CheerCheerleading is an intense physical activ-ity based upon organized routines, usually ranging anywhere from one to three minutes, which contains many components of dance, jumps, chants, and cheers in or-der to direct spectators of events to cheer for sports teams at games or to participate in cheerleading competitions. The Dance Academy Program Cheer Squad is about TEAM build-ing. We challenge our Cheerleaders to work together as a team by giving them goals to accomplish at the end of each practice, such as developing small group cheers on their own as well as participating in “bonding” games that promotes win-ning as a team. The City of West Hollywood, through its Arts

and Cultural Affairs Commission, is pleased to

announce its first ever WeHo Reads! Embracing

a community-wide celebration of reading and

expanding literacy through the arts, everyone

is invited to participate in a series of special

events, panels, and book discussions revolving

around this year’s featured book, Nina Revoyr’s

The Age of Dreaming. The book explores the

history of Los Angeles, the heady beginnings of

the movie industry, and the interplay of race and

celebrity. It is part historical novel, part mystery,

and part story of unfulfilled love, told through

the voice of a forgotten star who must gradually

come to terms with his past.

WeHo Reads kicks off at the West Hollywood Book Fair (westhollywoodbookfair.org) on Sunday, September 29, 2013, featuring author Nina Revoyr! A limited number of free books will be made available.

Other WeHo Reads events planned include: A film screening featuring a silent film

starring Sessue Hayakawa, the real-life inspiration for the main character of the book.

Panel discussion entitled: “Secrets, Scandals, Sordid Stories and the Silver Screen” An “in-conversation” event with author Nina Revoyr

Please visit www.weho.org/arts for the schedule, or follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/artbeatwesthollywood.
