Habitat for Humanity’s Global Village program sends volunteer teams overseas to assist with building homes for families in need. This year we are looking to return to El Salvador! No construction skills are required, just a desire to help, and enthusiasm for meeting new people and learning about a different culture. INTERNSHIPS IN GHANA: Summer 2014The Human Rights & Human Diversity (HRHD) program will be awarding FOUR (4) SUBSIDIZED 60-DAY INTERNSHIPS IN GHANA for summer 2014.
While preference will be given to Honours students in the HRHD program, students in all Laurier Brantford Honours programs are encouraged to apply. Explore Program & Odyssey ProgramAttention Students completing a French Teachable or those interested in the French language! A representative from the Explore & Odyssey Programs will be on campus on October 16. Presentation: 10:00 am -11:00 am in RCW203. Representatives will be available from 11:30 am - 3:30 pm in the RCW lobby to answer questions.
Explore Five-Week Summer French Immersion Bursary ProgramExplore is a way for students to learn French. Participants will attend classes and participate in social and cultural activities, while living in a French language community. Explore happens, either in the Spring session (May-June) or Summer session (July-August). Applicants have a chance to win a bursary that would cover all their expenses during the program, except for travel and a $225 registration fee to secure their bursary. Many schools give credit for this program. For more information, please visit www.myexplore.ca.
Languages at Work ProgramThe Languages at Work Program is for Explore Bursary recipients. For 3-8 weeks following the Explore immersion session, successful applicants who have presented a resume and interviewed in their second language (i.e. French or English) could work in that language at a job-site where they will have the opportunity to improve their language skills and gain valuable job experience. Odyssey Language-Assistant ProgramOdyssey is a nine-month contract in Quebec or New Brunswick in a school helping Francophone students practice their English speaking and listening skills From Sept. to the end of May (2014-2015), Odyssey participants will work 25 hours a week, earning approximately $20 an hour. They receive training at a Pan-Canadian training session in Quebec City in August. They will not work in French, but will be living in a French-speaking community, so they will have opportunities to practice the language when they are not at work. www.myodyssey.ca

Extramural Soccer (Men’s & Co-Ed) and Ice Hockey (Men’s & Women’s) TryoutsCome try out for some of Laurier’s most successful sports teams! Soccer tryouts are October 9th at 10:00pm at the Morton Soccer Complex! Make sure you bring turf cleats. Women’s hockey tryouts are October 15th at 10:00pm and the Men’s tryouts are at 11:00pm. Both hockey tryouts are being held at the Civic Centre.

New Fourth Year Criminology Class available in the Winter 2014 TermPlease be advised, CC 405Z (Advanced Topics in Criminal Law & Justice) is now available for students to register in. This class has only become available recently for registration in the Winter 2014 term.
