Dear Parents and Carers, I hope this newsletter finds you well in this unprecedented time. I would like to thank you all for your help and assistance while necessary changes have been made at the school. Never, would I have imagined that we would be in a situation such as we are in now with people, businesses and basically the entire nation in isolation from a virus that has engulfed the world. This situation is affecting everybody. To the students at our school, I thank you for being so adaptable in being prepared to try new things such as online learning, emails and group “Zoom” conferences. To our parents and carers, thank you for your patience as we try and learn and develop new technologies to provide your children with educational opportunities to work from home. The staff at Rocky River have worked tirelessly to learn and embrace new approaches to learning and administration, approaches that are vastly different from the way in which we implement teaching and learning in the usual way. We have provided work for students to complete for the rest of the term. These packages will arrive in the mail at the end of this week. If the situation continues into next term, we will also provide more structured work for them to complete at home for the first few weeks of Term 2. Please know, that we are planning work with you as their parents in mind. We appreciate that you are not school teachers and therefore we are trying to provide leaning for students during this time, that is accessible but also somewhat challenging for their growth and development. We have been asked by the NSW Department of Education to keep in regular contact with our students, so please try and have your children attend the daily “Zoom” conferences every day. We have implemented a roster for staff “on site” at Rocky River each day. The remaining staff are working from home. I thank you all again for your patience whilst we have put in place arrangements for your child’s learning to continue. I trust you will all have a safe Easter break and we look forward to working with you and your children in Term 2, in whatever way that may look like. Take Care, Brad Hunt—Principal

Stewart House operations and fundraising have closed for now so they have suspended their
annual donation drive. Envelopes went home with our last newsletter so they are asking that you
hold on to these and they will try to get it up and running again by Term 4. Thank you to those
students who have already returned their envelopes, they can be kept safely until the donation
drive resumes.

Rocky River P&C Information Whole School Activities
As part of our Harmony Day activities Mr Hunt wrote all of our students names in Japanese and they
had fun copying them and decorating them in their own way. Miss Brien read a book called I’m
Australian Too by Mem Fox.
The Upper Division classroom has now
been transformed into a learning from
home headquarters with all teachers and
support staff involved in putting together
packs for students to access at home.
Students are accepting this new learning
well and are “Zooming” with their teach-
ers on a daily basis.
Together we can get through
this!
Over the past couple of weeks the LD Students have been doing some hands on Volume and Capacity
lessons with Miss Brien, all students commenced cross country training and all students were fortunate
to be a part of the Pet Program visit to our school.
