About this guideThis guide describes how to install VCC software in a thin-client environment.

This guide is written for system administrators and others with a background ininformation technology.

Installing VCC softwareBefore you begin

• Ensure that the thin-client workstation has the following:

• Windows® Vista through Windows 10 with a 32- or 64-bit client operatingsystem.

• A minimum of 2 MB disk space.

• One of the following:

• Microsoft® Remote Desktop Connection (RDS) client 5.0 or later.

• Citrix client 6.0 or later (required only for Citrix servers).

• Ensure that you have administrator rights for this computer.

• Close all programs before starting the installation.

Install the VCC drivers

1. Open the Welch Allyn VCC software setup.exe. The Welcome screen appears.

If this screen does not appear, launch the setup.exe file in the installation folder.

2. Click Install. Setup installs the VCC components and then displays a messageverifying a successful installation.

3. Click Close. VCC installation is now complete.

Note Microsoft .NET Framework is not required for the VCC client.


Registering the VCC drivers with Citrix®

If you install Citrix ICA client on your client workstation after installing the Welch AllynVirtual Channel, follow these steps to install and register the Welch Allyn Virtual Channelplug-in portion for Citrix.

1. Select Start>Settings>Control Panel. The Control Panel appears.

2. Select Add or Remove Programs. Windows lists the programs on this computer.

3. Ensure that Change or Remove Programs is selected in the left pane.

4. Scroll to Welch Allyn Virtual Channel Client:

5. Click Change. The Welch Allyn Virtual Channel Client installation wizard appears.

6. Click Next. The Program Maintenance screen appears.

7. Select Repair and then click Next. The Ready to Repair the Program screen displays.

8. Click Install. The wizard installs the settings you specified.

Note On Windows Vista and later, you must have elevated administrative privileges toperform this procedure.


Installing WYSE® for Windows EmbeddedTo install the Welch Allyn Virtual Channel Client (VCC) on a WYSE thin terminal, completethe following steps:

1. Press and hold the Shift key while logging off.

2. Log on as an Administrator.

3. Disable the Write filter.

The system reboots.

4. Return to Administrator mode by repeating steps 1 and 2.

5. Install VCC as described in “Installing VCC software” on page 3.

6. Connect the device to the system using a shielded USB cable.

7. Enable the Write filter.

The system reboots and the device is ready to use in a thin-client environment.

Note If a device is not available, you can skip this step.


Removing VCC software1. Select Start>Settings>Control Panel. The Control Panel appears.


3. Ensure that Change or Remove Programs is selected in the left pane.

4. Scroll to the following Welch Allyn program:

5. Select the program. The program listing expands to display additional information anda Change/Remove button.

6. Select Change/Remove and confirm your desire to remove the program. Windowsremoves the program. A re-boot is not required to complete the uninstall.

To verify that the program you deleted is removed:

1. Select Start>Settings>Control Panel. The Control Panel appears.


3. Visually inspect to make sure that the program you deleted no longer appears in thelist of programs.

In certain situations, programs external to Welch Allyn software may block uninstallation.If this is a possibility in your IT environment, contact your IT department to verify whetheradditional steps are required.


END-USER LICENSE AGREEMENTTHIS END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT (“EULA,” OR FROM TIME TO TIME HEREIN,“AGREEMENT”), IS A CONTRACT BETWEEN YOU (EITHER AN INDIVIDUAL OR ASINGLE LEGAL ENTITY (AND YOUR AUTHORIZED USERS)) (“YOU”) AND WELCHALLYN, INC. (“WELCH ALLYN”), AND COVERS YOUR USE OF SOFTWARE DEVELOPEDAND OWNED BY WELCH ALLYN THAT ENABLES CONNECTION OF YOUR PERSONALCOMPUTER(S) TO CERTAIN COMPATIBLE WELCH ALLYN MEDICAL DEVICES TOFACILITATE THE TRANSMISSION OF PATIENT DATA INTO THIRD PARTY ELECTRONICMEDICAL RECORD (“EMR”) SOFTWARE, AND ANY UPDATES AND/OR UPGRADESTHERETO, IF APPLICABLE (“SOFTWARE”), AND ANY DOCUMENTATION ASSOCIATEDWITH SUCH SOFTWARE, IF APPLICABLE (“DOCUMENTATION”). ALL SUCHSOFTWARE AND DOCUMENTATION ARE REFERRED TO HEREIN AS THE "SOFTWAREPRODUCT."

Grant of License. Subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement, and inconsideration of the payment of a license fee for the Software Product, Welch Allynhereby grants You the non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sub-licensable limited right touse the Software Product to transmit patient data from a single compatible Welch Allynmedical device to third party EMR software solely for Your internal business purposes.The Software Product may be installed on multiple of Your personal computers and maybe used by multiple of Your authorized users, but each compatible Welch Allyn medicaldevice that You desire to interoperate with third party EMR software requires its ownlicense. You shall ensure that each of Your authorized users fully complies with the termsand conditions of this Agreement to the fullest extent they apply.

Ownership. The Software Product is licensed, not sold, to You. The Software Productand all copies thereof are the proprietary property of Welch Allyn, and all right, title andinterest in and to the Software Product, including, without limitation, all intellectualproperty rights, are retained by Welch Allyn. Nothing in this Agreement shall be deemedto grant, by implication, estoppel or otherwise, a license under any of Welch Allyn’sexisting or future intellectual property rights. All rights not expressly granted to You underthis Agreement are hereby reserved by Welch Allyn.

Restrictions and Requirements. You shall: (i) maintain the Software Product in strictconfidence; (ii) retain all copyright and related notices of Welch Allyn rights in and to theSoftware Product; and (iii) be responsible for, and take appropriate steps to ensure Yourauthorized users’ compliance with Your obligations under this Agreement. You shall not,nor permit any third party to: (i) modify, adapt, or create derivative works of the SoftwareProduct; (ii) translate, de-compile, reverse compile, reverse engineer, disassemble orotherwise decode the Software Product; or (iii) sublicense, sell, resell, publish, disclose,assign, rent, lease, lend, transfer (whether through a local area network or other networksystem or through any computer subscriber system or “bulletin board” system, orotherwise), post, transmit, distribute or otherwise make the Software Product available toanyone else, or make the Software Product available through time sharing or managedservices, in whole or in part.

Confidentiality. You agree that the Software Product is the confidential information ofWelch Allyn (“Welch Allyn Confidential Information”). Other non-public, commerciallysensitive, proprietary, trade secret or confidential information disclosed by Welch Allyn toYou in connection with this Agreement will be deemed Welch Allyn ConfidentialInformation if at the time of its disclosure it is marked or otherwise designated in writingas confidential or similar, or, if disclosed orally or visually, is identified as confidential at thetime of disclosure. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Welch Allyn Confidential Informationdoes not include information that: (i) was in Your rightful possession on or before receiptfrom Welch Allyn, free of any obligation to keep it confidential; (ii) is or becomes a matter


of public knowledge through no action or inaction of Yours; (iii) is rightfully received by Youfrom a third party without a duty of confidentiality; or (iv) is independently developed byYou without use of or reference to Welch Allyn Confidential Information. You agree toprotect Welch Allyn Confidential Information using at least the same degree of care thatyou use to protect Your own confidential information of similar importance, but no lessthan a reasonable degree of care. You agree to use Welch Allyn Confidential Informationsolely for the purpose of exercising Your rights and performing Your obligations under thisAgreement and for no other purpose. You further agree not to disclose Welch AllynConfidential Information to anyone other than Your Authorized Users who are bound byobligations of confidentiality at least as restrictive as those contained in this Agreement.

Term; Termination. Subject to Your payment of the license fee, the term of thisAgreement shall commence upon Your initial download, installation or use of the SoftwareProduct. Welch Allyn may terminate the license grant and this Agreement in writing withimmediate effect upon Your material breach of any terms of this Agreement by You andYour failure to cure such material breach within 30 days of Your receipt of written notice ofsuch material breach from Welch Allyn. Material breach of any terms of this Agreementincludes Your failure to pay the license fee for the Software Product. Upon Your materialbreach of this Agreement, Welch Allyn will be entitled to exercise any and all rights andremedies available to it at law or in equity. Welch Allyn’s remedies may be exercisedconcurrently or separately, and the exercise of any one remedy will not be deemed anelection of such remedy or to preclude the exercise of any other remedy. Upontermination of this Agreement, You shall cease use of the Software Product, return toWelch Allyn, or destroy, all copies of the Software Product and all Welch Allyn ConfidentialInformation in Your possession, custody, or control, and provide written certification toWelch Allyn of such return or destruction within 10 days of termination. Return ordestruction of the Software Product and all Welch Allyn Confidential Information includesexpunging and destroying all copies thereof in electronic form residing on any computer,server, or other device or medium.

Your Review. As between You and Welch Allyn, You are responsible for all decisions,acts, and omissions of any persons in connection with the delivery of medical care orother services to any patients. Before the Software Product is placed into a liveproduction environment, it is Your responsibility to review and test the Software Product(in conjunction with the third party EMR software and all other related content, materials,and workflows), make autonomous decisions about system settings and configurationbased upon Your needs, practices, and standards, and reach Your own independentdetermination that the Software Product is appropriate for such live productionenvironment use. Any such use by You (or Your authorized users) will constitute Yourrepresentation that You have complied with the foregoing. The Software Product isdesigned for clinical use and is a tool to assist You and Your authorized users in thedelivery of medical care, but should not be viewed as prescriptive or authoritative. TheSoftware Product is not a substitute for, and You shall ensure that each of Your authorizedusers applies in connection with the use thereof, independent professional medicaljudgment. The Software Product is not designed for use, and neither You, nor Yourauthorized users, shall use it, in any system that provides medical care without theparticipation of properly trained clinical personnel. Any live production environment use ofthe Software Product by You (or Your authorized users) will constitute Your acceptance ofclinical responsibility for the use of the Software Product. You shall indemnify, defend,and hold harmless Welch Allyn and its directors, officers, employees, and agents (each, a“Welch Allyn Indemnitee”) from and against any losses, damages, liabilities, actions,judgments, awards, penalties, fines, costs or expenses of whatever kind, includingreasonable attorneys’ fees, resulting from any third party claim, demand, or suit againstany Welch Allyn Indemnitee to the extent arising out of or in connection with a breach ofany of Your foregoing representations and obligations.


NO WARRANTY. YOU EXPRESSLY ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE THAT USE OF THESOFTWARE PRODUCT IS AT YOUR SOLE RISK AND THAT THE ENTIRE RISK AS TOSATISFACTORY QUALITY, PERFORMANCE, ACCURACY, AND EFFORT IS SOLELY WITHYOU. THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT IS PROVIDED “AS IS” WITH ALL FAULTS ANDWITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. WELCH ALLYN HEREBY DISCLAIMS ALLWARRANTIES WITH RESPECT TO THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT, WHETHER EXPRESS,IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, THE IMPLIEDWARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ANDNON-INFRINGEMENT. YOU ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE THAT ANY PROMISES,STATEMENTS, REPRESENTATIONS, WARRANTIES OR GUARANTEES MADE BY ANYTHIRD PARTY (INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY DISTRIBUTOR OR RESELLERAUTHORIZED BY WELCH ALLYN TO SELL THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT) SHALL NOT BEBINDING ON WELCH ALLYN IN ANY RESPECT AND SHALL BE NULL AND VOID AS TOWELCH ALLYN. YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE OPERATION OF THE SOFTWAREPRODUCT MAY NOT BE ERROR-FREE IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES, THAT CODINGERROR “BUGS” IN THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED YET,AND THAT THE OPERATION OF THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT MAY BE INTERRUPTEDFOR REASONABLE PERIODS OF TIME BY REASON OF SUCH BUGS. BECAUSE OFTHE CONTINUAL DEVELOPMENT OF NEW TECHNIQUES FOR INTRUDING UPON ANDATTACKING NETWORKS, WELCH ALLYN DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWAREPRODUCT OR ANY HARDWARE, SYSTEM, OR NETWORK ON WHICH THE SOFTWAREPRODUCT IS USED OR ACCESSED WILL BE FREE OF VULNERABILITY TO INTRUSIONOR ATTACK.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY. TO THE EXTENT NOT PROHIBITED BY APPLICABLE LAW,IN NO EVENT WILL WELCH ALLYN BE LIABLE FOR PERSONAL INJURY, OR ANYINCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGESWHATSOEVER, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, DAMAGES FOR LOSS OFPROFITS, LOSS OF DATA, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR ANY OTHER COMMERCIALDAMAGES OR LOSSES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THIS AGREEMENT ORYOUR USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT, HOWEVER CAUSED,WHETHER UNDER A THEORY OF CONTRACT, WARRANTY, TORT (INCLUDINGNEGLIGENCE), PRODUCTS LIABILITY, OR OTHERWISE, EVEN IF WELCH ALLYN HASBEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES, AND NOTWITHSTANDINGTHE FAILURE OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF ANY REMEDY.

Assignment. This Agreement may not be assigned, nor may any of Your obligationsunder this Agreement be delegated, in whole or in part, by You by operation of law,merger, or any other means, without Welch Allyn’s express prior written consent, and anyattempted assignment in contravention of the foregoing will be null and void.

Independent Contractors. This Agreement will not be construed as creating an agency,partnership, joint venture, fiduciary duty, or any other form of legal association betweenYou and Welch Allyn, and You will not represent to the contrary, whether expressly, byimplication, appearance, or otherwise.

Export. You may not use, export, re-export, import, sell or transfer the Software Productexcept as authorized by United States law, the laws of the jurisdiction in which Youobtained the Software Product, and any other applicable laws and regulations. Inparticular, but without limitation, the Software Product may not be exported or re-exported: (a) into any United States- embargoed countries (“Embargoed Countries”); or(b) to anyone on the United States Treasury Department’s List of Specially DesignatedNationals or the United States Department of Commerce Denied Person’s List or EntityList (each, a “Prohibited List”). By using the Software Product, You represent and warrantthat You are not located in any Embargoed Country or listed on any Prohibited List.


Integration; Amendment. This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement betweenthe parties with respect to the use of the Software Product licensed hereunder andsupersedes all previous communications, representations, agreements andunderstandings relating to the subject matter hereof. No representations, promises, oragreements between the parties that are not contained herein or incorporated herein byreference will be of any force or effect. This Agreement may be modified only by a writtenamendment signed by both parties.

Separability. All provisions of this Agreement will be considered as separate terms andconditions and in the event any one will be held illegal, invalid, or unenforceable, all theother provisions hereof will remain in full force and effect as if the illegal, invalid, orunenforceable provisions were not a part of this Agreement.

Governing Law. This Agreement will be governed by and interpreted in accordance withthe laws of the State of New York without regard to principles of choice of law or conflictsof laws.
