Have you ever wondered who someone was? Maybe you were at a party, in abar or even just on the bus.

You might have recognized the person from somewhere. Their face mighthave seemed familiar or maybe your have heard their voice before. Whatwould you do if you recognized someone on the bus? Would you go over tothem and say hi or would you slump down in your chair, look out the window

and try not to be seen? Maybe it just depends on who it is.

In Jerrys case he was not recognized at all he was a total stranger- and to behonest the waitress was not very friendly or good at her job.

What would you do if you went into a bar and someone asked another personin the bar quite loudly, whos that? I would probably do what Jerry didfeeluncomfortable but stay in the bar and order something.

Isnt it funny how we choose to suffer social awkwardness rather than just

leave? I mean, Jerry could have left the bar and gone to a different place toeat, but he decided to stick it out there. What would you have done?

Week 1: Who's That Guy? It's English Time!

Step 3: What Did Jerry Say?: TRANSCRIPT

Check your answers below. Also watch the video and read along. As

you read you can listen to Jerry speaking. Do this at least three times.

Look at this. You know what this is? This is a blister from me lifting weights

and like getting my hand pinched in between the weight?

I go for a workout three times a week now. Afterwards I have to drive home

and theres a whole bunch of junk food restaurants on the way back.

I ended up going to Hennesseys a couple of weeks ago. This is the first time I

went there since they opened up and they turned into a bar. So I walked in. I

was just looking around because they had changed it so much. There was like

this big bar in the middle of the room and off to the side was this popcorn

    machine.

I went over to the popcorn machine automatically and I just started filling up

the basket. And and I looked around and the bartender who was a woman,

was talking to the manager and she pointed to me. And she goes Whos that

    guy?

Automatically, I just felt alienated because I thought what bartender would say

Whos that guy within earshot of of a paying customer?

The manager came over to me and I started explaining to him: Well, sir, I

havent been to this place. I dont know the conduct and Im sorry for taking

your popcorn. Its like OK you can sit down and order if youd like.

So I sat at the bar and immediately this woman comes over to me, the

bartender, and she goes OK whatll ya have?

So I go I dont want a drink yet, thank you, I just wanna look at the menu.

So Im looking at the menu and theres probably about five guys sitting at the

bar and shes the only woman in the place. So I finally order the steak

    sandwich.

Meanwhile a couple other guys come in and they order and they get their

orders while Im waiting for my food. And Im just waiting I was simmering

    about it.

Week 1: Who's That Guy? It's English Time!

Finally, I get my steak sandwich which was probably about half an hour later. I

guess on the menu it said its supposed to come with mashed potatoes corn

bread and a cucumber salad but after half hour of waiting it came with fries.

So I go Could you check on this? And Im supposed to be getting mashed

potatoes, cornbread and a cucumber salad. So she goes Oh OK. She comes

back with the cucumber salad and the mashed potatoes but no cornbread. So I

go Im going to forget the cornbread. I ordered a beer and she ended up

giving me the tab. It was a dollar more than I thought it was going to be.

So I said I hate to be a pain but can you tell me why this sandwich is 8.50

instead of 7.50? she goes Yeah, If you order onions and grilled onions, they

charge you a dollar extra. Alright, whatever and I ate the uh cucumber

salad, I ate the uh mashed potatoes and the sandwich was good. I didnt touch

the fries though so I asked her to pack it up. And she goes- You want to pack

up the fries!? And I go Yeah! Yknow?

I was debating on what kind of a tip I was gonna give er cuz she was kinda

rude! And they didnt give me good service, and she was trying to rush me and

she wanted me to buy stuff. It was a twelve dollar tab, which Im not used to paying when I go out by

myself. So I gave her a couple bucks. I didnt know what was fair. I was

thinking about giving her a dollar. So I gave her a couplea dollars which isnt a

vote either way, but I dont think Im gonna go back there.

To walk into a place and automatically get hounded by the manager for taking

a little thing of popcorn is, its so wrong.

    15) Jerry debates about how much to tip the bartender because; 1) Shewas rude, 2) she didnt provide good service 3) she was trying to rushhim and 4) she was trying to get him to buy stuff.

    16) The tab was $14 total because the original tab was $12 and gave her$2 dollars as a tip (a couple of bucks).

    17) Jerry wont be going back to Henneseys because of the way theyreacted to him serving himself popcorn.

Step 8: Use it or Lose it. Diana's Description

Jerry starts his story by showing us his hand. It turns out that he has been

lifting weights in the gym and he has this huge blister on his hand. OUCH. I

guess he pinched his hand between some weights or something like that. It

    looked painful.

I have to say that he doesnt look like he works out three times a week

though. It must be all those junk food places like, Dunkin Donuts and Burger

King that are on the way home from the gym. Two weeks ago Jerry stopped at

a place called Henneseys Grill for the first time since it changed into a bar.

When he first went in, he stopped to look around. So much had changed since

he had last been there, especially since there was now a big bar in the middle

of the room and a popcorn machine in the corner.

Jerry went over to help himself to some popcorn, which he assumed was

complementary, but as he did the bartender and manager started talking and

thats when the bartender pointed over at him and said quite loudly, Whos

    that guy?

How rude can you get? I cant believe that the bartender would say something

like that to Jerry, especially since he is a potential customer. Anyways, the

manager went over to Jerry and Jerry explained that he hadnt been in the

place since it reopened and he didnt know that he couldnt help himself to

    popcorn.

The manager said it was ok and invited him to sit down and order something,

but I would like to know what happened to the popcorn. Did Jerry eat it or did

he put it back in the machine? Anyways, he sat down at the bar and the

bartender immediately came over and said, quite abruptly, Ok, whatll ya

    have?

Jerry didnt want a drink before his meal so he just asked for a minute to look

over the menu and while looking over the menu a group of guys came into the

    bar.

Now, even though Jerry ordered before them, that group of guys ended up

receiving their food before Jerry, which made him a bit mad, which I can

understand. The waitress didnt seem too interested in serving him that day at

    all.

To make matters worse when his food finally did arrive, 30 minutes later, he

didnt get the right order. The steak sandwich was right but he got fries

instead of mashed potatoes, cornbread and a cucumber salad.

Jerry asked her to check with the kitchen to see what was happening with his

side orders and she eventually brought them out, but still no corn bread. By

then he was getting pretty annoyed so he just said to forget about the bread.

Then he ordered a beer but the waitress gave him his tab instead. Talk about

bad service and it turned out to be a dollar more than he thought it would be.

The sandwich was $8.50 instead of $7.50. When he asked her why it was a

dollar more she said that it was a dollar for grilled onions in the sandwich.

Way to say that in the beginning lady.

In the end Jerry asked if he could get the fries packed up to go, which

surprised the waitress as he hadnt ordered them in the first place but she did

    it anyway.

Then Jerry had to figure out how much to tip her, which was hard because the

waitress was rude, kept trying to rush him and didnt give him what he

ordered. In the end he gave her 2 bucks and wasnt sure if that was fair but

he didnt care too much because she had been so rude about the popcorn. Not

to mention that fact that Jerry would not be returning to that bar again in the

    future.
