should enhance your message.

Let’s say I’m doing a speech on the

Earthquake in Japan• An 8.9-magnitude earthquake hit off the

east coast of Japan early today. • The quake -- one of the largest in recorded

history -- triggered a 23-foot tsunami that battered Japan's coast killing hundreds and sweeping away cars, homes, buildings, and boats.

• "This is the kind of earthquake that hits once every 100 years," said restaurant worker Akira Tanaka.

write “poster”• Doesn’t have to be complicated• Think “what would help the class best

understand my poem/poet?” • Think of some “out-of-the-box” ideas

Page 10: Wednesday, March 16

Your Speech Outline• How should it be different from your paper?

• Shorter• Less in-depth • Thesis may be more focused • Less formal diction and tone

• Citations • Don’t need to cite unless it adds validity to

your source.
