From Front Page...Second came visitors fromGermany, who spent a total of €911 million during the firsttwo months of this year. Third place for internationalspending in Spain went to Scandinavian visitors, whospent €846 million while visitors from France spent €641million.

The results are linked to both the strong pound offeringthe best exchange rates against the Euro for seven yearstogether with the growing economy in the UK with zeroinflation allowing the general public to be in a position toafford more. The economy grew at a faster pace than ini-tially estimated by 0.6% in the final three months of 2014. Previous estimates have indicated the economy grew by0.5% and the unexpected increase means that growth forthe year was 2.8%, higher than the earlier estimate of2.6%. The rate marks the highest pace of annual growth since2006, when the economy grew by 3%. An expansion inproduction and services as well as household spendinghelped to drive the increase but the biggest contributionto the revised figure was surprisingly a strong perform-

ance of UK exports. In a separate report issued said thatconsumer confidence in March has hit the best level in12 Years. Visitors to Spain and ex-pats living from theirUK income are much better off with a high above 1.38against the Euro (EUR), making a 2% recovery since theend of last week.

Last Monday afternoon, driving from Benidorm toAltea became a realpatience exercise.

The N-332 road waschoked in the area passingthrough Alfaz del Pi, andAltea has also sufferedseveral jams and the trafficwill only increase when thetourists arrive. These twoareas are the most affect-ed places because Alfazdel Pi and Altea arealready suffering from traf-fic congestion every day.

After a relaxed winter,Easter comes and theproblem is more evident onthe national road whichlinks Benidorm with Altea.Politicians have promised

a ring road for years, butthat never comes. It is onlya nine kilometre road, but itbecomes a nightmare forthe residents who have todrive it to get to work orother daily activities.

Both directions have thesame problem, no matter ifyou are going from Altea toBenidorm or the oppositeway and the worse area isthe road cross to Alfaz delPi, where cars can be sta-tionery for up to 20 min-utes.

The roundabout infra-structure was planned tobe opened on March 26thbut we will have to waitfor it to be finished.

Taking a holiday in Spain during thesummer when everything is in fullswing, nightlife is bursting withoptions one can soak up the sun-shine on the beach or by a pool. The bars and restaurants are openevery day and evening, water andtheme parks welcome visitors fromaround the world and there is awonderful feeling of enjoyment inthe air.

This is indeed one side of life inSpain, but to live here you need tobe aware that in most places it isn'tquite as described above. For thisreason, choosing the right locationfor you new home is extremelyimportant and this will depend onmany things, including climate, accessibility to local amenities andtransport links.

Most British people head for thecoastal resorts, here you will find avariety of property types, fromapartments to gated communitieswith lovely villas. Apartment blockscan be noisy if not well sound insu-lated, and may not have parkingspaces.

Perhaps the all-important sea viewmay not be the answer for you, butpresumably you will be looking for awell-constructed and finished apart-ment a road or two back from thebeach with perhaps a mountainview and plenty of parking?Urbanisations are popular and

some do have on site shops andother amenities, but the majoritydon't. Will you be happy to drive tothe nearest supermarket on a dailybasis? How far is the doctor's sur-gery, your bank, the bar?

Before you buy your property, con-sider how many years you expect tolive in it, whether you will be happyto move later on into a town to bewithin walking distance of every-thing, or whether you need that now. Many people seek peace and quiet, but that comes with certain incon-veniences which may prove moredifficult in future years. If you enjoywater sports, try to find a locationclose to a diving or water skiingschool all the better if you can gothere by foot. In larger towns andcities, public transport services aregood, but often the smaller villagesmay not have any, or they may havejust one bus that goes once a day inthe morning and returns once a dayin the evening. It's important toassess this before you buy.

It really boils down to doing theresearch in your chosen area, in thestreets around the property you like,in the nearest village or town and insummer and winter. Spain offers somuch variety that there is some-where for everyone, but the trick isfinding the right location for you andyour circumstances. Happy hunting!

“Excellent food”Reviewed 1 March 2015A nice place, great surroundings with real fires for a wintersnight. Friendly staff and good service. The food was excellent Ihad the fillet steak and it is probably the best steak I have everhad, it simply melted in my mouth and was cooked to perfec-tion. All the food was good but the steak stood out as perfect.

“Lovely surroundings excellant meal”Reviewed 20 February 2015We visited this lovely eatery whilst staying with friends in Javea. We came here years ago and enjoyed it but apparently itdeclined a bit, so they changed owner, refurbed and its reallynice inside. The food was lovely with a small bowl of soup as acomplimentary starter, I am vegetarian and had the grilled vegdish delightful they are using the old grill station again and thesteaks were amazing as some of my party testified. Not thecheapest of the restaurants around but well worth it, my partnerhad the jamon and they have a really professional looking manwho brings the jamon trolley to your table and carves it for you.All in all a really nice evening.

“Amazing steak!!!”Reviewed 15 February 2015Visited El Gaucho with Argentine family numerous times lastyear. We all thought that the food was outstanding. The setmenu is a great deal and you always somehow manage to fit inpudding despite the enormous steaks. This is definitely some-where we will visit time and time again.

“great Sunday lunch”Reviewed 15 February 2015We were passing and the place didn't look open, so I calledand they welcomed us in, although without a booking, we juststruck lucky and sat upstairs overlooking the action. The barbe-cue sent delicious smells upstairs and the menu was goodvalue, tasty and well served. the bar is laid out with saddles forseats and it's a great atmosphere. After about 5 minutes theplace was packed and when we left there were people queuing, speaks for itself I think!after us very well.

The Latest BUZZ from the Motoring World

Peugeot considers itself at the enviro-van-guard, with all kinds of perfectly reasonablecaveats (apart from so-and-so, who makecars that are tiny; and such-and-such, whoonly do electric). Apart from them, they reallythink they’re getting somewhere. The 508RXH – top of the 508 range, and so muchprettier than the 407 – has more up its sleevethan a bit of engine-cutting in traffic.

The diesel engine is a patented world leaderin particulate reduction. The emissions are thelowest I’ve encountered for a car this size(119g/km). To prevent overheating and lessenthe need for air-conditioning, even the win-dows have a greenish tint which, with theacoustic lamination and leather upholstery, made me feel insulated and remote – echoingly far awayfrom my fellow road users. Paradoxically, since the car islarge, I was often closer than I thought. The blind spotsensors, tiny orange spirals on the wing mirrors, glowed.“Other cars are using the road,” they warned me, silently.“It’s the A23!” I’d yell. “Of course they are.” The spirals, undeterred, kept glowing.

There are four modes, “auto”, “four-wheel drive” (the

back wheels powered by an electric motor), “Zev” (100%electric for short distances) and “sport”. For the first fewdays, in auto, the acceleration was iffy: from 15 to 30, itwould pull back, then surge into a perceptible skid. Byday four, I could no longer make it happen and every-thing felt smooth, powerful but biddable. Day six, I wasactively trying to skid, to demonstrate to my mister, whilehe drummed his fingers on the green glass, saying,“Really? You’re trying to make yourself skid in the rain, with children in the back?” “I just want to test the elec-

tronic brake force distribution!”

Small things were annoying. The dashboardcomponents were distracting in the over-reflec-ty front window; the parking camera wouldhappily direct you to drive into a bollard. It wasnever obvious whether you should push theparking button up or down until you’d tried bothways twice. Harsh conditions, poor visibility, giant puddles, sudden diversions round cor-ners: all that suits the 508, makes sense of itssize, shows off its vigour and draws attention toits confident handling. One could imagine one-self more glamorous, more European andmodern, living in a mountainous region, beingmore eco. That’s what you want from a familysaloon, right? Some safety; acres of delusion.

New-car sales rose 26 percent in Spainlast month, the 18th consecutive monthof growth, car manufacturers' associa-tion Anfac said.

The February figure compared to a 28percent rise in January, helped by a gov-ernment subsidy program.

Registrations last month rose to 86,717,while sales over the first two months ofthe year rose to 154,836 cars, Anfacsaid. The government announced on Fridaythat it was extending the Plan PIVEscheme that offers price cuts on newlow-emission vehicles for the seventhtime.

SPAIN NEW-CAR SALES ROSE 26% LAST MONTHTop Gear in its current format simplycannot and will not survive withoutJeremy Clarkson.

His chemistry on-screen with RichardHammond and James May was the veryglue which held the show together in theearly years, and then solidified it as timepassed and made Top Gear so utterlyfantastic to watch. To replace Clarkson

with a new presenter would be a cata-strophic mistake.

Hammond and May already know this,I’m sure. They’ll likely continue to beinvolved with the BBC and work on theirown shows separately, but I’d say theirTop Gear days are most definitely over.Expect to hear more about that soon.

HEALTH & FAMILY

We all have our reasons for taking thedrastic step of packing up and moving toSpain. For some it is simple: sun, sea and san-gria. For others it is an attempt to escapeunhappy situations or relationships backhome. Whatever the reason, we all findout sooner or later that living in anothercountry is not as easy as we may havebelieved. It does not solve personal oremotional problems and may even com-pound them as we do not have our lovedones around for support.

We all feel ‘down’ from time to time whenthings are not going well but there is a bigdifference between this and depression.Depression is an illness like any other andrequires assessment and individualisedtreatment. Many people do not realise ordo not want to acknowledge that they aredepressed and it will be a friend or familymember that sees the signs and encour-ages the sufferer to seek help. Some peo-ple resist any kind of intervention as theyfeel that there is some kind of shameattached to being diagnosed with depres-sion when in fact the brain is an organ likeany other. If you had a problem with yourheart you would see a Doctor withoutquestion!

Around 2 in 3 adults suffer with depres-sion at some point in their lives. It is morecommon in women with 1 in 4 requiringtreatment as opposed to 1- 10 men.

Symptoms vary between individuals but ifyou, or somebody you know has beenfeeling low andhad several ofthe followingsymptoms formore than 2weeks, adviceshould besought.

Low mood formost of the day, nearly every day.Loss of enjoy-ment and inter-est in life, even

for activities that you normally enjoy.Abnormal sadness, often with weepiness.Feelings of guilt, worthlessness or use-lessness.Poor motivation. Even simple tasks seemdifficult.Poor concentration. It may be difficult toread, work etc.Sleep problems such as insomnia, sleep-ing too much or early wakingLacking in energy, always tired.Difficulties with affection including lowlibido.Poor appetite and weight loss or the oppo-site, comfort eating and weight gain.Physical symptoms such as headaches, palpitations, chest pains and generalaches.Recurrent thoughts of death. Feeling thatlife is not worth living or suicidal thoughts.

Treatments include counselling, herbal orconventional medications and comple-mentary therapies such as hypnotherapyand acupuncture.

Depression can have a massive negativeimpact not only on the sufferer but onthose around that person and should notbe ignored. Seeking help can seem daunt-ing but a friendly chat with your G.P. orNurse who can complete an assessmentand discuss any concerns that you mayhave is the perfect first step to feelingyourself again.

Article Supplied By Family MedicalAlbir. If you, or anyone you know issuffering with depression, call your GP.

FEELING DOWN?Given any discussion about your owndeath and consequent funeral is the lastbig taboo, this is a difficult subject toaddress. However, to paraphraseBenjamin Franklin – in this world noth-ing can be said to be certain, exceptdeath and taxes. So, the only way topresent this subject is to be open andpractical about the chooses we faceand pleaseremember, this isnot about you.

Your nearest anddearest are thepeople who willgrieve your part-ing and be facedwith the problemof organising andpaying for anappropriate andrespectful funer-al. It is yourspouse, your lifepartner, your chil-dren or yourfriends that haveto carry this bur-den when theyare in state of emotionally stress.

Given we would like to make it as easyas possible for them, at this time of griefthat is exacerbated by our choice to livein Spain, there are plans we shouldmake now and I would like to simplygive you an outline of your options.

1. Do nothing – this obviously isthe worst case as it will course maxi-mum stress and maximum cost. Yournearest and dearest may have no ideaof what to do first or how to organise afuneral in Spain.2. Leave your body to science –this can course emotional stress to yournearest and dearest as there will be nofuneral conducted as part of the griev-ing process. Also, the plan can be fun-damentally ‘flawed’ if a post mortem isrequired or if you die out of the Provinceas it will negate the agreement leading

to a requirement for a funeral anyway. 3. Buy funeral insurance – there

are a few flawshere. The planonly works ifyou keep pay-ing the premi-ums and onlycovers you inSpain. Also the costincreases withtime, i.e. youcould be payinghigh premiumsfor many yearsand eventuallypay more, thanyou would havedone, if you hadchosen to donothing in thefirst place.

4. Buy a pre-paid funeral plan –the benefits here are many but a fewcritical points are. You get a single‘emergency telephone number’ to callthat will initiate implementation of thecomplete plan. The cost is fixed at thetime of purchase and will neverincrease, therefore saving money. Theplan will work both here in Spain or inthe UK if you decide to return ‘home’.The only flaw is can you afford it?

If you would like to know more aboutyour chooses or the details of theGolden Leaves pre-paid funeralplans, obviously I would be only toohappy to meet with you privately.

SPONSORED BY ALFAZ FANTASYFOOTBALL LEAGUEThe last International Break before theend of the Season saw the 4 U.K.Teamsand the Republic of Ireland all move astep closer for qualifying for the EuropeanChampionships. The 5 Nations havenever previously qualified for the samemajor Tournament but all remain hopefulof reaching next Summer's Tournament inFrance.(Fingers Crossed)With the Premier League taking a restdue to the Break it gives us a chance toReview what's happened so far in thisSeason's Alfaz Faantasy League.Up to now we have had 6 different Teamsat the Summit.Cisne Jack City,We RLeeds,Cowden Red Devils,Bars aLoner,Lenny's Spreaders and the currentLeaders The Potters. At the moment ThePotters are favourites with BET FRED towin this Season's Fantasy as they have a63 point advantage over 2nd placedKeith's Max & Paddy. Based on pastHistory it suggests that the Teams withthe Players left in the F.A.Cup will have abetter chance of lifting the much soughtafter Fantasy League Trophy.Out of thetop 5 Teams Super Rhys have the mostleft in with 4 Players. Our Mark Carter Ladies Section hasbeen dominated by Lesley's Team LawsLads who had held on to the top spot for19 Weeks until last Week when Sarah'sTeam The Dons knocked them off the top.4 other Teams have enjoyed a stay at theSummit and they are Lyndy Lou's Boys(1Week ) Pauline's Vodka Army(5Weeks)Blue Monday(2 Weeks) andShaztastic(1 Week). This Section will goright down to the wire with only 28 pointsbetween the top 4.The U.K.T.V.SPAIN Junior League has

been topsy Turvy to say the least. Earlyon Rocky's Mini Spurs set the pace butthey were soon caught by youngBradley's Team Killer 2000(where dothese Young Ones get the names from). From then on the top spot was sharedbetween 4 Teams,Sponge Bob XI,GingerNinja,Dog Dale and the present LeadersSuper Rhys. This League could also be aclose run situation with nothing to chosebetween the top 4 Teams.Unless there is an avalanche of goals Ican't see Keith's Team Max & Paddy notwinning our Golden Boot League which issponsored by Leonard KnowlesConstruction. Their advantage overSuper Rhys is a substantial 55points.They have been at the Summit for18 Weeks now and don't look like givingup their exalted position. The 1st Team totop this Section was Neil's 7 Palms PlayaPoniente, then Mike's side The Shed tookover followed by Jarrod's We RLeeds. The only Lady Manager to top thisLeague was Karen when her TeamFlorida Pearls took over for 1 Week butsince then it's been Max & Paddy all theway.3 Teams have topped our F.A.CupLeague so far and they are Tom'sBenidorm Trotters,Evertonian Tom'sLimoneros Caramelo and Marcus'sSalford Sausages. Two Teams have 6Players left in the F.A.Cup Richard'sRainbow Warriors and Steph's SeymourShooters which could prove decisive inthe final run in.Looking back on how the Players havefared so far in this Season's FantasyLeague. There have been 65 penaltiesawarded of which 10 were missed,29 own

goal with Leicester City being the biggestculprits putting 6 past their ownKeeper. No wonder they are bottom of thePremier League.Up to now there havebeen 65 Players going for an earlyBath.Swansea and Aston Villa lead theway 7 players from each Club gettingtheir marching orders.By the way Burnleyare the only Team not to have had aPlayer sent off.The top Players so far are,GoalkeeperManchester United's David DeGea with97 points,no surprise there has he hasbeen easily the best Keeper in thePremier League.Top Defender isChelsea's Ivanovic with 105 points. He isalso top defender in the Golden BootLeague with 4 goals to his name. In Mid-Field Chelsea's Edin Hazard leads theway with 127 points followed by Arsenal'sCazorla 10 points behind.Top Forwardand also top Fantasy League scorer isSpur's and new England Striker HarryKane with a tally of 146 points. NearestPlayer to him is Manchester City's SergioAguero with 136 points.Top Player in theGolden Boot League is Chelsea's DiegoCosta with 95 points. The highest score so far in the Fantasy isby Big Sam's Army who collected 87points in Week 17 whilst the lowest scoreis minus 7 which goes to Diane's TeamA.J.Bell.Well with the finishing line in sight for allthe Leaders of our various Leagues it'simportant to stay focused and visit ourwebsite which is www.alfazffl.com or ifyou can't access a computer you canalways call into Hepburns or The Local inAlbir and get all the latest News andResults.

KHAN: BROOK CANWAIT HIS TURN

Kell Brook has called Amir Khan's bluffregarding a potential grudge fightbetween the pair - telling his Britishrival: "It's not about money for me."

The calls for Khan to finally settle his long-running feud with Brookhave grown stronger in thelast few days, but the Boltonfighter insists he has morepressing issues.

While Khan is keen to meetthe IBF welterweight cham-pion "one day", he added hewould be keen on a winner-takes-all fight.

Brook, though, is unfazedas he told Sky Sports NewsHQ: "It's not about moneyfor me. It's about everywhere I go, (peopleasking) 'when are you going to fight him?'.

It's public demand now. I think that he'sgetting forced in to this fight if he gets in."

Brook defended his world title with a four-round demolition job of mandatory chal-lenger Jo Jo Dan over the weekend and issupremely confident he could do a similarjob on Khan, whose much-maligned chinis still considered to be a major weakness.

"He's been knocked down to the canvasby super-featherweights in his career,"said Brook.

TOWNSEND STRIKESAVES ENGLAND

Andros Townsend rescued a 1-1 drawfor England as their seven-match win-ning run was brought to a halt by Italyin Turin.

The Spurs winger has made a habit ofsaving his best for the international stageand he did it again for the Three Lions ashe came off the bench to crash home awonderful equaliser 11 minutes from time.

Italy had bossed the first period anddeservedly led when Southampton strikerGraziano Pelle guided home on the halfhour after Phil Jones had failed to stopGiorgio Chiellini's run and cross.

Roy Hodgson used the encounter toexperiment with his line-up and gaveTottenham's Harry Kane his full bow. Theforward was starved of service for much of

the first half but did have a hand in themove that saw Wayne Rooney hit thecrossbar with a deflected volley.

The Three Lions improved after the breakand Kane saw a low shot drift just wide ofthe near post while Kieran Gibbs shouldhave done better when he fired into theside netting after fine link-up betweenEngland's front two. The Rooney andKane partnership had some real momentsof promise and the Spurs striker will behappy with his display on his first start forhis country.

The visitors continued to press as thegame got stretched and after Townsendlevelled they almost won it, but Rooneywas denied by the impressive GianluigiBuffon.

The Netherlands once again provedtoo good for an under-par Spain asgoals from Stefan de Vrij and DavyKlaasen handed the hosts a 2-0 friend-ly win in Amsterdam on Tuesday.pain were hoping to exact revenge forthe 5-1 thrashing they suffered at thehands of the Dutch at last year's WorldCup, but their chances were undoneby two goals in the opening 15 min-utes.

De Vrij rose highest to head homeWesley Sneijder's in-swinging crossbefore Klaasen was given an alarmingamount of space inside the box to firehome on the rebound after David deGea had saved his initial effort.

Defeat means the European champi-ons have now lost friendlies againstthree continental heavyweightsFrance, Germany and the Dutch since

being dumped out in embarrassingfashion after just two games at theWorld Cup.

Del Bosque made nine changes to theside that sneaked past Ukraine 1-0 in aEuro 2016 qualifier on Friday, whilstHiddink made just five alterations fromhis side's 1-1 draw with Turkey.

The extra strength in the Dutch sidepaid dividends in a flying start as DeVrij, who also scored in the 5-1 thrash-ing in Salvador 10 months ago, opened the scoring with a superbheader from Sneijder's dangerouscross. Just three minutes later it was 2-0 when Klaasen pounced on a looseball inside the area area and despitefiring his first effort too close to DeGea, the rebound fell kindly for theAjax midfielder to lash the ball high intothe net.
