THE GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARKA Wondrous Diversity of LifeRidge upon ridge of forest straddles the border between North Carolina and Tennessee in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. World renowned for its diversity of plant and animal life, the beauty of its ancient mountains, and the quality of its remnants of Southern Appalachian mountain culture, this is America’s most visited national park.

MOUNTAIN BIKINGThis is our favorite place to ride! Let us know if you are interested in going and we’ll look into group rates. We will probably be out most everyday, weather permitting.

WHITE WATER RAFTINGOn Friday we will be rafting the Nantahala River. The cost ise $34.99/person for half-day (4hrs) guide-assisted or $44.99/person for guided trips. Both guide-assisted and guided rafts can be in the same group, so chose which ever you would feel most comfortable. This is a class II-III river, with an age restriction of 7yrs. It is a good option for anyone who has never been rafting before, but fun enough for those who have!

Drive Carefully!

!DIRECTIONS TO OUR CABINWhen you turn on Hwy 28N you will cross over the Nantahala River where it runs into Fontana Lake. After the bridge, look for left-turning lanes and you are going to take the third one. It is about a mile or so and you will see the Freeman’s Hotel & Cottages, Almond Post Offi ce, and Turkey Creek Campground on the right. Directly across the street will be a street called Round Top Rd. Turn left here (this is the aforementioned third left turn deceleration lan). Note your odometer reading for reference and head up Round Top Rd for about 2.2 miles to the cabin. There will be some intersections so follow these directions:Go through the security gate with the gate code #3154 and remember to press the pound key fi rst (if problems arise, you may dial the alphabetical directory to “Watershed-Night” and it will try to reach someone)Immediately after the gate, stay to the right, as there is a paved driveway on the left that is private with house numbersAt 6/10 mi you will pass a left turn (Freeman Overlook). Keep going straight and up the mountain. At 9/10 mi see a right turn that is level (Upper Turkey Branch Rd), but you want to instead go uphill u-turn to the left. At 1.1 miles there is a fork in the road (West Round Top), stay left on Round Top Rd. At 1.5 miles you will pass a street on the right for Bee Gum Ridge and then immediately one on the left (Shiner’s Ridge). You keep following Round Top Rd going forward and around to the right even though it appears you are heading downhill. Pass Musket on the left and then watch for the next street on the right. Take this fork up to the right called DOUBLETREE LANE. Keep going until you pass Birch Street, soon thereafter you will see our cabins on the hill up to the right (except when foliage is very dense). Do NOT try to go up the steep gravel driveway. Instead, stay on the pavement until it ends, then follow the gravel around and back to the cabin. Once on the gravel road take the fi rst turn WIDE, then you will pass one driveway on your right (a future construction site). Here you will see boulders separating our land from a US Forest Service trail…. Great for hiking and biking.

Fontana View 3 is the fi rst cabin on the left (3 level cabin with green tin roof). Fontana View2 is the second cabin (brown tin roof) and Fontana View1 is the fi nal, smaller cabin (bright red tin roof). Park at your convenience at your cabin. This gravel road leads back down to the pavement for exit.
