SEPTEMBER 6, 2013 Weekly Newsletter of South Charlotte Middle School Parents: I would like to remind you that our curriculum nights will be held next Tuesday and Thursday, September 10 th and 12 th . Sixth grade parents, we will host your curriculum night on the 10 th and seventh/eighth grade parents, we will host your curriculum night on September 12 th . Each evening we will begin promptly at 6:00PM. There will be an opening informational session in our cafetorium to begin the evening followed by presentations by our classroom teachers in their classrooms. We look so forward to seeing you and sharing with you what your students are doing in class and what they can expect in the future. It has been great seeing many of you in the car line before and after school. Thank you for your support as we evaluate best practices for ensuring safety of your children. All of you have been so cooperative and I appreciate that very much. Our school is located in a very busy area; therefore, outside traffic is excessive; thus, we want to make our operational practices as good as possible. We do have many cars parked along side streets and in other places, please know that South Charlotte cannot control areas/roads that are not ours. Our resource officer monitors this and ensures parents do not parking in NO PARKING areas. What we can do, however, is direct those students walking from school in the best way possible. If your child is walking across the street from school, we will require them to go to the crosswalk where there is a crossing guard located. I would like to ask also that as you approach the school to turn in, please drive with caution. Again, thank you for helping me with this. I really want to make the car line as painless as possible given our location and entrance/exit design. I would like to thank Carolyn Blalock (parent) and Ms. Kimberly Susen (teacher) for working with our students in the Cross Country Club. For the first day of training yesterday, we had over sixty students participate. The great thing about club sports is that ALL students can participate, sixth grade included. We want all of our students to practice healthy lifestyles and adding club sports can help with doing this. Thank you again, Mrs. Blalock, for your time and efforts. Parents, we are focusing on the word RESPECT this year as a school. I have challenged staff to show respect for themselves, each other, students and parents at all times. We are challenging our students to do the same. I am committed to always showing respect to our entire community regardless of situation. I ask that you reiterate this to your children at home. Respect has a lot of definitions. Some of the students have asked me to define it. I did not consult Webster’s or dictionary.com when asked this at various times; however, I have simply stated to the students: If you respect others, you will treat others as you would like to be treated. If we do this, this year, South Charlotte will be the epitome of a great place to work and learn. The goal of teaching and learning will reach new heights. I am looking forward to reaching those heights. Have a great weekend. Thank you for allowing us to serve your children each day. Regards, Lisa Bailes, Principal

Weekly Newsletter of South Charlotte Middle School

Parents:

I would like to remind you that our curriculum nights will be held next Tuesday and Thursday, September 10th and

12th. Sixth grade parents, we will host your curriculum night on the 10th and seventh/eighth grade parents, we will host

your curriculum night on September 12th. Each evening we will begin promptly at 6:00PM. There will be an opening

informational session in our cafetorium to begin the evening followed by presentations by our classroom teachers in

their classrooms. We look so forward to seeing you and sharing with you what your students are doing in class and what

they can expect in the future.

It has been great seeing many of you in the car line before and after school. Thank you for your support as we evaluate

best practices for ensuring safety of your children. All of you have been so cooperative and I appreciate that very

much. Our school is located in a very busy area; therefore, outside traffic is excessive; thus, we want to make our

operational practices as good as possible. We do have many cars parked along side streets and in other places, please

know that South Charlotte cannot control areas/roads that are not ours. Our resource officer monitors this and ensures

parents do not parking in NO PARKING areas. What we can do, however, is direct those students walking from school in

the best way possible. If your child is walking across the street from school, we will require them to go to the

crosswalk where there is a crossing guard located. I would like to ask also that as you approach the school to turn in,

please drive with caution. Again, thank you for helping me with this. I really want to make the car line as painless as

possible given our location and entrance/exit design.

I would like to thank Carolyn Blalock (parent) and Ms. Kimberly Susen (teacher) for working with our students in the

Cross Country Club. For the first day of training yesterday, we had over sixty students participate. The great thing about

club sports is that ALL students can participate, sixth grade included. We want all of our students to practice healthy

lifestyles and adding club sports can help with doing this. Thank you again, Mrs. Blalock, for your time and

efforts.

New Early Dismissal Policy

Mrs. Bailes has implemented a new policy for early dismissal this school year. For less

distraction in the instructional class time, please plan to pick up your children between

classes. For your convenience and planning purposes, please see the bell schedule be-

low. Please send a note with your student in the morning and have them bring it to

the guidance office. We will give them a pass so they are here upon your arrival to pick

them up. All students and parents should be prepared to follow this policy next week.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation to this change!
