JESUS ACCORDING TO MATTHEW | WEEK 6: TEMPTATION PAGE 1 We are in week six of a series called “Jesus According to Matthew.” In this series, we are taking a long, slow walk through the book of Matthew. As we unpack what Matthew wrote about the life of Jesus, we will explore what Jesus would say about our world, our culture, and each of our lives. If you weren’t able to hear the sermon this weekend, check it out at firstdecatur.org/jesusaccordingtomatthew WEEK 6: FOLLOW This weekend, Pastor Wayne discussed the beginning of Jesus’ ministry as recorded in Matthew 4:12-25. He talked about how Matthew once again demonstrated that Jesus was the Messiah, by showing that his movement to Galilee and Capernaum was a fulfillment of Isaiah 9:1-2. He talked about Jesus calling his first four disciples and what it means to follow. He also talked about what it means for each of us to be light to the world around us as Jesus taught about in Matthew 5:13-16. OPENING CONVERSATION As we begin this week, take a moment to answer these questions: Have you ever collected something (e.g. coins, baseball cards, etc.)? Why did you collect that item? If money was no object, what kind of collection would you begin today? Pastor Wayne shared the story of Walter Cavanaugh this weekend. Walter has a collection of nearly 1500 active credit cards amounting to 1.7 million dollars in credit. While this story may seem crazy, the truth is we often chase things in life with the wrong goal in mind? What are some goals that people are easily drawn to that miss the greater goal in life?
