Value: $210,000 AUD

John Monash Scholarships recognise excellence and leadership, and celebrate one of Australia’s

finest leaders: General Sir John Monash. Scholarships are awarded annually to outstanding

Australian graduates to support them with post graduate study at the world’s best universities.

Successful applicants have demonstrated excellence in their field, leadership potential, and a

vision for how they can contribute to a better Australia.

The John Monash Scholarships are not limited by age, gender, academic field of study or

choice of overseas university.

To be eligible to apply for a John Monash Scholarship you must:

• Be an Australian Citizen;

• Have completed or be about to complete an degree from an Australian University, and;

• Be planning to undertake postgraduate study at an overseas university commencing in

the calendar year following the year of application and selection; it is not necessary to

have already been accepted to the institution at the time of applying.

RAS Foundation Rural Scholarships

Value: $6,000 AUD

Rural Scholarships are available to support individuals in NSW who demonstrate a passion for

rural communities and commitment for any career that will ensure the future success of rural

and regional NSW.

There is no limit on the types of courses that qualify or the age of the applicant. You could be

studying anything from physiotherapy, engineering, teaching, agricultural science, horticulture,

medicine and commerce – and almost everything in between. You could be studying at

University, TAFE or VET courses, on campus or by distance learning. However applicants all

have one thing in common – a desire to play an active part in the future of rural NSW.

QCoal Foundation has been established to deliver community-focused outcomes that enrich

rural and remote Queensland. The Foundation is focused on three broad support areas of

Health, Liveability and Education. This Scholarship will support an undergraduate student

Value: $25,000 AUD

The purpose of the Balnaves Foundation Indigenous Medical Scholarships is to encourage

Indigenous students to study Medicine at UNSW.

The Scholarship will normally be tenable for the minimum program duration (6 years) of the

Medicine program (BMed/MD), subject to satisfactory progress.

To be eligible for the Scholarship, applicants must be commencing full-time study in the

BMed/MD program at UNSW

Dr Herbert Gibson Rural Health Scholarship

Value: $20,000 AUD

A scholarship for students who are studying medicine and have a low income or are from a

regional or remote area of Australia.

Dr Herbert Gibson was born in Bendigo and moved to Melbourne to study Medicine at Monash.

He later became an academic staff member at Monash, and devoted his life to the care of

marginalised people.

JCU Access Fund

Value: $4,000 AUD

The JCU Access Fund could be the answer if money problems stand between you and a higher

education at James Cook University (JCU). Your financial circumstances are taken into

consideration when awarding these scholarships and bursaries.

The JCU Access Fund consists of three awards as below, you only need to submit one

application which will be assessed for all awards you may be eligible for.

There are two rounds, so if you are starting mid-year or missed Round 1 close date you can

apply for Round 2.

Arrow Energy-JCU Go Further Indigenous Tertiary Scholarships

Value: $10,000 AUD

Through the Arrow Energy Reconciliation Action Plan, Arrow is aiming to build mutually

beneficial relationships with Indigenous people and communities in a range of fields including

education.

As a part of this commitment, Arrow is providing tertiary scholarships to support Indigenous

students to attend and complete university.

The Clem Jones Sporting Scholarship

Value: $9,000 AUD

The aim of the Clem Jones Sporting Scholarship is to provide financial assistance that enables

applicants on low incomes to undertake study at Griffith University.

The scholarship will assist students with high levels of sporting and academic ability gain

tertiary qualifications from which they and the community will benefit.

The Griffith Sports Excellence Scholarships enable gifted sportsmen and sportswomen who

have the potential to perform at a sound academic level at a tertiary institution, to gain a higher

SongMakers

SongMakers is all about contemporary music. It’s a program aimed at musically-engaged senior

students in schools where there is a strong commitment to music education.

They take Australia’s top songwriters and producers in to schools to work with senior students

on creating and recording original songs in a two day workshop.

In the workshop they present the elements of songwriting, co-creation and production and give

students accessto some of the biggest names in music, right there in the classroom.

MACQUARIE LEADERS AND ACHIEVERS – Early Entry program

Macquarie Leaders and Achievers is our new early entry program that recognises a student’s

academic performance alongside their extracurricular activities that demonstrate leadership,

community service and personal achievement.

Year 12 students who meet the criteria are offered a place in their preferred degree before the

HSC examinations.

Do you have a passion for acting and drama? Did you know that the National Institute of

Dramatic Art (NIDA) hosts courses all across Australia? They have a wide variety of subjects

including acting, writing, singing, filmmaking, and more.

CASper Test

What is the CASper Test?

It’s a Computer Based Assessment for Sampling Personal Characteristics (CASper), designed to

demonstrate the strength of your people skills.

Test-takers are given a series of realistic, hypothetical scenarios and asks them to type

out what they would do if they were to be in that particular situation.

It tests for things like your communication, teamwork, and conflict resolutions skills, as well as

your compassion, empathy and professionalism.

It’s used as additional admission criteria for the benefit of the institution you’re applying to,

similar to how an interview might be used for employment. They want to know that you are

really well suited to the career you’re applying for.

In the same way you wouldn’t expect to receive ‘results’ from an interview or reference check,

you won’t receive your CASPer results.

What’s involved?

Applicants will need to complete 12 sections – each containing a video-based or written

scenario, followed by three questions.

For each scenario, all three questions must be answered within a total of 5 minutes.

Your responses won’t be checked for things like spelling and grammar, instead you’ll be

assessed on how you tackle the ethical and professional situations put forward.

Your results are forwarded directly to the institutions you’ve elected in the distribution section.

Can you fail?

There are no right or wrong answers – just answers that reflect your personal attributes that

indicate how suitable you are for teaching / medicine / veterinary science etc. You can’t ‘fail’,

but your responses could mean that you won’t be offered a place on the degree.

How much does it cost?

The CASPer test costs $80, and is non-refundable. The distribution fee is included.

Do you need to do it?

If you are a domestic student planning on applying to do one of the following courses at the

listed institutions then YES.

When can you sit the tests?

Test dates for 2020 applications haven’t all been updated yet. Check here for updated dates.

CASPer can only be written once for Australian Education between August 1st and July 31st of

any given year. Note: deadlines vary for each university and depending on your application

method e.g. direct or through VTAC.

Set test dates can be each month between September and the following Feb or June

(depending on the institution).

It’s also worth noting the distribution deadline for each course or institution. It’s the final date

that you can a school to your CASPer score distribution list.

What next?

If you’ll need to sit the test:

1. Go to takecasper.com

2. Register for an account

3. Make sure you have the ID required

4. Reserve your test date

5. Pay

6. Sit the test

What you’ll need:

1. Valid ID (see the requirement for each University – listed above)

2. A working webcam

3. A computer in a quiet place that is able to host the test.

Generally, it’s touted as being a great way to combat stress, but it seems that there are plenty

Paddington Art Prize

The Paddington Art Prize is a $30,000 National acquisitive prize, awarded annually for a painting

inspired by the Australian landscape.

The prize encourages the interpretation of the landscape as a significant contemporary genre,

Lester Prize Youth Award

The Lester Prize Youth Award encourages the creative talents of young, aspiring and emerging

artists. It is open to all High School students across Australia and children in care at the Perth

Children’s Hospital (PCH). The Prize allows entrants to showcase their works and present their

unique artistic perspectives; helps build their confidence to further their art practice; and

allows them to share their stories with the wider community.

Carpenter

What do they do?

Carpenters are highly skilled, important within the construction and renovation industries, in

both commercial and residential settings. They work with wood in all its forms. From putting up

timber frames for buildings, to boat making, creating cabinetry or fine furniture, the scope is

very broad.

If you’re practical with a creative streak, love to be hands on, have great attention to detail and

love a bit variety, this could be a really rewarding career to consider.

Duties:

These vary greatly depending on the job and type of carpentry, here’s a rough guide.

• Read and interpret plans and designs

• List, measure and price materials required

• build, install, repair and erect wooden frames, foundations, walls and other structural

elements.

• cut, measure and shape timber elements, using precise measurements and adjustments

• construct formwork into which concrete is poured

• use both hand and power tools, maintain and sharpen tools.

Skills required:

• Creativity and visualisation of finished products

• Dexterity and a steady hand

• Physical strength and stamina

• Maths

• Attention to detail

• Patience

Pathways

Apprenticeships with registered training organisations, minimum Certificate III in Carpentry.

Entry requirements vary, but employers generally require Year 10.

Workers in the construction industry must undergo safety induction training and be issued with

a Construction Induction Card (CIC).

Average salary ranges from $40,000 to $90,000 per year depending on type of carpentry and
