18th century ha-ha.
