SATURDAY, JUNE 3

10:00–10:45 A.M.TIME TO LEARN ENRICHMENT SESSIONS (Concurrent)

SESSION I: Campus Walking Tour led by Mary Helen Kashuba, SSJ, D.M.L. ’55 (also known as Sister Irma Mercedes). Explore the history and architecture of our beloved campus. Meet in Fournier Hall Lobby. Tour will leave promptly at 10a.m.

SESSION II: Out of the Virtual Cloister: The Sisters of St. Joseph of Philadelphia After Vatican II Ryan Murphy, M.A., M.S. After Pope St. John XXIII’s call to “open the windows of the Church to let in some fresh air,” the Second Vatican Council was commissioned in 1962 and over the next few years dramatically transformed the Catholic Church. This was particularly true for many women religious who as vowed members of active communities, were still bound by the Church’s rigidity and convent rules. This presentation looks at the internal and external cultural shifts within the Sisters of St. Joseph of Philadelphia from the 1960s-2000s, and how the emergence of a feminist consciousness after Vatican II empowered them to take more active roles in promoting social justice and gender equality.

SESSION III: Dealing with Complicated Grief Marie Conn, Ph.D., Fellow of Thanatology and Professor of Religious Studies We all grieve when we lose someone. But when that loss is “complicated,” we need more help to do the grief work required to go from the “old normal” through the pain to the “new normal.” Join me for a conversation about this complicated grief.

SESSION IV: Stay Connected: Social Media and You Social media is a great opportunity to #keepintouch. Join Cristina Diaz ’15, B.A., Social Media and Community Relations Manager, to learn about the many ways different social media platforms, like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, can help you stay connected with friends, classmates and Chestnut Hill College.

GENERAL INFORMATION

ARRIVAL TIME Reunion Weekend check-in tables open at 3 p.m. on Friday. If arriving in the area earlier, please consider enjoying one of the five off campus and one on campus “Arriving Early” options noted on page 3. Plus, there’s always the King of Prussia Mall — America’s second largest, “the East Coast’s premier shopping destination” — located only 12 miles/20 minutes from campus.

Enter the campus from Germantown Avenue onto Rogers Drive, proceeding to Fournier Circle and the area near Logue Library.

EXTRA SET OF HANDS Valets will be available to park cars upon arrival and will return keys immediately to the owners. Please wait for returned keys before proceeding with checking in. Students will be available to unload and carry luggage to dorm rooms. Valet service and luggage assistance will be available for arrivals/departures on Friday from 3 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. & 3 to 10 p.m.; Sunday, 8 a.m. to noon.

VENUES & FUNCTION ROOMS With the exceptions of the Rotunda and the Motherhouse Chapel, all rooms used for Reunion Weekend activities and events are now air-conditioned.

HOUSING Alumni registering as singles will be housed in the all-suites, air-conditioned Mary Jackson Fitzsimmons ’35 Hall, located behind Logue Library and next to Fontbonne Hall. Following Reunion Weekend tradition, first preference for rooms is given to the Golden Griffins reunion classes. All Golden Griffin reunion classes are asked to reply with room requests by April 22nd, after which suites will be offered to other classes. Every effort will be made to house classes and friends together, but this cannot be guaranteed. Although everyone who plans to attend Reunion must complete the registration process, those who plan to share a suite are asked to designate one member to take the additional step of indicating the suite members on her/his reply form.

EMERGENCY CONTACT (215.242.7777) You are encouraged to have a cell or other personal phone (and charger) with you throughout the weekend so that you receive emergency calls immediately. If your phone is not operating, or you travel without one, you may receive emergency calls through the College’s Security staff.

LOST & FOUND (215.242.7777) Lost items should be reported to the Security staff immediately. Articles found on campus will be held at the Security Desk in the Fournier Hall Lobby throughout the weekend and for three weeks following, after which they will be donated to charity.

MINORS ON CAMPUS If planning to bring minor children with you on Saturday evening to the picnic dinner, please be aware that the College’s Minors on Campus policy will be in effect. A minor, defined as an individual who is not registered as a student at Chestnut Hill College and who is under the age of 18, must be accompanied by a supervising adult at all times. This supervising adult is responsible for the minor’s conduct on campus. There must be one supervising adult accompanying for every two minors visiting the campus. We look forward to welcoming your minor children to CHC and ask you to keep this policy in mind when registering for Saturday’s activities.

PHOTOGRAPHY Chestnut Hill College hires two photographers during the weekend, one to record activities and events — “candids” — and one specifically for class pictures on Saturday. Your registration form includes a line for you to indicate your class picture order at $15 per picture, which will be mailed to you during the summer. The candids are used for CHC publications, websites, fundraising materials and other non-commercial purposes. Please inform the Alumni Relations Office in advance if you do not want to be photographed for these purposes. We also ask you to repeat your instruction to the photographer in the event that you are inadvertently included in a group candid or crowd shot.

ANNUAL REUNION MEMORIAL MASS All alumni are welcome to celebrate the Annual Reunion Memorial Mass on Saturday afternoon. This is the only liturgy celebrated during the weekend.

GENERAL INFORMATION

REUNION WEEKEND COSTS The prices charged for activities, events and meals offset a portion of the costs for food, beverages, food service, housekeeping, entertainment, photography, valet parking, and other items and services offered throughout the weekend. We attempt to keep all fees reasonable so that as many alumni as possible can enjoy their return home to CHC. Reservations at $75 per night include bed & bath linens and full breakfast the following morning. Refunds are not available after April 1.

RESERVE YOUR PLACE… CHOOSE ONE OF TWO WAYS TO REGISTER

• Online — through our secure online community at www.CHCgriffinsonline.com/reunion2017.

• Paper Registration — by completing the form enclosed with this booklet and returning it with either a check payable to CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE, indicating Reunion Weekend 2017, or including payment information for your MasterCard, Visa, AmEx or Discover credit card.

When completing your registration, please be sure to check off every activity, meal or other event that we should plan for you. Help us make your stay a pleasant one by supplying the information we need.

REUNION-YEAR GIVING Any charitable gift that you make to the College for any purpose during your Reunion year will be counted as your individual Reunion gift. All gifts made by you and your classmates will be counted in the class participation totals presented in the Donor Report next fall.

Giving options for your Reunion-year consideration include:

Gift in Support of Annual Operations The Griffin Fund is the single most important fundraising effort each year, as it provides needed operational funds for classrooms, labs, student organizations and more. Many alumni celebrate the occasion of their Reunion year by increasing their traditional annual gift, by resuming their annual giving after several years’ absence, or by making their first gift ever to the College. Please contact Kimberly Yost-Moyer, Senior Director of Development, at 215.248.7089 or [email protected].
