A very moving ceremony was held at the Ryde Cenotaph in Ryde Park where the sacrifices of our young nation in the First World War and all those who have suffered as a consequence of armed conflict since then were remembered. Earlier in the day I was proud to officially launch the Ryde Remembers 2,000 Poppies project. Already individuals and groups are busy making up red poppies for a mass planting being planned for Anzac Day 2015. Simultaneously, specially designed black and gold commemorative street signs have started going up all over our City identifying local street names like Anzac Avenue and Diggers Avenue that have links to our WWI history. You can find out more about both these projects on the Council’s website at www.ryde.nsw.gov.au/ryderemembers Ryde Housing Affordability Summit As any young family knows, housing affordability in Sydney is a hot topic at the moment. Rental stress is particularly acute, not just for young families, but for singles and older people as well. That is why I am pleased to announce the City of Ryde’s first Housing Affordability Summit on Tuesday 18 November at the Ryde Civic Hall (9.00am – 12 noon). Members of the community are invited to attend the Summit which will bring together government agencies, not-for-profit organisations and local government experts to discuss this matter and related issues. Seniors Road Safety Calendar 2015 Banjo Paterson Park Wharf Upgrade At the Council Meeting of the 10 June 2014 Council resolved to upgrade the Banjo Paterson Park Wharf. After finalising the design, materials and tenders, Council are now ready to undertake the works. These works include the structural strengthening of piers, and removing and upgrading the deck with new materials. The wharf will be closed to the public for a period of the works. Ryde RemembersThis week’s Remembrance Day services held very special significance as we commemorate the centenary of World War One. Banjo Paterson Park Wharf UpgradeAt the Council Meeting of the 10 June 2014 Council resolved to upgrade the Banjo Paterson Park Wharf. After finalising the design, materials and tenders, Council are now ready to undertake the works. These works include the structural strengthening of piers, and removing and upgrading the deck with new materials. The wharf will be closed to the public for a period of the works.
