Cambridge Friends Meeting off of Brattle St.between Hawthorn St.
and Willard St. just outside of Harvard Square
As fall approaches students, including the children of many MAP
recipients, begin to think aboutreturning to school. School has the
ability provide homeless children with a much-needed sense of
stability in their otherwise chaotic lives. It also provides them
with the close relationships they may nothave at home and
self-confidence through their successes. Upon completion it is the
single mostimportant step they can take to bring themselves out of
poverty. However, if these children are notprovided the simple
tools necessary to be an active participant in their education it
is a very likelypossibility that school will become yet another
worrisome burden to add to their list, including housingand hunger.
In MA 75% of the 50,000 youth facing homeless drop out of
school.
In an effort to assist these children in gaining the education
necessary to succeed academically MAP isholding our 6th Annual
School Supply Drive. Last year we were able to provide 73 students
withbackpacks and school supplies. This year we aim to increase
that number to 100. Please considercontributing to our 2013 School
Supply Drive; donations may be dropped off at MAP during our hours
of operation, Tuesday & Thursday 9am-3pm or on Sundays if you
are member of Cambridge FriendsMeeting through Tuesday August 27th.
If necessary, other times may be arranged for drop off.
