much like the colonists did in New England.

• One person talks at a time and you must support the side you are given, even if you do not agree with it.

“Town Meeting”• We will participate in a mock town meeting,

much like the colonists did in New England.

“Town Meeting”Should we allow religious toleration

OR should we have one religion in our colony?

Massachusetts – Puritans

• Only men who were church goers could vote

• Laws were based in religion – Governor had most power

Connecticut

• Fundamental Orders of CT – all men could vote

• Governor was given less power – more like a representative government

Town Meeting Discussion• What are the

positives of holding a town meeting to discuss issues?

• What are possible downsides?

Sometimes discussing issues at a town meeting were not enough. You know that Connecticut breaks away from Massachusetts. Other issues were considered so

severe that they held trials!

• Read “Salem Witch Crisis: Summary” as a class.
