• Note for parents/carers: Some of our work

sheets are differentiated. There is no expectation

to do all question sheets where there is more

than one. Look at the bottom of the question

papers for star symbols. 1 star = easiest. 3 stars =

hardest. Choose the one you feel your child is the

most comfortable with.

GEOGRAPHY

AROUND THE WORLD IN 8 WEEKS

This half-term we will be learning all about different countries around the world. Some of you may be familiar with the book ‘MAPS’ by Aleksandra and Daniel Mizielinska. You may have even looked at the copy in 5P’s classroom.

MAPS is a fun and informative book which takes you on a journey around the globe. Continent by continent, it helps you to learn about individual countries through child-friendly illustrations and labels. But of course, the book couldn’t feature every country and there are many missing! Each of you has been allocated one of the missing countries (please find the country allocation list on your class page).

The aim is to spend the next 6 weeks researching and finding out as much as possible about your allocated country. Each week, we will give you the subject areas to research (food, landmarks etc.) and towards the end of the half-term, we will ask you to put all the information together into an A4/A3 sized pictorial representation – a bit like a poster (please see the next slides for example pages of what we are aiming for). This can be done either by hand in your neatest handwriting and colouring, on the computer, or a mixture of both. School will then take in all of your work and put it together to make our very own year 5 book entitled -

MAPS. Around the World in 8 Weeks: The Missing Countries

This will be a wonderful book to enjoy and share in school for years to come!

Parents/Carers: If you are able to either

purchase or borrow a copy of this book, we

would recommend it! It really is a fantastic

book to have and will support your child

with this project and future geography work.

If not, don’t worry, as there should be some

example pages on the internet.

SPELLINGS

• Practise your spellings for this week using the look, cover, write method x3 for each word and the games that are available on:

• Discuss the definition (meaning) of each word with either an adult or an older sibling and try to put that word into a sentence. You could use a dictionary if there is no one available to support with this.

• Next, ask someone in your household to test you on these spellings and then mark together.

• If you got any of the words incorrect, practise these again!

Page 29: WEEK BEGINNING 29 JUNE · 2020-06-29 · Wednesday Maths Literacy P.E. Thursday Maths Literacy Science Friday Maths Spelling PSHE THE EXPECTED TIME PER ACTIVITY IS AROUND 30 MINUTES,

PSHE

• We are going to start to look at some PSHE for

the rest of the term. The focus is going to be

thinking about self-esteem, confidence and how to

handle tricky situations.

• We would like you to go through the Be Yourself

PowerPoint presentation with a family member.

Discuss the statements and answer the questions

together. It is important to do this as a discussion

so you can hear other peoples views and opinions.

• When you have done that we want you to

complete the Supporting Others activity sheet. Read

the statements and write a letter replying to each

of them and how they could share their thoughts

and feelings.
