Dear Parents, Students and the School Community, This week’s newsletter pays homage to the magnificent support we as a school community are continu-ing to receive post bushfire. The following quilts pictured in this week’s newsletter were donated by Oz Comfort Quilts. Each quilt contains hand sewn washing and care instructions as well as the quilt maker’s name. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Happy birthday to Zoe who is celebrating her birthday on 12th June. We hope you have an amazing day. MINOR GRANTS WORK HAS COMMENCED Work over the long weekend commenced on the repairing of the window pane frames on the school buildings. Once this has been completed, they will be able to be painted white. School Council vot-ed on the colour scheme for the buildings. The popular choice was classic cream for the main build-ings and basalt for the retainer wall. These are colour bond colours. The green for the sub floor cladding will be matched with the colour bond green on the external toilet block walls. Painting has commenced on the Art room building. The painters will continue to work over the school holi-days and weather dependent are expecting the works to be completed before August. SCHOOL REPORTS Student testing for school reports is well underway. School reports will be handed out to parents the last week of Term 2. To assist the teachers’ with their testing, Buchan Primary School received a $600 grant as part of the ‘SEVR Assessment Tools 2020’ package. We have put this money towards ACER Pat M and Pat R online testing for Mathematics and Literacy. We will use this program in Term 4. SPECIALIST CLASSES TERM 3 Term 3 specialist classes will run as follows: Cooking with Mr Doring and LOTE (Italian and Music) with Mrs Walker.

MUSIC Jane Stamp (Sarah’s music mentor) did some team teaching music lessons with Sarah and the junior and senior school today. Each class was given 2 x 1 hour music sessions as an introduction to this specialist class commencing in Term 3. They will have another music lesson tomorrow as well. Our original grant of $5000 from The Song Room – Creative kids, brighter kids (Music Program) has changed and we have been provided with an additional $1500 worth of musical instruments. I have ordered these with the help of Jane my music mentor and they will arrive the first day of Term 3.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is open and Buchan Primary School is excited to be participat-

ing.

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of

reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a

set number of books by 4th September 2020.

Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and

teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.

All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian

Premier and former Premiers.
