The ocean currents are one of the most powerful forces of nature on our planet. It has the power to alter our experience as a species on Earth dramatically. Moving against this current is in essence shifting a paradigm. A current can be in society as well as a social norm or societal habits. Moving against these changes status quo and allows people to be different, think different, and change the world. TEDxFSU is looking for individuals from a wide- range of experiences and perspectives to be part of this year’s TEDxFSU community. FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY SCHOOLS MIDDLE SCHOOL The Florida State University Schools (FSUS) middle school and high school track and field program is seeking tutors. The track and field program has been a powerhouse in the Big Bend for over a decade and now they are looking to become a powerhouse in the classroom by hiring 5 volunteer tutors to help facilitate their study hall sessions and provide top notch help for all of their student athletes. They need strong tutors in the subjects of Math, Science, English, Social Studies and Spanish. Study hall will be Monday through Thursday from 3:00pm to 4:00pm at FSUS. All tutors are required to have a 3.0 in their college courses and be in their second year or higher in college. FLORIDA STUDENT LEADERSHIP FORUM ON FAITH & VALUES

The 23rd Florida Student Leadership Forum in Tallahassee is hosting its annual gathering Friday, March 6 through Sunday, March 8 and registration is currently open at flslf.org. This forum provides the opportunity for students to interact with people from diverse backgrounds who desire to learn about servant leadership, specifically based on the model of Jesus Nazareth. It includes hearing from state leaders, a tour of the House Chambers in the Capitol, a community service project and time together in small groups. Please note there is a forum fee associated with attending and transportation is not included. The application is open, however submitting your application is encouraged as soon as possible. LIVING HARVEST The Living Harvest, Inc. is currently looking for dedicated individuals to volunteer at The Living Harvest Sharing Center. They are in the need of people who are team players, able to work on various tasks independently and be RELIABLE. They have several positions that they need covered on a consistent basis: Cashiers – ring customers out and maintain front counter area; Warehouse Workers – pull furniture to and from sales floor or warehouse, pick up donations; and Thrift Store Reps – work

closely with the Store Manager to correctly price and place items. They are also looking for someone who has a background in administration and knows how to use Constant Contact as well as filing paperwork in an organized manner. All volunteer positions require a high level of customer service and a positive attitude. NATIONAL COUNCIL ON U.S.-ARAB RELATIONS The Florida Regional Model Arab League invites you to participate in the 2015 Florida Regional Model Arab League, a debate-based simulation of the League of Arab States. This academic and leadership development experience is open to both high school and university students. The conference will be held in Tampa, FL at the University Area CDC, from March 19 to March 20

and fees are completely waived! Through participation in the Model Arab League program students develop essential skills from leadership and public speaking to critical thinking and writing, all while also gaining practical, immediate knowledge about a critical region – the Middle East and the Arab world. Forming a team for a Model Arab League conference does not have to be difficult! Whether led by a faculty adviser or student leaders, any size group of students may form a team and register online to receive a country assignment. Your team will then research its country's policies on the most important issues facing the Arab world and Middle East today, found in the MAL Agenda. Finally, you will practice the rules of debate found in the MAL Handbook before attending the conference. The National Council's staff stands ready to assist your team at every step. THE SCHOOL TURNAROUND PROJECT India For Transformation (IFT), and India based social enterprise established by four global pioneers from the fields of art, education, and experiential learning, are current accepting applications for the School Turnaround Project. The School Turnaround Project (STP) has been set up with the vision of transforming the level of impact a volunteering opportunity can bring to the volunteer as well as the audiences concerned. Participants will assume a Directorial role of a distressed school in India and will be equipped with a team, extensive mentoring support, some funds, and the decision making authority to rebuild the school’s entire ecosystem. BAGLADESHI GARMENT WORKERS SPEAK OUT AT FSU On Monday, February 23 at 12:00pm in the Globe Auditorium, Kalpona Akter (leader of Bangladesh Center for Worker Solidarity) and Mahinoor Begum will lead a worker tour. United Students Agaisnt Sweatshops is conducting a nationwide “End Deathtraps” worker tours. Mahinoor is a survivor of the Rana Plaza factory collapse that claimed the lives of over 1,100 Bangladeshi garment workers. Both will speak about the causes and consequences of deadly factory disasters in Bangladesh and their struggle to urge apparel brands to accept responsibility for safety conditions in their factories by signing the Bangladesh Safety Accord, a legally enforceable agreement that will transform the Bangladesh garment industry from deathtraps to safe workplaces. BRITISH SOCIETY FOR MIDDLE EASTERN STUDIES’ ANNUAL CONFERENCE

The British Society for Middle Eastern Studies’ (BRISMES) International Annual Conference will explore the theme of “liberation” in the Middle East. The conference will be held June 24 through June 26 at the London School of Economics. Paper and panel proposals on any aspect of liberation (and papers on any other theme) are welcomed. UNESCO CENTER FOR PEACE Over the course of two weeks, student-delegates learn from their peers about other cultures, societies and perspectives, and share their own unique views. They undertake workshops on global inequality, cultural diversity and conflict mediation, listen to diplomats and go on field trips to important landmarks in the DC metro area and New York City. UNESCO Center for Peace also gives training session on how to apply to US schools, taking the SATs and placement exams, finding the right school and applying for the right scholarships, and discussions on how to be peace builders in their societies. This position would work in the Two Week Summer Camp Program in Washington, DC from July 18 to August 3, 2015.

FLORIDA LIBRARY ASSOCIATION The Florida Library Association is looking for an Events and Membership Intern in Tallahassee, FL for a stipend of $400. The Events and Membership Intern will have the opportunity to attend the annual conference to assist and support the activities. The intern will also assist with the Florida Legislative Day. The conference is May 12 to May 15, 2015 at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida.
