Principal’s Notes:
Advent Dinner and Worship-
Advent is a season of anticipation and preparation. We remember the coming of the King of Kings on that very first Christmas, as we get our hearts ready to remember and
rejoice. We also look in eager anticipation to when the King will come again.
During Advent we also have the joy of gathering together again in mid-week worship.
Join us for Mid-Week Worship:
Wednesday, December 6 Wednesday, December 13 Wednesday, December 20
These services will be at 7pm in the gym.
There will also be dinners offered for a free-will donation starting at 6pm in the gym. Men's Club will be cooking for THIS Wednesday's meal!
See you at 6pm for Advent Worship!
EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR AWARDS The following is from Glenn Gerber, Executive for the Southern District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod: Good Morning Everyone, Attached please find a picture of the Southern District Educators of the Year for 2017. The awards were presented at our 2017 Southern District Educators' Conference. They are as follows from left to right: Ms. Cherie Groth: Early Childhood: Atonement Lutheran School Mr. Doug Molin: Administrator: Atonement Lutheran School Ms. Emily Barlow: Elementary: Atonement Lutheran School Congratulation to them.
Just a note that it is very unusual to see a school win all three awards. We have three other current teacher of the year recipients from previous years and two other
teachers who have been nominated. ALS is blessed to have so many on its faculty who have
been recognized by our district: Mrs. Kelly Langston (Grade 3 Teacher), Mrs. Kelli Gremillion
(Grade 4 Teacher), and Mrs. Rachel Harney (Grade 6 Homeroom Teacher). In addition, Mr.
Doug Molin previously received the principal of the year award.
Our other nominees for the award have been Mrs. Tina Hellmers (Grade 1 Teacher) and Mr.
Chris LeBlanc (Grade 7 Homeroom Teacher/Assistant Principal).
The reason our school and is one of the top schools in our district and is strong is because of our
great faculty. We are truly blessed.
Chapel Offerings – 2nd Quarter
Chapel offerings for the 2nd Quarter have been designated for “natural disasters”. Many people
around the world have been affected in the past months, so this will be an opportunity for us to
serve them and share our blessings with those in need. We have chosen to focus on the people
affected by the hurricane in the Dominican Republic.
COOL/COLD WEATHER WEAR (school policy per the 2017-18 Handbook)
The following is permissible to be worn during cool/cold weather:
1. A white, black or gray turtleneck under a uniform shirt, sweatshirt, or jumper.
2. Tights and ankle length leggings (no skin showing) in white, gray, black, or maroon.
3. Sweatshirts (maroon) with the school emblem (non-emblem sweatshirts may be worn to and
from school/not in building); sweatshirts must be worn over a school uniform shirt/blouse. All
old gray sweatshirts have been eliminated from the uniform policy.
4. Maroon or gray cardigan sweater from uniform shop.
5. Uniform and non-uniform coats and jackets can be worn to-and-from school, when going to-
and-from the gym, lunch or recess, but may not be worn in the classroom.
Saints Dress Day this Thursday, December 7; students allowed to wear a Saints top, jeans,
and/or tennis shoes for a freewill chapel mission project donation; any part of the above
not worn means regular uniform pieces will be worn. As always, all shirts/tops must be in

judgment needed. CHRISTMAS WORSHIP SCHEDULE – PLEASE COME AND JOIN US
