Freda Clark, RCHS Counselor Student Helping an African Village
I had the honor of speaking at the West Sacramento Rotary Luncheon in regards to helping students at River City High help others internationally that are in need. As one of the advisers for the Black Student Union Club at River City High, I assisted the students with a “school supplies drive” to send to a small village in Nanyuki, Kenya Africa. I went on a mission trip in 2006 and never forgot this village. Over 600 people with no water system, electricity, no cars, no jobs, no school supplies, nothing to write on or with, and limited food. They literally praise God daily like a job, for what God has done for them and what he has in store for them. Over the years River City High has sent teachers old shoes, pencils, gently used tennis rackets and tennis balls from the RCHS tennis coach, pens, work sheets and over 100 clipboards. I used my own money over the years. When it became rough for me financially, I reached out to the West Sacramento Rotary which contributed $450 to ship off the remaining items. Anna Kelly, who is over this particular supply drive, has been very instrumental with getting students to humble themselves and help others in need. She didn’t struggle with getting the supplies, because the students at River City High are some of the most giving and caring students.
