I’m originally from Arkansas, born in Little Rock and raised in Rogers. Jay is from Seattle. With friends and family all over the country, we decided Arkansas was a central gathering place. Since this was the first time many of them had ever been to the state, I wanted to showcase what I love about it.

A warm and easygoing attitude, natural beauty, flowers and fields. We chose Pratt Place Inn for the ceremony and its barn for the reception for that reason—it’s a mix of classic and casual. The food we served at the reception was regional as well, like catfish fingers, pulled pork sandwiches, fried dill pickles, and a carving station with beef and chicken. Plus we had a local bluegrass band play for part of the reception.

The burlap runners on top of red tablecloths looked great in the barn, with jars of flowers set on each table and paper lanterns suspended above at different heights for soft lighting. My goal for the flowers was for them to look as if we had walked through the field outside the barn and snatched them up, and then put them in mason jars as vases. I carried red carnations in my bouquet, because that’s the first kind of flower Jay brought me when we were dating. Shirley’s Flowers pulled it all together, and came up with the floral con-cept for the arbor, which became the focal point of the ceremony.

It was a bit impromptu, and Jay’s reaction was priceless. At the end of my vows, I told Jay that I promised to always laugh at his jokes as long as they’re funny. All of our family and friends know how often he tells jokes, so it was a shared moment they found funny as well.

My mother found them for me at Dillard’s and they were luckily a great fit. Red is a favorite of mine—my engagement ring is a ruby. I even love red velvet cake, and we had two layers of it plus vanilla and chocolate in the tiered wedding cake.

That length seemed fun and lighthearted to me, special but not too for-mal. I couldn’t find the dress I was envisioning, so I had it made by a designer I know in New York. But the most practical rea-son for that length is that we made our getaway after the reception on a motorcycle. Jay has always owned one, and it seemed fitting that we rent one to drive off on that night.

Yes, the shoes took care of the blue part, my dress was new, and I wore my mother’s earrings and Buddy’s grandmother’s bracelet, which were both borrowed. All of the Harding women have worn the pearl bracelet on their wedding day and it was really special to wear it as my “something old.” The shoes were one of the first things I chose; they’re Christian Louboutin, and I found them even before the dress.

Buddy and I began seriously talking about marriage when I was living in St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. My roommate and I began to plan our dream weddings when we were working there. I wanted a beach wedding, but I wanted it to be in Little Rock because home and family are so very important to both Buddy and me. So instead of a beach location, we tried for the airy and effortless feel of the beach. Using my favorite flower, the blue hydrangea, with other flow-ers in shades of blue and purple, tied in an ocean feel to the beach theme. We worked with Tipton Hurst on the concept, and they executed it beautifully.

Simple but with some very dramatic details was our goal. Dramatic from the full length cathedral train on my veil and the simple drama of my gown, to the reception with a canopy of georgette fabric with candles and flowers lining the entryway, to all of the walls draped in ivory fabric, to the tall, beautiful—and delicious—cake, to the tower-ing floral arrangements, to the 12-foot-tall draped tent outside, to the eight-foot-long lighted bar inside with the large “H” ice sculpture.

The cake caught people’s attention when they first entered. It was white cake with cream cheese icing, covered in Belgian white chocolate curls. The groom’s cake had two square layers of chocolate with marbleized chocolate curl straws. And we had blue Waterford crystal glasses for our toast.

My wedding coordinator, Dawne Vandiver, advised me to try to find one particular moment that I wanted to be sure to remember and focus on it. For me, it was when I was walking down the aisle with my father; I felt so calm and Buddy was waiting for me. I’ll remember that feeling forever. Paying attention to that special moment was a great piece of advice.

I originally wanted a rustic woodland look to comple-ment the location at Garvan Woodland Gardens, but then I was naturally drawn to the vintage silhouette of my dress and went from there. The color palette was Jim’s idea. I’d driven him crazy for weeks suggesting new color schemes, so he finally designed the invites with a palette he chose himself. I think he nailed it! After we decided on Hot Springs and learned about its history of gangsters and social clubs, Jim wanted the stationery to evoke that aesthetic of marquee signs and tuxedos. The pink helped to modernize and energize the look. The dahlias were hand-drawn, and then we repeated them in our table settings and on the cake.

Flowers were a natural design choice for our botani-cal garden ceremony and vintage-glamour aesthetic. We put together the centerpieces ourselves, but in the whirlwind of events it became clear we wouldn’t be able to do justice to the other arrangements as planned. Hot Springs Florist & Gifts came through like a dream with a beautiful mix of pink and white roses for the bouquets, boutonnieres and corsages. I found the idea for the cake on MarthaStewart.com. The bright pink dahlias make a strong enough statement without needing much else. The cake was red velvet too, which added another pop of color to contrast the white frosting.

It isn’t an heirloom, but it is vintage. I am a big lover of vintage, if you can’t tell. I scoured Etsy for vintage rhinestone brooches for the bridesmaids to wear with their silver dresses and picked that one up for myself since it’s reminiscent of wedding rings. I decided to pin it to the bouquet at the last minute.

A week before the wedding, we—Jim, my maid-of-honor, her mother and I—made 75 jars of homemade strawberry jam. Jim cut the tags for the jam jars out of watercolor paper and spent a few days before the wed-ding hand-lettering each guest’s name on the tags. Then we tied the nametags to the jars with ribbon.

Jim and I live in Brooklyn, New York, and our families are in Rhode Island and Texas, so finding a location that would work for all of our family and friends was a challenge. I was born and raised in Arkansas, though, and loved the thought of getting married where I grew up, and visiting Anthony Chapel and Garvan Gardens sealed the deal. We did a tree-planting ritual during our ceremony and had it planted in the gardens so our little tree will be growing in the place we were married for years to come.

I knew that I wanted a fall wedding that would represent Lee and me in every way possible. After the location, the next step was designing the invitations. We wanted our look to be cohesive, so setting the mood with the paper products seemed like the best plan. Kandace Gerber, our graphic designer, incorporated our initials with an apple as a monogram, so we ran with it and tried to incorporate it in as many details as possible.

We chose fall because it’s our favorite time of year, the amazing weather and the beautiful foliage. Since we were having an outdoor ceremony, I knew the natural canvas of Eden Isle would already be provided and the colors of fall made it into my color palette.

I have always had an interest in fashion and believe the bridesmaids’ dresses play a huge role in the overall style of the wedding. I started with the color trends for fall 2009 and it turned out that the beautiful teal color of our invitation envelopes was going to be all over the runways. I immediately enlisted the help of Jeanne Johansson of Scarlet to help me find the perfect dresses.

I wanted something that projected my personality and that was timeless and chic. It had to work for an outdoor wedding and of

course be one I could dance in. I ended up finding a gorgeous lace Marissa gown with elegant scalloped lacing along the neck, back and hem.

My best friend for as long as I can remember has been my big sister—she’s one of the most fashion-forward and talented individuals I know. When planning my wedding ensemble, I thought it best to have her special touch. She made me a one-of-a-kind pair of earrings from her jewelry line, Emporium, as well as earrings for the bridesmaids, junior bridesmaids and flower girl.

Many of our close friends were married the same year we were, which made finding an original location a little difficult. We wanted something that was special and unique to us, so when Lee mentioned his mother’s backyard on Greers Ferry Lake, I knew it would be perfect. Logistically, it was a little difficult having an out of town wedding, but it was well worth it.

Adam Smith, my florist, sprayed calla lillies and other fall berries for a copper look and added chrysanthemums and succulents for texture.

The ride from the ceremony to the reception! We had a caravan of golf carts set up so our entire wedding party could go to the reception together. We were surrounded by all of our friends, all the planning and orchestrating was done, and Lee and I were finally husband and wife.

First of all, we love Christmas and the holidays. I love big and bold but executed with a simple and elegant touch. So I chose shades of red, purple and pink, which are warm, beautiful and fun. At the church, the flow-ers were white calla lilies, very simple and elegant. The Christmas decorations were still up as well, which made everything that much better.

Craig and I envisioned old Hollywood glamour. We picked all the things we’re naturally drawn to and put them together in a way that created that feel and style.

Craig’s mom, Becky Cook. I like when things have a special meaning. It was a four-tier white cake with but-tercream icing, then decorated with flowers.

It was the first one I tried on! Feathers, beads, sequins and jewels—it has my personality all over it, which I think is very important because you want to be yourself on your wedding day. As Craig can tell you, I can be a little dramatic, so it was ideal. Even though it had a lot going on, the silhouette was simple, which is key when you have all that fun stuff.

I don’t know if it started out as a goal, but it ended up playing a huge role. I love all the textures that flowers entail and peacock feathers add a texture that is a little unexpected. Phil Cato of About Vase is the best and I talked to him about what I wanted and he made it come to life. I like to be daring and differ-ent. I think I was born wearing feathers; I adore them.

It was my grandmother’s locket. Nanny loved Craig. One day she looked at me and said I should wear it on our wedding day. A week later my nanny passed away. The locket has a picture of both her and my grandfather inside.

Since we are performers, we knew our first dance had to stand out. It was to “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You,” and it was so much fun. We choreographed it with turns, dips and all that jazz. A wedding is no different than a four-hour show where you are the stars. What can I say? It was wonderful!

It made things a little more complicated. We’re both from Missouri, but Jared was based in Fayetteville as a recruiter at the time. And we knew we would be moving to California after the wedding. My family and I were traveling around Northwest Arkansas and we visited Eureka Springs and Thorncrown Chapel. I loved the all-glass chapel; it’s so unique and you feel nestled in the woods. We decided that Eureka Springs would be a good location—it would be a destination trip for our friends and family in Missouri and could include our Northwest Arkansas friends as well.

The main element was that I knew Jared and his friends would be in uniform—and the uniforms are so intricate, with metals and patches indicating what rank they are and how long they’ve been in the military. I didn’t want to take away from that; I wanted to enhance it. The uniforms are navy with red and yellow, so I chose a rich bright red and a light subtle yellow for the accents. I chose canary yellow dresses for the bridesmaids and the flowers were a mix of red, yellow and blue. We chose a traditional setting for the reception, the Basin Park Hotel, which is such a classic place, with wood floors and big windows. The hotel’s stained glass windows had red and yellow panes as well.

The dress was the first thing I found. I thought that I wanted something very simple, with no embellishments, but I ended up with something completely different. It was beaded and featured antique lace, a very long train and a ruffled skirt. When I tried it on, I felt it was just right and I knew Jared would love it.

I love sweets and I definitely a wanted a really nice, simple cake. We chose one with four layers of Bavarian cream and strawberry cream accented with fresh rose petals. It was white cake with buttercream frosting, and the strawberry gave it a little bit of zest.

The sword ceremony leaving the chapel is a very traditional part of a Marine Corps wedding. Marines stand in formation across from each other, and the set of marines in front of the bride and groom lower their swords until the bride and groom kiss. Then they lift their swords and the couple moves to the next set of marines and swords and kiss again. When the bride and groom arrive at the last set, the marine behind the bride says a short speech welcoming her to the Marine Corps and then gives her a quick tap with his sword, signifying that she’s officially in.
