Our mission

The Latin American Business Association (LABA) is a student organization with the mission of creating a liaison between Latin America and the Stern Community at an academic, corporate, and social level facilitating and promoting cultural and professional exchange.

• Book-keep revenues/expenses of events (Laba Party, conferences)

Goals for 2005-2006

• Global Business Conference – February, 2006

– Organization traditionally led by LABA and EMA

– Last year’s keynote speaker: Gary Perlin – CFO of Capital One Corporation (for this year not yet confirmed)

– LABA Members get a discount

• Possible Conference on Latin America in conjunction with other top b-schools (Columbia, Tuck and others)

• Brown Bag Lunches

– Explore issues of interest in Latin A./Spain by inviting leading experts

– Invite members of companies/banks to network and explore recruiting opportunities

Goals for 2005-2006

• Completely reformulate LABA’s website, replacing the “Stern” appearance for a more

personalized and professional design.

• Improve features such as the resume upload and the Alumni pages.

• Create a recruiting page that will assist prospective students in knowing more about

the admissions process and about the Latin American community at Stern.

• Increase the visibility of the website by introducing popular features such as a gallery

page and, if possibile, a newsletter page.

• Enhance the LABA Alumni database – Already in progress

• Organize Alumni events in Latin America – NYC, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, and Peru

during Fall 2005 and Spring 2006

• Coordinate the services that LABA can provide to its country members – Web pages

per region, alumni directory and contact list, etc.

• Incorporate a LABA Group in Linkedin Site

• Help recruiting to reach potential local job opportunities for students

Nomination/Election Rules

1. Apply for max. 2 positions in order of preference

2. Send e-mail to [email protected] with resume AND 1 paragraph stating why do you want to join LABA

3. Needs to be a 1st yr officer to later run for president in the next election

How to become a 1st year officer

Process, aprox. ~1 week

CommunicationSelection Nomination

• Send an email to LABA indicating your interest (Select more than one position if you want)

• Deadline to send email is:

Monday Sep 26th 05:00 PM

• Every 2nd year VP will interview candidates for their areas (9/27~9/29)

• Officers will meet and decide on candidates (9/29)

• Everyone will be communicated of the decision via phone or email
