This will make a large dent in the list of items requiring maintenance at THS as such is very welcome news. On behalf of the school community, I would to thank Mr Anderson for his ongoing support of our school. NAPLAN 2017 is over for another year and students in Years 7 & 9 are geng back into a normal roune. Well done Years 7 & 9! Last Friday 12 May 2017 three Tamworth High sides entered the NRL League Tag 10-a-side gala day. We had two open sides and one Under 14s side taking part in the modified version of Oz Tag. The two open girls teams were victorious in all their games dominating the com-petition.

They beat Quirindi, Oxley, Uralla and Peel High to eventually having to play each other in the final. This ended up being a very close game which is reflective of the talent that we have here at Tamworth High. It was a close fought match with the final score being 2-1 to the more experienced (I don’t like to call them old) side Tamworth Blue. The U14’s, being only a very new side didn’t win a match during the carnival but demonstrated great sportsmanship and will no doubt be a force to be reckoned with in the years to come. All the girls were great ambassadors for Tamworth High and the officials were very impressed with their skill level and sportsman-ship throughout the day.

A quick thanks must also go to the four Tamworth High boys who helped with the reffing duties on the day. They were: Jack Murphy, Kyle Nicholson, Jermey Milo and Mason Bayliss.

The teams were:

Opens Tamworth Blue:Lara Follington, Jamie Blackler, Chloe Waterhouse, Abrianna Dow, Georgia White, Angel Guy, Gabbie McChron, Chloe Allwell, Paris Knox, Georgia Holcome, Sian Hague

Opens Tamworth White:Gemma Harper, Isabella Dominick, Kayla Muscat, Emily Donald, Elizabeth Woods, Tessie Walters, Dakota Barnett-Suey, Kaylah Daly, Lucy Hofman, Lara Porter

Under 14s:Kyra Sims, Tamika Humphries, Ashanti Fletcher, Sophie Hobden, Holly Murphy, Maddison Soles, Maddison Carter, Ebony bates, Tamia haines, Darcy Simpson Craig, Jalika Leslie, Tamisha Sampson

UNE Open DayOpen Day at the University of New England was an opportunity for our Students to be exposed to the life as a university student. Initally the campus seemed a little daunting to the students who went and the options of what they could actually do was overwhelming.

The open day gave students an insight into all aspects of UNE including academic, cultural, sporting and residen-tial life. Students had the opportunity to explore degree options that may be of interest to them and see lecture halls.

I quite enjoyed showing the students the University I attended and I think they enjoyed that I asked lots of questions for them! The bus trip was very quiet on the way home - some very exhausted students. A big thank you to Mr Patfield for driving us safely.

Northwest Regional Careers ExpoThe annual Careers Expo was run this year by the Rotary Club First Light on Wednesday 17 May 2017. All students from Year 10, 11 & 12 attended over two sessions and ex-plored their options for University, TAFE, employers and various other options for their futures after high school.

Students took advantage of all the information provided as well as the promotional gear that was offered, running the annual competition of who can get the most “stuff”.

Hopefully this has been an opportunity for students to think more deeply about their future careers.

Defence Force RecruitingWe had visitors from the Navy and Army speak to us about careers in the Defence Force. Students were given information about Technical & Non-Technical Entry into the Armed Forces as well as opportunities for work ex-perience and Gap Year programs. Many questions were asked by our budding soldiers, sailors, and aircrew with a number of students staying behind to ask for more in-depth information to assist in their future decisions.

Work ExperienceThis week has seen our Year 10 Support Students complete their final work experience placement at the THS Canteen. Each student has fulfilled a two hour place-ment, once a week over the last ten weeks and they have provided extremely helpful assistance to our Canteen Supervisor.

The students have enjoyed the opportunity to enhance their kitchen-hand skills and have experienced a closer

look at how a hospitality business is conducted serving a large number of customers.

Congratulations and thank you to our very capable Year 10 students.
