Years 5+6 Trip to Whipsnade Zoo
On Monday 29th April, Year 5/6 visited Whipsnade Zoo as part of their Evolution and Adaptation
topic. The day consisted of a workshop where the children got to handle different artefacts such
as skulls and fur from different animals. They worked in groups to discuss how these animals have
adapted to survive in their chosen habitat. The children even got to handle a rat if they were brave
enough! The rest of the day consisted of exploring the different enclosures and discovering how
these animals have adapted over time to survive. The children had a thoroughly enriching day which
will provide a fantastic platform for the children to enhance and consolidate their learning
throughout their topic work this term. They were a credit to the school and we were very proud of
them all.
On Thursday 16th May, 35 children from KS1 and KS2 joined Mr Gadsby to celebrate their fantastic
reading during the Spring term. Even though Spring term is relatively short, there were numerous
children who managed to read over a million words with a special mention going to Rushi who
amassed an amazing two million words during that time! Children were invited if they had over 90%
average on all of their quizzes; had accumulated the most words read in their year group or had
demonstrated a real growth mindset attitude with their reading. The children enjoyed a cake or two
outside whilst listening to Mr Gadsby retell the story of The Twits. Keep up the good work
everybody and we’ll see who can make a difference in their reading during the Summer term.
Reading Superstars
On Thursday 9th May, we returned to Hulcote Nursing home for a game of balloon badminton. This
activity is a big favourite of the residents and one in which we were very much looking forward to
as well. Making up our team was: Arthur, Cherry, Iram, Emily, Micah, Joe, Tommy and Florence O.
It was a fierce battle but Bierton managed to come out on top, even though it was an away tie! The
children were a complete credit to the school and the residents really enjoy the interaction. Every
visit we make, there are more residents who come out of their rooms to participate in the activity.
On Friday 26th April, a few superstar readers in Year 2 were lucky enough to attend a
storytelling session at David Wilson Homes. A professional storyteller took the children on a
journey through magical stories that gain their complete attention for a whole hour. The children
listened beautifully and joined in with the actions when required. The children represented the
school impeccably and we were very proud of them. We would like to thank David Homes for
providing this opportunity and continuing our community link.
Year 3/4 Residential Stay at Shenley Lane
The children had an amazing few days away and had the opportunity to do a range of ex-
citing activities. Some of these required them to overcome fears, for example climbing to
the top of the climbing wall or building the tallest tower in the crate challenge. Body zorb-
ing was an activity enjoyed by all as they ran around in large inflatable tubes trying to
knock over their partner. The final event on the last day was the In2Action Olympics each
team represented a different country and carried out a range of different events. These
included relay races, long jump and the javelin. The whole experience was a great oppor-
tunity to build on their team work skills and the children did an amazing job in their
teams.
A reminder that we are now a NUT FREE zone. Thank you for ensuring that your children do not have any products with nuts in their school lunch boxes. It is very much appreciated.
Staffing Update
Congratulations to Miss Smith who is getting married in the summer holidays. We
wish both her and her husband to be a very special day and a life time of happiness.
When Miss Smith returns in September her name will be Mrs Bramley.
Miss Roberts and Miss Evans are officially joining our team and are extremely excited to be continuing to
work in Key Stage 2. They both know lots of the children across the school already and are thrilled to be
providing them exciting learning opportunities.
We are really pleased to have Miss S Smith join our team in September. She is an experienced teacher
who has been teaching for several years across the primary phase particularly focusing on EYFS + KS1.

Mr Gadsby will be supporting the
teaching and learning across the
school in his role as Assistant Head
and will continue to promote Literacy
and Reading to all the children
alongside his many other roles.

Year 5 Athletics Competition
On Thursday 2nd May, 16 Year 5 children took part in an Athletics Competition at the
Mandeville School. Here is a report written by the children, who participated at the event:
The athletics event was really enjoyable because we took part in many different activities
including: vortex throw, javelin and long jump. We also competed in track events, running
100m and 600m – we even and all managed to finish the 600m race with a smile! It was a
fantastic experience and we were so supportive to each other and were also supported by
our teammates, teachers and the Mandeville PE students.
We are always so grateful to
be able to attend these
events and a special thank you
to our parents and grandpar-
ents for supporting pick-ups
and drop offs!

Bierton School v Oak Green Netball Match
On Tuesday 14th May, Bierton’s Netball Team played their last netball match of the season
against Oak Green School. The team tried their hardest and showed fantastic agility skills and
teamwork but unfortunately lost the match. Throughout the tournament, the children have
practised their skills in our weekly club and have shown our Bierton values and British values
throughout their matches.
Thank you to all the girls and boys who have been part of the team this year. They have showed
fantastic commitment throughout the year and it has been a nail-biting tournament.
