While Congress sleeps, states areprotecting gun makers from frivo-lous lawsuits aimed at puttingthem out of business. So far, according to the National RifleAssociation, 33 states have enactedlaws to protect gun makers. It is asrational to blame gun makers forcriminal use of their weapons as itis to blame Ford Motor Companywhen a reckless driver crashes aFord pick-up.

Welcome, Illegal AliensU.S. Border Patrol agents have beenordered not to arrest illegal aliensalong a section of the Arizona bor-der where the Minutemen patrolledlast month because an increase inapprehensions would prove theireffectiveness, The Washington Timesreports. More than a dozen agents, not identified for fear of retribu-tion, said orders relayed by BorderPatrol supervisors at the Naco, Ariz.station made it clear that arrestswere “not to go up” along the 23-mile section patrolled in April bythe Minutemen.

Illegal Aliens FloggedWhile illegal aliens walk easilyacross the southern border to claimMedicaid and other welfare bene-fits, Botswana has strong controls.Illegal aliens crossing the borderinto Botswana are flogged, despite

objections from neighboringZimbabwe (where most of the ille-gals come from). “If they break thelaw in our country, they are goingto be punished,” said OliphantMfa, Botswana’s assistant ministerfor presidential affairs.

Dumb-foundedOnly a little more than half—57percent—of “journalists” were ableto name freedom of the press as aright guaranteed by the FirstAmendment, according to a surveyreleased by the University of Con-necticut. More than a quarter—28percent—of journalists think thepress reports information inaccu-rately. Sixty-one percent of readersagree.

Summers CurtsiesHarvard President Lawrence Sum-mers is paying penance. Severalmonths ago, Summers had angeredsome people by suggesting thatinherent differences in the brains ofmales and females may account forfemales’ underrepresentation in thesciences. He has committed theschool to spending $50 millionover the next decade to make itmore convenient for women tostudy science. Inducements includementoring, childcare and late-nighttransportation.

CIA on the RunThe CIA plans to relocate the head-quarters of its domestic division, which is responsible for operationsand recruitment in the UnitedStates, to Denver, The WashingtonPost reports. About $20 million hasbeen tentatively budgeted to relo-cate employees of the CIA’s Nation-al Resources Division.

If Americans KnewAccording to the group If Amer-icans Knew, since Sept. 29, 2000,118 Israeli children have beenkilled by Palestinians while 680

Palestinian children have beenkilled by Israelis. In that same timeframe, 1,049 Israelis and 3,606Palestinians have been killed infighting. In addition, 7,169 Israelisand 28,695 Palestinians have beeninjured. It is also worth noting thatfrom that time, zero Israeli homeshave been demolished by Pales-tinians while 4,170 Palestinianhomes have been demolished byIsrael. To put things in perspective, the United States gives $15 millionper day to the Israeli governmentand military and only $232,290per day to Palestinian non-govern-mental organizations.

With Friends Like ThatAs of February 2005, the StateDepartment has listed Uzbekistanas a “strong partner on UnitedStates foreign policy and securityissues ranging from Iraq to Cuba.”The department also noted that theUnited States valued Uzbekistan asa “stable, moderate force in a tur-bulent region.” Uzbekistan hasbeen accused of brutally torturingprisoners and boiling alive politicaldissidents by human rights groupsand foreign diplomats.

IN THIS WEEK’S ISSUE we are againfocusing on Sept. 11, and, more specifical-ly, a European lecture series, sponsored byJimmy Walter, in which some of the lead-ing 9-11 investigators, reporters andresearchers will be speaking.

The fact that this is receiving no men-tion in the American press is quite telling.Time and time again, the multibillion-dol-lar Establishment news media has shownitself to be wholly uninterested in investi-gating anomalies surrounding 9-11 and hasbeen concerned only with maintaining theexisting cover-up.

Were it not for courageous men likeWalter, attorney Phil Berg, AFP correspon-dent Christopher Bollyn, reporter GregSzymanski, filmmaker Eric Hufschmid, radio talk show host David von Kleist andWing TV’s Victor Thorn, among others, there would be a total news blackout onSept. 11. We all owe them a great deal ofthanks for their tireless work trying to getthe truth to the people in spite of the diffi-cult odds.

Once again, American Free Press is aloneamong national newspapers to report onthe latest evidence and theories about thistragedy. There is compelling evidence thatelites in Washington—at the very least—had foreknowledge of an impending attackand did nothing to stop it. Read our reportsand judge for yourself. And, if you have notpicked up a copy of AFP’s special investiga-tive report on 9-11, titled 50 UnansweredQuestions, order one today. Now in itseighth edition, this 20-page supplementcontains the latest information on the Sept.11 terrorist attack. Look formore on this in the future.

Army buddies who reportedly decided to become anti-gov-ernment terrorists after the government killing of more than80 men, women and children at Waco, Texas.

“That this mass murder of Americans was accomplishedby two disgruntled veterans acting alone seems to be theconclusion reached by those in authority,” Rohrabachersaid on the House floor. “However, there are some unset-tling loose ends and unanswered questions.”*

While serving multiple life sentences, Nichols remainedsilent for 10 years. In a letter from his cell at the “supermax”prison in Colorado marking the 10th anniversary of thebombing, Nichols said Arkansas gun collector Roger Mooredonated explosives, made up of two components, toMcVeigh, who used them in Oklahoma City.

His revelations came in a letter to Kathy Sanders, wholost two grandchildren in the bombing, in which Nichols, now 50, said he “felt the record should be set straight.”

In previous statements, Moore has denied any role in thebombing.

However, AFP reported in the April 11 issue that explo-sives unearthed by the FBI on March 31 at the former homeof Nichols were supplied by Moore and reportedly had hisfingerprints on them.

Moore has admitted being an FBI informant as long as adecade ago.

In his letter, Nichols said he wanted to work withCongress “to help expose the government cover-up in mycase and thus reveal the truth in the OKC bombing.” Hesaid FBI tests of the components found at his home inHerington, Kan., would support his allegation that thematerial came from Moore and his friend, Karen Anderson.

“That case of nitromethane came directly from RogerMoore’s Royal, Ark., home, and his prints should be foundon that box and/or tubes, and Karen Anderson’s prints may

be there as well,” Nichols wrote.“Moore provided McVeigh with the binary explosives

known as KINE-STIK (aka KINE-PAK) which consist of twocomponents—ground ammonium nitrate and nitro-methane—and [are approximately] the size of a stick ofdynamite,” Nichols wrote. “Moore testified in open courtthat he did not know what KINE-STIK nor KINE-PAK was—he was clearly lying.

“The KINE-STIK that McVeigh got from Moore was usedin the OKC bombing! . . . the [federal government] knowsof Roger Moore’s corrupt activities and they are protectinghim and covering up his involvement with McVeigh at theOKC bombing,” Nichols wrote.

In his House speech, Rohrabacher suggested thatNichols, who could be subpoenaed as a star witness, hasanswers to crucial questions. Rohrabacher also wants toreview 23 surveillance tapes of activities around the Murrahbuilding site on the morning of the bombing. The tapeshave not been released to the public, even though the trialsare over and the FBI says its investigation is closed.

“This is a free society,” Rohrabacher said. “And if thepublic is to have faith in their government, we cannot keepsecrets like this.” ★

We have longed for years to say somethingnice about a Bilderberg-controlled newspa-per and are grateful to The Wall StreetJournal for the opportunity.

The WSJ nailed it right in an editorial May 18 aboutsenators who are elected as “conservatives” and “budgethawks” but who turn into New Deal Republicans of thetax-and-spend tradition.

By a vote of 89-11, the Senate approved a $295 billionhighway bill that exceeds the $284 billion President Bushsaid was acceptable. It also defies the budget resolutionCongress adopted only last month. The resolution is notbinding but supposedly sets parameters to controlspending levels.

Bush was urged to make good on his veto threat bythe WSJ.

“The ‘yeas’ included conservatives of the RepublicanStudy Committee and Club for Growth variety, some ofwhom had won election as staunch budget hawks onlymonths before,” the WSJ thundered. Bravo.

“Only nine GOP senators—Sam Brownback, JohnCornyn, Kay Bailey Hutchison, Jim DeMint, LindseyGraham, Jon Kyl, John McCain, Judd Gregg and JohnSununu—saw fit to vote against the bill,” the WSJ noted.

“If Senate Republicans want to drive a Mack truck overtheir own budget resolution, and defy their president inthe process, the honest and transparent way to do it is byproposing an increase in the gas tax to pay for the newspending,” said the WSJ. “If House-Senate negotiationsdon’t produce a bill within the president’s price range, aveto is in order.”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. ★

Remember, Nixon was thrown out of office only for a cover-up. These people, including Bush, have done much more,”said Berg in an exclusive interview.

“We need to bring these criminals in government to jus-tice for killing over 3,000 Americans [and] the thousandswho have needlessly died in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

Without much support or media attention at home, Berghas left on a seven-stop European tour to try and raisemoney and awareness about the U.S. government’s involve-ment in 9-11. The speaking tour begins in Amsterdam thencontinues to Berlin, Paris, Madrid, London and Vienna.

Berg is joining American entrepreneur Jimmy Walter, thetour’s sponsor, who has taken up residence overseas afterspending millions here to alert the public about the truthbehind 9-11. Berg and Walter together hope to combineefforts to raise needed money for the 9-11 lawsuit, as well asshowing Europeans that many Americans disagree withBush and his imperialistic foreign policy agenda. AFP corre-spondent Christopher Bollyn is also traveling with them.

Although millions of Americans now agree with Bergabout the U.S. government’s complicity in 9-11, Berg saidthe movement hasn’t gained momentum because the main-stream media together with the government has hidden thetruth from the American people.

“Hopefully the foreign press will be more receptive toour cause, and the word will get back home,” said Berg, whoclaims the American media has purposely ignored his law-suit against Bush in order to protect the administrationagainst any type of public backlash.

“This is a major lawsuit with worldwide implications, but the media has chosen to ignore it. Why?” asked Berg, saying the lack of public attention has not damped hisefforts at getting at the truth behind 9-11.

And the extensive 237-page complaint, filed inNovember 2004 on behalf of WTC maintenance workerWilliam Rodriguez, attempts to get at the truth while unrav-eling the complicated fact-scenario involving the govern-ment’s hand in 9-11 before, during and after the attacks.

Although Rodriguez doesn’t claim to know everythingabout the government’s complicity, he is going to testifythat he heard strange explosions before and after the jetlin-er struck one of the towers.

Rodriguez, working at the WTC on the morning of 9-11,claims to have heard detonated bomb explosions. Besidesthe timing of the suspicious bomb blasts, Rodriguez claimsthey occurred on lower floors of the high-rise.

Independent investigators said both towers suspiciouslyfell “like a house of cards,” claiming that Rodriguez proba-bly heard pre-arranged detonated bomb blasts, strategicallyplaced and timed to make it appear that the jetliner was thecause of the collapse.

From the beginning, the government has always heldfirm to the story that burning jet fuel after impact broughtdown the towers. However, critics claim the government’stheory is impossible since much more was needed in orderto bring the towers down so quickly. They claim it is morelikely that explosive devices were placed in the towers anddetonated when the jetliners made impact.

Besides trying to disprove the government’s theorybehind the WTC collapse, Berg’s suit goes much further, attempting to prove that a 9-11 conspiracy began yearsbefore the incident.

“The beauty behind a RICO case is that we are allowedto use as admissible evidence facts and events that occurredmany years before and even years after 9-11,” said Bergabout his choice to use the federal RICO laws against Bushand his cronies. “The government normally uses RICO forMafia probes, but in this case it’s a conspiracy within thegovernment itself that the RICO laws can help expose.”

After filing the case, government lawyers were quick togo on the offensive, filing a motion to dismiss on groundsof national security, among a number of other legal maneu-vers in order that the case never see the light of day.

“They have tried everything to stop this case from beingheard,” added Berg.

The case now is still in the early stages with full-blowndiscovery and depositions not yet taking place. However,Berg said he “can’t wait to depose” Bush and other higher-ups regarding the tough questions about 9-11 never askedor answered previously.

“I just got word the judge didn’t dismiss the case, but haschanged venue to New York,” said Berg, who finallyreceived notice from the court regarding the hearing to dis-miss the case held several weeks ago in Philadelphia.

Asked what motivated him to take on such an enormous

challenge, he said:“I never realized I would get this involved, but the more

research I did, the more it became clear that Bush and hiscronies knew about 9-11, then actively covered up their par-ticipation and foreknowledge.

“Right after 9-11 occurred, I knew something was strangewhen I saw [Chief of Staff] Andy Card tell Bush about thesecond plane hitting the towers. There was absolutely noreaction on the president’s face, and it was then I under-stood he must have known about the plan all along.”

In order to raise money at home for the lawsuit and raisepublic awareness, Berg operates a web site at 911for-thetruth.com, a site where a transcript of the entire RICOcomplaint can be found as well as updating viewers aboutthe latest news about the 9-11 truth movement.

Berg’s extensive complaint seeks relief for Rodriguezbased on 13 counts, including misprision of a felony, mis-prision of treason, relief under the Anti-Terrorism Act, reliefunder the War Crimes Act and relief for and from crimesagainst humanity.

Specifically, it attempts to show a web of governmentconspiracy dating back to the late 1970s when the CIAhelped Osama bin Laden fight the Soviets in Afghanistan.

Berg claims this web of government deceit and financialbacking continues all the way up to the days just preceding9-11 as witnesses will testify and records will reveal.

The complaint goes on to say that the defendants delib-erately concealed the fact that they had ample warnings ofterrorist attacks and failed to act on them in order to carryout a full-blown war on terrorism as a means to justify theirneo-conservative political goals.

“It is time for a non-violent revolution by the millions ofAmericans who are tired of their rights being diminished bythe Bush administration, tired of the lies of the Bush admin-istration, tired of the lies about Iraq and tired and disgustedwith the lies about 9-11,” said Berg.

The Rodriguez action aims to prove that the defendantsconspired to allow and did allow the attacks to happen bydelaying military interceptions of the hijacked planes. Italso seeks to show that the WTC was taken down by explo-sives in a controlled demolition.

“Now is the time to stand tall together and bring backour freedoms as they stood under the Declaration ofIndependence, Bill of Rights and the Constitution of theUnited States,” said Berg. ★

The administration has always firmly denied hav-ing any concrete evidence or warnings about 9-11. After the attacks, President Bush was quick topoint out officials were caught completely offguard and were totally unaware of any plans to

topple the twin towers. However, more and more informa-tion has surfaced showing Bush and others are lying aboutwhat they really knew.

The following story does not touch on evidence showinggovernment complicity in the actual events of 9-11, butstrongly suggests the government took part in plans andpreparations to bring about “another Pearl Harbor event” inorder to justify the planned wars in the Middle East.

In 1987, two brothers in the bin Laden family told twoAmerican scientists about U.S. government plans to topplethe World Trade towers and bring about war in the MiddleEast.

Rene Welch of New Mexico and Ronald Logsdon ofPhiladelphia tell an incredible story of how they wereapproached while in Arizona by a group of men, includingtwo brothers in the bin Laden family, who were represent-ing a wealthy group interested in the technology they wereworking on.

The bin Ladens apparently heard of the couple’s highlyinnovative technology and thought it might help them intheir effort to counter Western hegemony in the Middle Eastand take back Saudi Arabia’s oil reserves.

The two brothers, mavericks of the family, apparentlydid not agree with the course and direction of American col-onization (others in their large family were helping Americaachieve its goal).

During the course of the meeting with the bin Ladens in1987, Logsdon said he was shown film of secret U.S. intel-ligence briefings, mapping a strategy for an eventual MiddleEast takeover. He said the strategy included creating a PearlHarbor-like event in order to stampede the American peo-ple, paving an easy path to war with immediate publicapproval.

Incredibly, the bin Ladens told Logsdon the Pearl Harborevent planned, as a prerequisite to war in the Middle East, was the destruction of the twin towers, using aircraft asweapons.

Welch and Logsdon had met while working for NASA. Atthe time, the head of the project was Jim Delatosa at theNASA Application Technical Center in Phoenix.

Welch had been a project team leader under Larry Dillonand Lenea Reid.

The scientists had been given a $12 million grant tostudy advanced brain technology and come up with whatthey termed a “light and sound machine,” which couldmonitor and influence brain activity.

Welch was also team leader for what was called theGlobal Elite Scientists Club. She was a licensed clinical hyp-notherapist at the time.

“This was a subcontract,” Logsdon told AFP. “That wasthe story. In reality, I think it was a cover for the CIA to findpeople like us and launder money.”

Logsdon told AFP that he went to the FBI with his infor-mation about the plot to attack New York but was rebuffed.

Later, he tried to contact the 9-11 Commission, the inde-pendent panel tasked with investigating the Sept. 11 attacks.

In an open letter to the 9-11 Commission, he wrote:For several years I have been trying to get out the truth

I knew about the 9-11 attacks. In August of 2003 I went tothe FBI and offered myself as a witness and met with themseveral times. The purpose for having multiple meetingswas to tell them how they could contact . . . other witness-es to verify my information. After my initial meeting withthe FBI I contacted the other witnesses and informed themthey may be called also and to share with the FBI what Ilearned from my meetings with the other key witnesses.

By my fourth meeting it became very clear that the FBIhad been informed to discard any information about the9-11 attacks, and they had not made any effort to contactthe other witnesses. Since then I have been accumulatingkey documents to verify our story and wish to get them tothe proper media sources. ★

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands—Last year, JimmyWalter spent $3.5 million of his own money onprint advertisements in the United States main-stream media in an effort to bring public atten-tion to the many unanswered questions of the

9-11 terror attacks. This spring, in an effort to try to open anindependent European investigation of the attacks, the cityplanner is sponsoring a tour of the continent and Britainwith a group of researchers and activists who challenge theofficial version.

“The war is forced upon me,” Walter, who designs sus-tainable cities for the future, told an Amsterdam press con-ference as his European tour began on May 18. “Becausethere will be no future if we don’t stop these madmen.”

“To start a European investigation into 9-11,” is what hewants the tour to achieve Walter said. “We want to warn theworld about what really happened on 9-11.”

“If any part of the 9-11 story was not done by 19 Arabswho flunked out of flight school, then the whole story is asham,” he said.

Intellectual freedom is the main reason Walter chose tobegin the tour in Holland’s famous city of canals. Askedwhy he chose Amsterdam, Walter said: “This is whereEurope broke out of the dark ages. The Dutch are intelli-gent, educated and tolerant. While they are skeptical bynature, they will listen to you.”

The group that Walter is taking to seven European citiesincludes 9-11 writers, researchers and survivors. There aretwo teams, which will have different events in Amsterdam,

Berlin, Paris, London, Madrid, Vienna and Manchesterbetween May 20 and June 4.

William Rodriguez, the Puerto Rican porter and “keymaster” of the North Tower, who rescued many people andsurvived the collapse by sheltering under a fire truck, willtour with this writer and Eric Hufschmid, author of PainfulQuestions: An Analysis of the 9-11 Attack.

Walter says Hufschmid’s book and the supplementaryDVD, Painful Deceptions, first opened his eyes about the factsof the attacks and motivated him to dedicate a portion ofhis wealth to bringing this information to the public.

Philip J. Berg (see front page story), a Pennsylvania-based lawyer representing some of the victims of 9-11, andWebster G. Tarpley, historian and author of 9-11: SyntheticTerror, are also on the tour.

Rachel Hughes, a 39-year-old from Brooklyn, who suf-fers from a chronic health condition her doctor says is likeGulf War Syndrome, is also on the tour. Hughes was not inNew York City on 9-11 but volunteered the day after andbrought meals to the workers at “ground zero” for severalweeks afterward.

Hughes told American Free Press that she has only 20 per-cent to 30 percent of her lung capacity left. Inhalation oftiny particles that hovered over the WTC site and lowerManhattan is the most likely cause of her symptoms.

The composition of the fine cloud that hovered over thesite for days was analyzed by Thomas Cahill, a professor atthe University of California at Davis, and found to containdangerously high levels of heavy metals and other knowntoxins.

breathe,” Berg, who represents Hughes, said.“Christie Todd Whitman lied on Sept. 13.”

EPA spokesmen did not return calls fromAFP on this matter.

Asked if the intense heat that persisted atthe WTC site would have produced sub-micron size particles known as nanoparticles, chemical physicist Marion Fulk, formerlywith Livermore National Lab, said, “Yes.”

Fulk, who researches the effects ofnanoparticles on the human cell and biolog-ical systems, has contributed greatly to under-standing how the smallest particles of thetoxic weapons component known as deplet-ed uranium cause the greatest damage tohuman health and lead directly to a host ofsymptoms generally known as Gulf WarSyndrome.

“When things burn,” Fulk said, “that’swhere these fine particles are produced. Thenumerous incredibly hot spots at groundzero would have produced huge amounts oftoxic nanoparticles of asbestos, lead andother heavy metals that lingered in the airover Manhattan and Brooklyn for weeks.”

“These are able to enter the body through the lungs, noseand skin,” Fulk said. “Once inside the body they migratefreely and are able to penetrate into the nucleus of the cellsdue to their incredibly small size.” THE KEY MASTER’S STORY

Rodriguez, who was employed in the twin towers for 20years, worked as a porter in the North Tower for the last 10years before 9-11. He was one of five people who had a mas-ter key for the entire building. Rodriguez had an office inthe first basement level and another on the 33rd floor.

After the building was hit by a plane, Rodriguez rescuedmany trapped people, having refused to leave the buildingas ordered by his superiors.

Rodriguez told AFP about a man he rescued from thefirst basement level. “Explosion! Explosion!” the man saidas Rodriguez found him with his skin peeled off of his arms.

The official explanation of the cause of thisexplosion is that jet fuel fell down elevatorshafts and somehow exploded in the base-ment.

The 9-11 commission interviewed Rod-riguez in a closed session at the FEMA office inNew York City, but none of his testimony hasbeen included in the commission’s report.

“We worked hard for the commission toget subpoena power, and they didn’t use it,”Rodriguez said. “I knew they were lying.”

A huge second explosion occurred secondsafter the plane struck the tower, Rodriguez said. After that there were “many, many explosions,”he said.

When he went to his office on the 33rdfloor next to the freight elevator to get rescueequipment, Rodriguez heard the sound of“heavy equipment” being moved on the floorabove. The 34th floor, however, was a floorthat was “supposed to be empty.”

Rodriguez told AFP he was 100 percent surethat somebody was moving heavy equipmentaround on a floor that had no walls, offices ortenants.

Rodriguez, who lives in Jersey City, has been made a com-monwealth hero in Puerto Rico. But his amazing story, which has been reported in the Spanish-language media, hasnot received equal attention in the English-language press.

The story of the Israeli “movers” who were arrested afterfilming the collapse of the WTC is a “huge” story that hasbeen ignored by the mainstream media, Rodriguez said. Thesergeant who was involved in the arrest of the “movers” atLiberty State Park in New Jersey was “ordered not to talkabout it,” he said.

“They had Arab costumes in the trunk,” he said, “andwere dressed in those clothes when they were filming thecollapse.” ★

Rep. James Moran (D-Va.) said he favors expand-ing trade deals throughout the Western Hemi-sphere as a step toward creating an “AmericanUnion” similar to the European Union. Heexpressed this view in a one-hour interview

with American Free Press on May 18.“If we don’t pass CAFTA [the Central American Free

Trade Agreement], Central America is going to go down”economically, he said. The solution to the problem of ille-gal aliens is to help those countries prosper by more “free”trade deals and taxpayer funds, he said.

“We must help build the economies in their country oforigin” so immigrants would have no motive to enter theUnited States illegally, Moran said. “It is incumbent upon usto help. If not, we can forget about those nations as allies.”

“Do you visualize, through trade deals, establishing an‘American Union’ similar to the European Union through-out the Western Hemisphere?” AFP asked.

“Yes,” Moran responded. The “American Union” shouldso completely integrate the nations of the WesternHemisphere that it should have a “complementary policeforce, ” he said.

Echoing the views of so-called moderates in Congress,Moran saw no First Amendment problems with so-called“hate crimes” laws, which are routinely added as amend-ments to must-pass spending bills and, so far, killed by theHouse in conference.

The effort to make traditionally local crimes—such asmuggings—a federal offense if “hate” is found is no prob-

lem, Moran said.“I can understand the motive behind hate crimes legisla-

tion,” Moran said. “If you go after someone because of hissexual orientation it is more of a crime. But the implemen-tation of hate crimes laws is very difficult. It is a tool theycan use if certain words are used, but it is hard to define

what a ‘hate’ crime is.”People “will become more tolerant” if hate crimes laws

are enacted, but “we must put more effort into keeping itfrom being abused,” he said.

Moran wanted to talk about his fight to keep militaryinstallations in his district—just across the Potomac Riverfrom Washington—from being scaled back. Most congress-men call for reductions in military spending but all fightcuts in their own district.

But Moran had one good point: the Defense Depart-ment wants to move thousands of personnel from thePentagon and other nearby installations 100 miles away tododge terrorist attacks. But many are not being moved intoexisting buildings—they will have to be built—making this“economy” somewhat expensive. He also questioned theefficiency of having so much defense personnel so far fromthe CIA, Justice and Homeland Security departments in the“war on terror.”

Moran predicted his state of Virginia would have twomajor presidential candidates in 2008: Gov. Mark Warner(D) and Sen. George Allen (R). Warner’s appeal is being anelected Democrat in a “red state,” giving rise to hopes ofbreaking the GOP’s lock on the South and Midwest. Allen, son of legendary Redskins coach George Allen, is immense-ly popular.

In the Senate, Warner will not challenge Allen, who is upfor re-election in 2006, because to abandon Allen’s Senate

Spotlight on Congress

Last week I had an opportunity topresent the case against U.S. mem-bership in the World Trade Organ-ization (WTO) at a seminar inWashington. Later this summer Con-

gress will have a similar opportunity to raiseobjections about the WTO when several colleagues and Ibring a resolution to the House floor seeking the wholesalewithdrawal of the United States from the organization.

The WTO by its own admission is not just about trade.According to the WTO web site, liberalizing trade actuallytakes a back seat to its more activist ambitions, such as“development”—a euphemism for wealth-transfers fromrich nations to poor nations.

Likewise, their own web site promises that, “In the WTO,commercial interests do not take priority over environmen-tal protection.” In 1994 the WTO created the Trade andEnvironment Committee to bring “environmental and sus-tainable development issues into the mainstream of WTOwork.”

What does this mean? It would not take much imagina-tion to tie any environmental issue to trade and thus inviteWTO meddling.

What about the Kyoto Accords, the international agree-ment that aims to solve the supposed problem of global

warming? Clearly the Kyoto Accords, to which the UnitedStates has not agreed, will affect world trade. Will this be anopen door for the WTO to act as enforcer toward the UnitedStates and other countries that refuse to sign Kyoto?

Two leading UN observers, Henry Lamb of SovereigntyInternational and Cathie Adams of Texas Eagle Forum, havereported that the WTO is widely recognized as the enforce-ment tool of choice for the Kyoto treaty.TRADE RULES AT STAKE

Even Newt Gingrich, a supporter of American member-ship in the WTO, recognized in 1994 that far more thantrade rules were at stake:

I am just saying that we need to be honest about the factthat we are transferring from the United States at a practicallevel significant authority to a new organization. This is atransformational moment. I would feel better if the peoplewho favor this would just be honest about the scale ofchange. . . . This is not just another trade agreement. This isadopting something which twice, once in the 1940s andonce in the 1950s, the U.S. Congress rejected. I am not evensaying that we should reject it; I, in fact, lean toward it. ButI think we have to be very careful, because it is a very bigtransfer of power.

In reality, the WTO is the third leg of the globalists’ planfor a one-world, centrally-managed economic system. The

intention behind the creation of the WTO was to have athird institution to handle the trade side of internationaleconomic cooperation, joining two institutions created byBretton Woods, the World Bank and the InternationalMonetary Fund.

For the United States to give up any bit of its sovereigntyto these unelected and unaccountable organizations is eco-nomic suicide. International organizations can never “man-age” trade better than it naturally occurs in a true free mar-ket of goods and services.

At best, WTO acts as a meddling middleman, taking acut for unnecessary services provided. At worst, it forces theUnited States to change its domestic laws in ways that seri-ously harm our economy and our sovereignty.

Economist Murray Rothbard said it best: “You don’tneed a treaty to have free trade.”

Governments and quasi-government bodies like the WTOcan only politicize and interfere with the natural flow ofgoods and services across borders. When we cede even a frac-tion of our sovereignty to an organization like the WTO, wecannot hope to become more prosperous or more free. ★

“These are small nations, but they are making big andbrave commitments, and America needs to continue to sup-port them as they walk the road of openness and accounta-bility,” Bush said after meeting presidents from theDominican Republic, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala,Honduras and Nicaragua.

The six presidents from Latin America campaigned forCAFTA in U.S. cities and lobbied lawmakers in an unprece-

dented effort by foreign leaders to win support for legisla-tion pending before Congress. It is as outrageous as if Bushtoured a foreign country to campaign for domestic legisla-tion there.

But CAFTA is on shaky ground in Congress. Many law-makers are concerned that “free” trade deals sent good U.S.jobs overseas and contributed to huge trade deficits.

“Mr. President, the workers of Central America and theDominican Republic do not enjoy the freedoms in theworkplace that permit them to advance the cause of eco-nomic stability in their own families and, importantly, intheir countries,” Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) and three col-leagues wrote Bush immediately following a meeting withthe CAFTA presidents.

Rangel and others have objected to CAFTA because itrequires countries to enforce their own labor laws but failsto explicitly define labor standards. Companies in SouthAmerica are not burdened by minimum wages, safety stan-dards and health insurance benefits. This has proven a hugeeconomic inducement for American firms to head southunder “free” trade deals.

Putting aside 10 years of evidence showing that theNorth American Free Trade Agreement has not helped to

boost standards or wages for workers in Mexico, Bush said:“For the newly emerging democracies of Central America,CAFTA would bring new investment and that means goodjobs and higher labor standards for their workers.”

CAFTA is viewed as a proxy for broader economic inte-gration of the Western Hemisphere. The administration isalso trying to put together trade agreements with Panamaand three Andean nations. These are steps toward the FreeTrade Area of the Americas, which would include the entirehemisphere except Cuba until Fidel Castro is gone. TheFTAA is to evolve into the “American Union” patterned afterthe European Union with the dollar as the common cur-rency. ★

There is a dispute quietly raging among sci-entists as to whether temperatures aroundthe world, on average, are either warming orcooling. For the past decade, hotheads inthe mainstream scientific community, backed by the well-funded environmental

lobby, have been crying that the sky is falling as a resultof global warming. But, in recent years, the number ofcooler heads is growing. It’s only a matter of time beforewe know who is right.

In 2004 the Russians accepted membership in theWorld Trade Organization in return for ratifying theKyoto Protocol despite believing that global warming isan unverified hypothesis and probably a non-problem,according to the Access to Energy newsletter. They stand togain billions of dollars from the sale of CO2 credits. If ittakes effect here, the costs to Americans will be substan-tial.

The chief climatologist of the Russian Academy ofSciences, Yuri Izrael, has estimated that stabilizing theEarth’s climate would cost $18 trillion. In the Feb. 18issue of The Wall Street Journal, it is suggested that Kyotocould cost up to $150 billion yearly.

Rajendra Pachouri, chairman of the UN’s Intergovern-mental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), recently statedthat the atmosphere contains “dangerous levels of CO2,”which must be reduced immediately.

On the other hand, William Ruddiman, the professoremeritus of environmental sciences at the University ofVirginia, claimed in the January 24 issue of The IrishExaminer that, according to his climate model, the worldwould be one-third of the way toward glacial tempera-tures if it weren’t for the prevalence of greenhouse gases.

Climatologist Michael Mann’s computer program, which produced for the IPCC the “hockey stick chart”predicting catastrophic warming, has been accused ofproducing “hockey stick charts” from random data.

Many people do not realize that, in 1975, main-stream climatologists were convinced that our presentinterglacial period, characterized by warm weather, wascoming to an abrupt end around the year 2000. Theywere so sure that they notified heads of state in severalcountries of this forecast.

Furthermore there were reports, by experts in theNational Academy of Science and the CIA, which fullyagreed with the mainstream and even predicted that itwould be too cold to grow wheat in Canada.

Despite the overwhelming evidence, inexplicably apolitical decision in 1977 made funds available for re-search on global warming but not for global cooling.

Dr. Rodger Revelle, one of former Vice President AlGore’s professors, was involved with a National Academyof Science report which forecast global warming.

Considering the high stakes in the Kyoto politicalgame, a review of what inspired the mainstream in 1975to believe that the Earth was not warming, but cooling, would seem to be justified.

Willey Ley’s book The Drifting Continents notes thatthree boulders about 12 miles from the center of Berlin,Germany, triggered investigations that resulted in thediscovery of ice ages. The largest of these was 28 feet high

and 76 feet in circumference. They were sitting on a layerof sand about 300 feet deep, and there were no outcrop-pings of rock nearby. Similar, less impressive boulderswere scattered around northern Germany on top of sanddeposits. Studies in the 19th century determined thattheir composition matched bedrock outcroppings inDenmark.

It was at first theorized that Germany had been cov-ered with a shallow sea and these boulders had been car-ried from Denmark by icebergs broken off from glaciersin that country.

However, by 1841, Swiss scientist Jean Agassiz, whosubsequently became a professor of natural history atHarvard University, was able to prove that glaciersmoved and carried rocks, which scored underlying struc-tures over which they moved.

This was confirmed in 1875, when a Swedish geolo-gist named Torell discovered that limestone deposits inGermany had been scored by glaciers.

Agassiz also found evidence of glacial scraping in rockon both sides of the Canadian border.

By 1880 most geologists accepted the idea that northGermany, Ireland, most of Great Britain and much of

North America had been covered with ice. Before the endof the century, evidence of a least four glacial and inter-glacial periods had been uncovered.

Paleontology, the study of ancient life forms, gavebirth to paleoclimatology, the study of ancient climates, around this time.

About 1945 California professor Dr. Willard Libbybegan using the rate of decay of carbon-l4 to date organ-ic materials. He used wood from tombs of known age tocalibrate his technique. When samples from ancientEuropean bogs associated with the end of the last glacia-tion were tested, they were found to be about 11,000years old.

The glaciation process involves the removal of waterfrom the sea and its subsequent deposit as ice in the arc-tic regions. The fact that there are two oxygen isotopes,O-16 and O-18, provides a means for estimating theprevalence of ice. These isotopes are non-radioactive.

According to the theory, water evaporating from theocean should contain a high proportion of the lighterisotope and therefore the concentration of the heavy iso-tope in the ocean should increase as more and more iceis formed.

The shells of certain small sea creatures contain calci-um carbonate and record the ratio of the two oxygen iso-topes in the ocean water at the time they were formed.Scientists have found that shells of long-dead creatures, obtained from sea-bottom cores, show variations in thisratio, clearly indicating that the Earth has undergonemany glaciations.

Dr. Fred Ward of IBM stated that a rising level of CO2,with a characteristic waveform, had been associated withtransitions to glacial conditions 17 times in the last 17million years.

Is the “hockey stick” representation of the temper-ature behavior of the past 1,000 years dead? Withthe publication of a paper in Nature magazine inearly 2005 by Anders Moberg and colleagues, itmay be all over for the “hockey stick.” The sadsaga of the “hockey stick”(the poster child for

man-caused global warming) may be remembered as alesson in how scientific fanaticism can blind a large partof the scientific community and allow unproven resultsto become mainstream thought.

The “hockey stick” is the once-feared iconof global warming. It was a chart purportingto show annual average temperature of theNorthern Hemisphere for the past 1,000years, derived from the information that isstored in things such as tree rings, coralbanding records and sediment cores.

It was called the “hockey stick” becauseits long horizontal “hockey stick handle”corresponds to 900 years (from A.D. 1000to 1900) of seemingly little temperaturevariation (for some reason, the “Little IceAge” was not reflected in the chart), and its“hockey stick blade” represents 100 years(1900 to 1999) of rapid temperature rise.

Where was the Little Ice Age—a well-doc-umented cold period lasting from about the14th to the 19th century? And where was theMedieval Warm Period—a relatively mildera extending from about the 11th to the13th century?

The “hockey stick” graphic gave theimpression that, left to its own devices, nature shows very little temperature varia-tion, but that during the past century, humans have come along with their indus-tries and thrown the ecosystem out of kilter.

Rarely in science are new paradigms so promptly anduncritically embraced as was the “hockey stick” chart.Instead, new ideas are typically met with resistance andsneers, as the mainstream of the scientific community isslow to let go of the conventional wisdom.

In this case, however, members of the mainstreamoften united to rebuke each critic of the “hockey stick,”often resorting to ad hominem attacks.

Then Steven McIntyre and Ross McKitrick put anoth-er nail in the coffin of the “hockey stick” when they triedand failed to reproduce the “hockey stick” using the dataand procedures described by Mann and colleagues intheir 1998 Nature publication.

For years they worked through countless roadblockserected by the “hockey stick’s” original creators, and doc-umenting an embarrassing number of errors in the orig-inal procedure including inaccurate data descriptions, insufficient methodological details, data compilationerrors, data handling mistakes, and questionable statisti-cal techniques.

While no individual mistake was likely sufficient inand of itself to throw into question the “hockey stick,”taken together, the list of errors indicates a lack of rigorand attention to detail by the “hockey stick’s” creators, namely Mann, Raymond Bradley and Malcolm Hughes, who published their findings in a paper in the journalGeophysical Research Letters in 1999. ★

the world’s weather has experienced many changes overits long history. There is evidence that glacial periods ofabout 90,000 years have been followed by interglacialperiods, never longer than 12,500 years, for the last 20million years.

A few years ago, a study of a Chinese peat bog dis-closed a 2,000-year secular down trend. The peak tem-perature of the last cycle occurred around A.D. 1000, cor-responding to the “Golden Age of Northern Europe.”

The low, about 1700 A.D., corresponded to the “LittleIce Age.” Since 1700 A.D. the Earth has been warming.

However, these historical periods are not recognizedby the IPCC.

Many astrophysicists believe that variations in theactivity of the Sun and the orbit of the Earth around theSun continue to be major influences on the Earth’sweather as they have been for untold eons.

Another source of heat that can influence the Earth’sweather is believed to be internal radioactivity.Undoubtedly this has diminished over the billions ofyears that the Earth has existed, but intermittent volca-noes such as Mount Saint Helens in this country arereminders of its existence.

When Karakatoa blew up in 1883, it produced a yearwithout summer in the United States, massive localdestruction and a deadly tsunami akin to the December

2004 event. The blanket of volcanic ash that it blew intothe upper atmosphere cut down on the amount of sun-light that reached the Earth’s surface.

Some scientists believe buildup of ice in the polarregions puts excessive pressure on the Earth’s mantle, squeezing the underlying liquid magma and fosteringearthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Maybe this is whyKarakatoa’s volcanic cone is rebuilding, as is MountSaint Helens—perhaps for repeat performances.

Over 90 percent of the world’s ice is located inAntarctica. Most of it is in a cap over the continent, which is about one and a half times as large as theUnited States. Some is in sea ice that surrounds it. About5 percent is in Greenland. Again most is in an icecap cov-ering most of the land and some in sea ice. Ice also floatson the ocean that covers the north polar region.

After 300 years of global warming, and probably at thepeak temperatures for this weather cycle, it is reasonableto expect some melting. Satellite photographs indicatethat the ice cover around Greenland has been reduced. Also the Swiss are reporting glaciers melting in ski areas.

However, the fact that U.S. aircraft, ditched onGreenland, were covered with 250 feet of ice after 50years of storage is significant. Also significant is a gov-ernment report that icebreakers had to deal with 80miles of sea ice to reach McMurdo station recently—

instead of the usual 10 miles. Extensive research in Antarctica indicates that ice is

accumulating there. Radar measurements disclosed thatan estimated 26.8 billion tons of ice are deposited year-ly on the cap according to an article in Science in 2002.

In 2004 the science magazine, Geothermal Letters, car-ried a report that sea ice has been increasing since 1979.The peninsula has warmed recently, due to changes inwind patterns bringing in more warm air from the sur-rounding sea. However, the interior of the continent hasbeen cooling.

In 1999, after studying 420,000 years of climate his-tory, renowned climatologist J.R. Petit reported that theEarth was warmer during the last four interglacial peri-ods than it is in this one. Other reports indicate that lessice has melted in this interglacial period than in the lastone.

In the light of these facts, the opinion of Dr. RichardLindzen, a climatologist at MIT, is of interest. Lindzensaid: “the catastrophic consequences of global warming,if it should occur, are almost completely speculative.”Perhaps they can also be considered to be unlikely. ★

The Fallacy of the‘Hockey Stick’

Temperature CurveThe author of the famous “hockey stick” curve charton global warming, M.E. Mann, claimed that “temper-atures in the latter half of the 20th Century wereunprecedented,” and that the 1990s was “likely thewarmest decade.” The UN adopted the infamous“hockey stick” chart, calling 1998 the “warmest year”of the millennium. Scientists, however, have disputedthis chart. Recently a “corrected” curve was formulat-ed, which was derived from the same data set usedby Mann, showing 20th Century temperatures to becolder than those of the 15th Century.

First there was Hugo Chavez, the left-wing pop-ulist, pro-Cuban leader of oil-rich Venezuelawho became a target of the Bush administra-tion. Now some are asking if the leader ofEcuador, another petroleum-rich nation, couldbe next on the White House’s list.

The focus on Ecuador began last month with the over-throw of President Lucio Gutierrez, a friend of the WhiteHouse. Gutierrez was quickly replaced with his vice presi-dent, Alfredo Palacio, a cardiologist by profession.

Known as a conservative, Palacio recently shockedWashington, the World Bank, the IMF and Ecuadorian oiloligarchs based in the United States, by installing a leftward-leaning economics minister, Rafael Corea, and warning thata fixed portion of the country’s oil revenues would bediverted from paying international debts to create programsto benefit people there.

Corea quickly made it clear that he was unhappy withprevious free trade pacts with the United States and with thedollar as his country’s currency. He hinted that future tradetalks with the United States would not necessarily take theroute chosen by the deposed president, Gutierrez.

Corea also expressed concern about the debt repaymentdeals the former president and others before him had nego-tiated with the IMF.

Those statements sent shudders through the corridors ofpower in Washington and in the offices of the internationalbankers who traditionally hold many countries to ransomthrough scheduled debt repayments and quarterly econom-ic reviews.

At the White House, Dick Cheney who has managed theBush administration’s energy policy, was said to be con-

cerned that the United States was about to have anotherVenezuela on its hands—another Chavez on its doorstep.

Chavez has not only angered the United States but hasbecome the poster boy for anti-U.S. feeling in Latin Americaby using his country’s power as the world’s fifth-largest oilproducer to thumb his nose at Washington. Chavez has alsodrawn other countries into a Marxist-aligned economic pactwhile at the same time negotiating oil and other deals withRussia, China and France. Chavez has also made no secretof his admiration for Fidel Castro.

In Ecuador, Palacio detected panic in the internationalmarkets and moved quickly to allay fears, especially inWashington, by assuring everyone that Ecuador would notdefault on its debts.

Nonetheless, change is likely in a country that sits onmassive oil and gas reserves while it pays out a huge per-centage of its oil revenues to banks.

Quite simply, Ecuador is owned not by Ecuadorians butby others, including oil oligarchs who fled the country yearsago, and by the IMF and World Bank. Last but not least, theInter-American Development Bank has its own economicstranglehold on Ecuador.

Recently the British Guardian newspaper journalist, GregPalast, armed with a camera and World Bank documents, visited the new Ecuadorian president.

Palast wrote that he wanted to tell the Ecuadorian peo-ple they were rich but the World Bank documents in hispossession confirmed that the country was mortgaged tothe hilt with having to pay 70 percent of its oil revenues toforeign bondholders.

Off camera, in the presidential palace, when Palast con-fronted Palacio with the World Bank documents and its listof massive bond holdings, Palacio remarked: “We don’tknow who these guys are, and that’s terrible.”

In other words, the new president had no clue at to theidentities of those who owned 70 percent of the moneyearned on key natural resources leaving the country.

According to Palast, the men who own Ecuador areknown, and he had their identities confirmed by a UN offi-cial: “A UN official told me the bonds are held by the oldoligarchs who stripped the nation’s banks of their cash andreplanted themselves and their cash in Miami; and nowthey hold the nation ransom by manipulating its debt secu-rities. And of course, there’s the millions Ecuadorians haveto pay to a U.S. power company—a payment that wasimposed by the USA only after the company hired HenryKissinger.”

Like many Latin American countries before it, Ecuador isbeing held in the clutches of greedy bankers, speculators andorganizations who have exploited the nation’s resources andburdened the people with billions, providing the IMF, WorldBank and other financial interests with too much controlover the country’s political and economic future.

In 1999, a sharp decline in petroleum prices, which hadfollowed on the heels of a series of natural disasters, sent thecountry into a fiscal tailspin. The banking system suffered acollapse, and before the year was over the governmentdefaulted on repayments of external debts. That led to a 70percent decrease in the sucre, Ecuador’s currency, and wasfollowed in 2000 by dollarization.

Since the beginning of the 1990s, Ecuador has been likea political changing room, with an electorate constantly dis-illusioned by the failure of nine national leaders to improveliving standards. Corruption has been rampant, and toomuch control has been exercised by bondholders—bankersand international investors capable of manipulating debt asa way of influencing the politics and economics of thenation.

The new president has said that he is “no politician,”and is therefore independent. Palacio has no party alle-giances and claims to be a “simple doctor” committed topopulist reforms, social improvement and changing hiscountry’s ties to international lending bodies.

Palacio has promised a referendum on a new constitu-tion in an effort to generate stability among conflictingpolitical parties and to create a new Supreme Court with abody of laws that will give his country proper internationalrecognition.

With a population eager for real change allied to a needto eradicate corruption, while changing arrangements withinternational financial scavengers, success for Palacio andhis fellow countrymen cannot be assured.

Any country with large energy resources is a target for amultitude of interests. There is also the matter of the fast-changing political tapestry in Latin America, where five left-wing governments have publicly stated that they are tired ofglobalization and, like Venezuela, are not pro-Washington.

Even the most populous country, Brazil, has decided thatChina is a better trading and financial partner than theUnited States.

Washington will not be keen to see Palacio steer a con-servative-populist political, social and economic course.

If he pursues a Chavez strategy, he will invite the wrathof Cheney and Bush. And he must know that, while effortsby the CIA to oust Chavez have failed, he may not be asresilient as the Venezuelan leader, who has ultimate controlof his military. ★

George W. Bush and his gangof neo-con warmongers havedestroyed America’s reputa-tion. It is likely to staydestroyed, because at this

point the only way to restore America’s rep-utation would be to impeach and convictPresident Bush for intentionally deceiving Congress andthe American people in order to start a war of aggressionagainst a country that posed no threat to the UnitedStates.

America can redeem itself only by holding Bushaccountable.

As intent as Republicans were to impeach PresidentClinton for lying about a sexual affair, they have a blindeye for President Bush’s far more serious lies. PRESIDENT’S LIES

Bush’s lies have caused the deaths of tens of thou-sands of people, injured and maimed tens of thousandsmore, devastated a country, destroyed America’s reputa-tion, caused 1 billion Muslims to hate America, ruinedour alliances with Europe, created a police state at homeand squandered $300 billion and counting.

America’s reputation is so damaged that not even ourpuppets can stand the heat. Anti-American riots, whichhave left Afghan cities and towns in flames and hospitalsoverflowing with casualties, have forced Bush’s Afghanpuppet, “President” Hamid Karzai, to assert his inde-pendence from his U.S. overlords.

In a belated act of sovereignty, Karzai asserted author-ity over heavy-handed U.S. troops whose brutal and stu-

pid ways sparked the devastating riots. Karzai demanded control of U.S. military activities in

Afghanistan and called for the return of the Afghandetainees who are being held at the U.S. prison inGuantanamo Bay in Cuba.

Abundant evidence now exists in the public domainto convict Bush of the crime of the century.

A secret British government memo (dated July 23,2002) reports that Bush wanted “to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction ofterrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts werebeing fixed around the policy. . . . But the case was thin.Saddam was not threatening his neighbors, and hisWMD capability was less than that of Libya, North Koreaor Iran. . . . The [UK] attorney-general said that the desirefor regime change was not a legal base for militaryaction. There were three possible legal bases: self-de-fense, humanitarian intervention, or UNSC authoriza-tion. The first and second could not be the base in thiscase. Relying on UNSCR 1205 of three years ago wouldbe difficult.”

This memo is the mother of all smoking guns. Why isn’t Bush in the dock? Has American democracy failed at home? ★

There are many displays and tributes to Gen.William C. Westmoreland, for whom weshould instead have established a wall ofshame. It could signify those who would bewith us today had it not been for West-moreland. This venerated general knowingly

aided and abetted our enemy in the war against commu-nism in Vietnam and admitted that fact in his own pub-lished testimony: A Soldier Reports.

If we are so unwise as to ignore these facts of the Vietnamera, we will but set ourselves up for future recurrences of thesame.

With this in mind, one has to ponder, “who is calling theshots in Iraq and Afghanistan?” Are the generals and admi-rals of today, at the expense of KIAs, WIAs and MIAs acqui-escing to the dictates of a circle of men dedicated to main-taining a conflict of sufficient depth to satisfy the lusts of thepolitical-military-industrial-banking complex?

On July 24, 2003, I spoke on the telephone with Gen.Tommy Franks’s aide, Lt. Col. Chris Goedeke, expressing myadmiration of Franks and my concern that he did not havesufficient troops in his command in Iraq to secure the pop-ulation centers after American soldiers had taken the area.

I was told unequivocally that Franks had only receivedhalf of the numbers of forces he asked for to properly con-duct the war. I was also informed that Franks had unwill-ingly bent to the dictates of Secretary of Defense DonaldRumsfeld, and that Franks had knowingly gone to war withinsufficient men and women.

One insider, who wishes to remain anonymous, advisedme that the Pentagon staff who developed the invasion sce-nario for Rumsfeld were primarily personnel without com-bat experience.

Westmoreland, as commander of all American forces inSouth Vietnam from June 1964 through March 1968, aidedand abetted the enemy by permitting them safe havensinside the Cambodian territory adjacent to South Vietnam. He also permitted that same enemy the unrestricted use ofthe Mekong River as a protected waterway to transport warmateriel through South Vietnam to their sanctuaries inCambodia.

It seemed obvious to me, after putting all of the factstogether, that Westmoreland considered his own position, rank and place in history more important to him than thelives of American and Vietnamese warriors and SouthVietnamese civilians, or he would have demanded an end toPresident Lyndon Johnson’s provision of safe havens and

protected supply routes to the enemy.Lacking positive action by the president, Westmoreland

should have resigned publicly, informing the American peo-ple that he was leaving the service not wanting to be a partof the sham that was Vietnam, the sham that supported theenemy while subjecting our forces and our allies, along withthe civilian population, to death and destruction.

Corroborated proof of my direct knowledge ofWestmoreland’s acts to encourage and assist the enemy is

contained in my book Expendable Elite—One Soldier’sJourney Into Covert Warfare.

In Westmoreland’s book A Soldier Reports, he states rathermatter-of-factly and very clearly on page 218: “The enemy’sobvious use of Cambodia as a sanctuary and refusal ofWashington authorities to allow me to do anything about itwas frustrating.”

He went on to write, on page 219, of the proof of majorshipments of arms and other supplies “reaching the VC viainternational shipping passing through South Vietnam upthe Mekong. . . .”

It may have been frustrating to Westmoreland, but hislack of action to deny the enemy sanctuaries and a protect-

ed supply route was indeed deadly to many tens of thou-sands of Americans who depended on him for leadership.

Strangely enough, Westmoreland writes at the beginningof chapter 15, titled “Reflections on Command,” of havinga quotation of Napoleon Bonaparte under a panel on hisdesk, which states, “A commander-in-chief cannot take asan excuse for his mistakes in warfare an order by his sover-eign or his minister, when the person giving the order isabsent from the field of operations and is imperfectly awareor wholly unaware of the latest state of affairs. It follows thatany commander-in-chief who undertakes to carry out a planwhich he considers defective is at fault; he must put forwardhis reasons, insist on the plan being changed, and finallytender his resignation rather than be the instrument of hisarmy’s downfall.”

In 1983, Presidio Press published Lt. Col. Charles M.Simpson’s book, Inside the Green Berets, which included theaccount of how Lt. Col. Dick Ruble, a member ofWestmoreland’s intelligence staff, had, without the knowl-edge of the Special Forces Group commander, denied themaccess to intelligence as retribution for Special Forces deny-ing non-airborne personnel with the Military AssistanceCommand Vietnam, who were to be disguised as GreenBerets, access to Special Forces camps.

The Special Forces Group had been excluded purposelyfrom their distribution list and would include intelligencegathered by CIA resources. Many of those resources werehighly classified and compartmentalized, according to mysource.

My best friend, Master Sgt. Gerard V. Parmentier, hisname now engraved on the Vietnam Memorial Wall inWashington, was killed in action his fifth time in combat inthe Southeast Asian war theater.

Parmentier, a fellow Green Beret, and a number of SouthVietnamese irregulars were mortally wounded in battle byViet Cong insurgents on Aug. 17, 1967 near Dak To, SouthVietnam. They were also unsuspecting victims of a powerstruggle between Westmoreland’s headquarters and theSpecial Forces Group commander.

Parmentier’s son, Albert, a Green Beret himself, was serv-ing in a neighboring Special Forces camp when he got wordthat his father had been killed. After learning details of thebattle and its aftermath from his father’s commanding offi-cer, Albert accompanied his father’s body back to the UnitedStates, where he was interred with military honors, includ-ing a Special Forces color guard, at Rosecrans NationalCemetery in San Diego.

After the funeral I spoke with Albert, and he confirmedwhat I’d suspected, having learned from his father’s com-manding officer that Parmentier’s unit had suffered heavycasualties, with most due to faulty or withheld intelligence. The enemy force that killed Parmentier was many times thestrength that had been gleaned from available intelligence.

That fact, in and of itself, was not uncommon in war, particularly in a counterinsurgency situation. What wasunusual and unforgivable, in my judgment, was the fact thatthe enemy order of battle was known but withheld fromSpecial Forces.

Hard to believe? Yes. I would rather it had been a lie. ButAlbert said he was personally told this by Parmentier’s com-mander before Albert left Vietnam to escort his father’sbody back to the United States. ★

How dumb can people be?? When billions of peopleflush their toilets, do they think this diseased water goes to themoon?? It goes into the ground water, into an aquifer and endsup at your faucet! That’s why drinking even “pure” bottled water

is like playing Russian Roulette. Don’t be fooled by lab tests!! State ofCalifornia: “We know you can find disease markers in water!! We can’t andno lab knows how to do it!” Our water kills bad bacteria, but not good bac-teria (see below)!! That’s why you need no chemicals in a hot tub. The timercycles the water through a filter to remove natural algae. Would you drink orsoak in water if it had chemicals in it strong enough to kill algae??

Expand the human life span: Unlike any other water, under a microscopedoctors can see an immediate change in the red blood cells of a cancer patient(your blood is 94% water)! Instead of being distorted or clumped together(like you are ready for a heart attack), the red blood cells turn nice and roundincluding plenty of movement needed to clear your arteries (letters on file)!A nurse called and said: “That’s why we have your machine! We can see animmediate change in the red blood cells! It’s amazing!!” Since we are engi-neers, not doctors, we will send you medical reports right out of the hospi-tal!! We challenge any other company to do that!! They can’t We’ve weak-ened the bonds. . . . Our hydrogen bond angle is 114° which is a function ofthe ability of water to pass through a membrane and into the cells!!

Prostate Cancer: 90% of all men will end up with a swollen prostate. Thirtyyears ago, after designing a water distiller that also produces energized tapwater, we received thousands of calls saying that before they bought ourmachine they developed prostate cancer because they couldn’t urinate regu-lar water, especially ordinary distilled (the hydrogen bond angle is only 101°. . . it’s dead), but they had no trouble with ours. We wondered why! Althoughour customers include some of the top scientists and engineers in the world,it was a UCLA doctor that had the medical and scientific equipment availableto help us find the answer!! We had weakened the bonds, causing the hydro-gen bond angle to increase to 114° with fantastic implications!!

Lou Gehrig’s Disease: They say it’s incurable and yet here’s a typical letteron file: “I was told I was incurable. When I received your machine they werespoon feeding me because my fingers were frozen solid and I certainly could-n’t write anything! Now, I am writing you this letter to show you I can movemy fingers!”

Diabetes: A man in Texas said: “They were going to chop off my foot!” Heput his foot in a garbage bag filled with our water, tied it around his leg andthe skin turned rosy pink! We have reports on practically any subject with nodownside . . . it’s only water!

Municipal Waste Lagoon: The municipality told the neighbors that it was“untreatable.” They would have to live with the horrible smell. A water treat-ment company: “After adding 1,000 gallons of energized tap water from yourmachine, the smell was virtually gone in 24 hours! That’s amazing!” also, itkills bad bacteria but not good bacteria . . . great for septic systems, no chem-icals or bad disease markers from human waste that find their way into theground water every time a toilet is flushed! They end up at your faucet or in“pure” bottled water (expiration date)! Purification doesn’t remove them (likethe CEA or PSA in your blood)!!

You are drinking somebody else’s waste right now! Wells eventually gobad and people wonder where their problems come from because theybelieve water purifier and bottled water dealers! Regardless of what they tellyou, ask for the medical reports we send out . . . they can’t give them to you!Below is the gatehouse to the $20-million-dollar Crystal Mountain ResearchCenter, a 365-acre estate high atop Crystal Mountain overlooking theDelaware River. With over 100,000 users, scientists are conducting furtherresearch into the amazing properties of this water!

IT’S IN THE WATER!!ANY HOSPITAL CAN PROVE IT!

PURIFIERS/DISTILLERS DON’T REMOVE DISEASE MARKERS THAT ARE FLUSHED INTO THE GROUND WATEREVERY TIME SOMEBODY FLUSHES THE COMMODE. THAT’S WHY, UNDER A MICROSCOPE (DARK FIELD),DISEASE MARKERS EVEN IN THE PUREST WATER PREVENT THE RED BLOOD CELLS FROM RETURNING

TO NORMAL WHILE THE WATER FROM OUR HOME ELECTRON MACHINES CAUSES AN IMMEDIATE CHANGE!

War in Iraq has divertedAmerica from solvingreal problems at home

Well, here we are, two yearsout—as they say in Washing-ton—from “mission accom-plished,” the president’snow-famous speech during

the photo opportunity on an American carrier. The American death toll in Iraq is now

around 1,621 and the wounded exceed 10,000. The cost isabout $300 billion. Somewhere between 140,000 and150,000 Americans remain in Iraq. A third interim govern-ment has been partially formed after three months of wran-gling. The insurgency is still going strong. Iraq is now anexcellent training ground for terrorists.

All of the reasons cited for going to war have been provenfalse. There were no weapons of mass destruction. Therewere no ties between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaida. TheIraqis had nothing to do with the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Has it been worth it? I don’t think so. The number of actsof terrorism has gone up, not down, which is no doubt whythe Bush administration has decided to discontinue theannual reporting of such acts. Facts are nasty little buggersthat play havoc with political rhetoric. It’s best to keep themunder wraps.

Iraq was more stable under Saddam than it is today, andhis wobbly regime never was a threat to the United States, much less an imminent danger. The Pentagon has finallyadmitted that the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have putsuch a strain on the U.S. military that any future actions willbe longer, with higher casualties and higher collateral dam-age (that’s the killing of innocent civilians).

Iran and North Korea, well aware of the limits of Amer-

ican military power, are thumbing their noses at us, and thepresident’s “my way or the highway” approach to diploma-cy has yielded nothing but a loss of American prestige.

In the meantime, the president is proposing the wrongsolution to the wrong problem while he ignores the realproblems: skyrocketing costs of medical care; the skyrocket-ing U.S. budget deficit; the skyrocketing U.S. trade deficit;illegal immigration; poor relations with the one countrythat could destroy us, Russia; a looming energy crisis; the

dismantling of environmental protections; the bleeding ofAmerican jobs to overseas cheap labor; excessive secrecy andgovernment propaganda; the weakness of the Americandollar; the decline of education; and the usual corruption.

I think we are adrift in a sea of troubles, and our captain, like the infamous fictional Captain Queeg, is more con-cerned about who ate the strawberries than saving the ship.If you doubt that, take this little test. The next time the pres-ident holds a press conference or makes a speech, turn offthe sound and study his face. I’m not saying he isn’t there. It’s we who are not there in whatever world he is occupying.

Yes, he can certainly simulate congeniality, and yes, hehas some of the best mind-gamers in the world writing hisspeeches and planning his political strategy, but is he gen-uinely interested in solving the problems facing theAmerican people and the nation? I don’t think so.

The job of president ages most men, but Bush seems ashealthy and content as a Georgia mule in a lush pasture. He’s never admitted making a mistake. He has never heldeven one soul accountable for the intelligence failures orbotching the Iraqi occupation. So far as he is concerned,he’s the perfect man in the perfect job in a perfect world, justlike the television commercial. In the meantime, the rest ofus are stuck with going to Walgreens.

I would feel better if he would just occasionally lookworried. Unfortunately, he’s accomplished all he wanted toaccomplish. He’s won two elections, he’s cut taxes for hisrich friends, and he toppled Saddam Hussein.

I don’t know why he had such a grudge against oldSaddam, but it’s clear from books written by insiders that hewas planning to go to war against Iraq almost from the dayhe took office. He seems to be the most self-satisfied presi-dent in history.

Well, we’ll just have to follow the advice they give drunksand accept what can’t be changed. He’s our captain, andwe’re just the crew. Let’s hope we can avoid the rocks andshoals on the way to 2008. ★

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED? Several years ago“Boy George” decided to “play army,” dress up in aflight suit and announce that the war in Iraq wasover. It was far from over and, while America hasbecome distracted by the Iraq situation, things hereat home—and American credibility abroad—havedeteriorated badly.

PLACING THE BLAMEThe soldiers in the prison abuse case in Iraq

are getting the blame and the punishment. Theofficers, who watched the photo sessions arefound almost blameless. And the ones in theupper echelons of command, who looked theother way, are found wholly innocent.

One administration lawyer caused the dam-aging international scandal by finagling to cir-cumvent the Geneva Conventions, declaring thatprisoners of war are not prisoners of war. Thepresident rewarded this lawyer by naming himattorney general. This is the real scandal.

SOCIAL SECURITY JUST FINEPresident Bush is calling for Social Security

reform under the guise of choice. He supposedlysupports choice in education, but I don’t see anyeffort being expended to make that program areality.

Social Security may not be perfect, but every-one who lives long enough, collects. But no suchluck for the private education system.

Given this situation under which three gen-erations of my family were unfairly taxed, I haveno qualms about receiving Social Securitychecks. And I hope to live to be 100.

JESUS IS FIRSTI have a sensible solution to the problem

brought up in “Jesus to be kicked off calendars”(“News You May Have Missed,” May 9, 2005). Itis easy to turn the tables on these anti-Christs.Instead of BCE meaning “Before the CommonEra” it should mean “Before the Christian Era.”Instead of CE meaning “Common Era,” itshould be called “Christian Era.”

This emphasizes Christ, and again keeps Hisbirth as the dividing line of the epochs.

STOP WARPerhaps the institution of the draft would

put a stop to the expanding war in Iraq andAfghanistan.

Volunteer enlistments today do not disturbthe parents of most Americans because theirsons and daughters are not on the firing line. However, were their children drafted their atti-tude toward war would change overnight.

There would be a rush to stop the wars.Congress would be forced to act and so wouldthe president.

May be that is why a draft has not been insti-tuted. Our leaders know they can avoid voterflak by using only volunteer enlistments.

TIMID PRESS CORPSPresident Bush’s recent TV press conference

was small taters. Those pin heads in theWashington press corps did not ask any ques-tions about the Mexican border situation. Doesthe Establishment news media think theAmerican people are brain dead? Not this turkey.Sorry to say the American folks did not havemuch choice in the past presidential election.

I do enjoy my weekly AFP and read it fromcover to cover in one sitting. Keep up the goodwork.

FIGHT TO WINI am no proponent of any U.S. war of aggres-

sion such as the war in Iraq. Still, I understandthe rationale for dropping atomic bombs onJapan in WWII to break Japanese morale anddiscourage them from engaging in guerrilla war-fare against American forces.

Nuclear weaponry should have been used inIraq to begin with, thus sparing American fight-ing men and women from a guerrilla war thatnow rages out of control. It is clear the pip-squeak “shock and awe” invasion campaignfailed to do the job of breaking Iraqi will to fight.

If wars of aggression are fought, winningthem by overwhelming destructive force is theonly logical course of action. Demoralized peo-ple do not tend to fight back.

Perhaps the war in Iraq has cursed the UnitedStates as an aggressor and an inevitable failure, because of half-hearted Pentagon planning thatchose not to use weapons that would bringabout decisive victory.

FACT OR FICTIONI read the article in The New American, titled

“9-11 Conspiracy Fact & Fiction” by William F.Jasper, which AFP reported on in the May 16issue. I certainly didn’t get the slant AFP pickedup on.

In eight pages of discussion Jasper men-tioned the 9-11 hatchet job in Popular Mechanicsin only four paragraphs. Most of the article cen-tered around David von Kleist and Gen. BenPartin (U.S.A.F. ret.).

Jasper didn’t mention the relationship ofBenjamin Chertoff to our Homeland Securitysecretary. He didn’t mention Chertoff at all. Hedid say “The magazine [Popular Mechanics]assembled an impressive line up of more than

Did They Really Say That?TRUE CONSERVATISM IS DEAD. “The conservative movement has passed into history,” PatBuchanan recently told The Washington Times in an interview.“It doesn’t exist anymore as a unifying force. . . . GLOBALISM AND TRADEIt is an unthinkable crime that the economy

of the most wealthy nation on Earth must relyon foreign oil and slave labor to produce most ofour food and a great deal of consumer goods.

Virtually all policies related to trade are forthe benefit of the multinational corporationsand the financial elites, so that these interestscan plunder natural resources like oil, coal, wood and water.

The United States has signed away its sover-eignty by joining the World Trade Organizationand NAFTA. Congress must remove this nationfrom the WTO and other free trade pacts so wecan negotiate unilaterally or bilaterally as ourFounding Fathers intended.

National ID Raises Serious Privacy IssuesTHE MAY 16 ISSUE OF AFP CONTAINED an article entitled, “Bye, Bye Billions,” which was

very informative and did a good job of describing the unnecessary emergency spending bill, except for one exception. Halfway through the article—in a paragraph starting with “On a goodnote, the legislation includes key immigration issues”—the article was trying to imply that theReal ID Act, which was recently passed, was a “good thing.”

Either the author of this article is not well informed as to the particulars of the Real ID Act,or, mistakenly believes that the potential loss of liberty due to government intervention is agood thing.

On the surface, the Real ID Act does sound like a good thing. It requires persons to provecitizenship in order to obtain a drivers license. However, the act goes much further than that, which is where it ceases to be a “good thing.”

What it does is give entirely too much authority to the secretary of homeland security, whois not even elected. Since the new de facto national ID card will have certain basic requirementsof uniformity, and machine readable technology; and the secretary is authorized, at his discre-tion, to add any other “security measures” he deems fit, the door is wide open to tyranny.

At his discretion, the secretary can include such sensitive data as biometrics, or other per-sonal data he thinks the government needs to know.

The act also stipulates that this data can be shared with Mexico and Canada. When I wrote my legislators of my opposition to this act, I was told not to worry, that

Congress would monitor the authorities to see that they didn’t abuse their power. I do not want the government to be able to develop a centralized database with all of the

personal information it thinks it needs on me, and I do not trust the government to police itselfeither.

Therefore, I take issue with the Real ID Act being referred to as a “good note.” The fact that this illegal bill was attached to the emergency spending bill in the first place

indicates our legislators probably knew it wasn’t popular and slipped it through without debate.Of course, the “major media outlets” never printed a word of its passage either, so the majorityof the populace is still blissfully unaware.

WHAT’S THE TRUTH? Republican demonstrators protested Newsweek in front ofthe magazine’s parent company, The Washington Post, in Washington, May 18.Newsweek reported in a recent edition that the Koran had been desecrated at theGuantanamo Bay concentration camp during interrogations. Newsweek eventuallyretracted the story, saying their unnamed source could not confirm the facts. Atleast 16 people were killed in Afghanistan during demonstrations sparked by thestory, which, although retracted, has not been proven false, either. If the storyproves to be true, Newsweek should be commended for publishing a highly con-troversial story of real importance.
