Before we get started here is a brief background about Mrs. Kelley and
Mrs. Mallaghan
Mrs. Kelley• Born and Raised in Tampa, Florida. • Married my high school
sweetheart, Frank. • One son, Patrick (5)• Here we are…
Mrs. Kelley’s Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education
• Nine years teaching experience in Elementary Education.
• Started at Hunter’s Green Elementary• Part of team that opened Pride
Elementary.
Mrs. Mallaghan• Born and raised in Boston,
Massachusetts, just moved to Tampa in December.
• I am married to John and have two daughters…Madelyn (6) and Grace (3)
Mrs. Mallaghan’s Background
• Bachelors Degree in Communications• Five years Corporate Marketing
Experience in high tech field.• Three years teaching grades 1-5 as a
media specialist in Massachusetts. • Two years working on Masters Degree
in Elementary Education (anticipated completion this winter).
Sunshine State Standards
• The Sunshine State Standards is the curriculum that is followed in Hillsborough County.
• They were first approved by the State Board of Education in 1996 as a means of identifying academic expectations for student achievement in FLA.

How do we implement the
Reading Standards?Through various lesson from
our Trade Book, as well as….• Shared Reading - The
teacher models what a skilled reader does with text such as print concepts, strategies, and comprehension. The students engage with the particular text over a series of repeated readings for a variety of purposes.
• Read Aloud- reading aloud to students in order to foster their love of reading and to expose students to a variety of story structures, genres and authors.
• Guided Reading Students work in small groups based on instructional level in which they: – develop print concepts– use of cuing systems– Comprehension– Vocabulary

• Heritage Doll- Students create a doll that represents their heritage. They have an opportunity to present to the class.
Timeline Project
• Students create timeline representing each year of their life.
This project provides children the concept of time, history, and that
history also tells stories of people.
Flat Stanley
Flat Stanely is a character from the story Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown.
Students make paper Flat Stanley's and begin a journal with him for a few days. Then Flat Stanley and the journal are sent to other schools and/or families where students there treat Flat Stanley as a guest and complete the journal. He travels all around the world and each time we map where he has visited. This incorporates many elements of our Sunshine State Standards.
