    Industry Partnership for Consumer Industries

    Industry Partners are select Member companies of the World Economic Forum that areactively involved in the Forums mission at the industry level. With privileged access tothe Forums multistakeholder networks and experts, partnership brings visibility andinsight to strategic decision-making on the most important industry and cross-industryrelated issues. This access and insight allows Partners to contribute to leading changein global and regional issues and engage in action to support corporate globalcitizenship.

    The Forum connects people. Its one of the best networks Ive ever seen, especially for the issues where thesolutions involve not only business but also government, NGOs and academia.

    Partnership Highlights

    The Consumer Industries community develops multistakeholder projects on themes such as sustainability, agriculture,health and water security. Over the year, Partners contributed to a broad portfolio of projects and actively participated invarious working groups and task forces with key public officials and other constituents. Highlights include: Supported by the UN, raised water security to be the top media story at the Annual Meeting 2008 and shared forecast

    in 2009; generated dialogue between policy-makers and business on water shortage, based on a geopolitical andeconomic forecast of the world in 2025 under a business as usual scenario

    In partnership with the World Health Organization, supported development of regional and global partnerships betweenpublic and private sectors, focused on prevention of chronic disease through workplace wellness

    Developed a cutting edge report, Redesigning Business Value: A Roadmap to Sustainable Consumption, providing anaspirational framework for innovation, collaboration and long-term investment as the way towards a sustainable future

    Captured best practice in examples of scalable business models that combat poverty and hunger along the food valuechain in a report entitled The Next Billions

    Built a coalition of over 30 business, government and civil society organizations in Kenya, The Business AllianceAgainst Chronic Hunger, to identify innovative business approaches to combating poverty and hunger

    Built partnerships with local governments on the future of agriculture in Tanzania and Vietnam

    Industry Partnership Privileges

    Partnership offers privileged access to the Forums networks across business, government, academ ia and non-governmental organizations for chairs/CEOs and senior leadership teams to identify issues that can benefit fromcollaborative action bringing together key leaders to create the necessary change. This is achieved through:

    Projects and Initiatives

    New Vision for Agriculture Engages high-level leaders of industry, government and international institutions withsupport from leading experts to define a shared agenda for agricultural development byaddressing topics such as investment, technology, policy, trade and environmentalsustainability. Participants define joint priorities, recommendations and opportunities forcollaboration and impact at global and country levels.

    Driving SustainableConsumption

    Working in collaboration with a coalition of interested governments and internationalorganisations, the Policy Innovation Platform will engage business to supply reliable andunbiased guidance to advance public policies that embrace and enable the dynamic nature ofbusiness innovation. This platform will focus on sharing the experience and benefits of specificand proven sets of policies that have accelerated and scaled up sustainable consumption. Aseries of dialogues and workshops will take place at the Forums regional events in 2011.

    Water Resources GroupPhase 2

    Builds awareness on the risks of water insecurity and the importance of the water-energy-food nexus to sustained economic growth. Aligning the Forum's experience in buildingpublic-private coalitions with the latest analytics in the water resource space, the initiative isworking with a group of leader countries to demonstrate proof of concept of the ACTprocess: to engage in Analysis to Convene multistakeholder discussions and to undertakepublic-private water sector Transformations. The key focus areas for technology deploymentand best practice sharing include water use improvements in agriculture, municipalinfrastructure and industry, as well as innovations in financing and institutional reform.

    Green GrowthPartnerships

    Aims to help a number of partner governments and their domestic private sector turn theirnational or regional low carbon development strategies into investible propositions. At theend of a two year process success will be judged on whether the initiative has been able todevelop investment propositions for select sectors of their economies (for example energy,transportation, land-use) that are ready for uptake in the capital market. Outcomes will bepresented at COP17 in Durban, at Rio +20, at COP18, and will feed in the G20 Business

    Task Force on the Green Economy.

    Health and Well-being Fosters collaboration of key stakeholders across sectors on issues pertaining to globalhealth and including international bodies such as the World Health Organization. Two areasof focus include the Workplace Wellness Alliance, engaging employers in a collaboration toimprove employee health and productivity and reduce the burden of chronic diseases, andIncentives for Healthy Living, supporting high-level dialogue on the partnerships and policiesneeded to facilitate healthy lifestyles and develop markets for health. Deliverables of theinitiatives are planned to input into the UN Summit on Non-Communicable Diseases inSeptember 2011.

    Global Agenda CouncilsThe Global Agenda Councils represent an innovation in global cooperation, creating multistakeholder groups to tacklethe most important issues on the global agenda. Each Council convenes 15-20 leading experts to propose solutions,devise strategies and evaluate the effectiveness of actions. The insight is fed direct ly into the Forums activities,

    including the Industry Partnership Programme. Based on individual expertise, senior executives from Industry Partnersmay be invited to participate. Of the network of 70 Global Agenda Councils, the following are particularly relevant to theConsumer Industries:
