Notice Of Annual General MeetingNotice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting of the VHRR will be held on Tuesday August 23 2016 at 8pm at the clubrooms in Lexton Road, Box Hill. Nominations are called for the Executive positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary and six positions on the General Committee. Please consider putting your name forward.Honorary SecretaryNot to be missed! How would you like to take your Significant Other out for a warm social night in a great setting with good food, good company, plenty of free parking and drinks provided and all for only $60/head?You would? Well here’s your chance - Highlight Saturday 10th December in your calendar. This is the day and date for this year’s Annual VHRR Christmas Dinner and Awards Night.Vale: Peter CohanPeter Cohan passed away recently. Peter and wife Case were early members of the VHRR and owned the following:Ex-Pile MG TC Supercharged Monoposto, the last MG to win a point in the Australian Gold Star, and usually driven by Ian Wells.A Stanguellini Formula junior, the JSR a Ford Mercury Special amongst others.Peter and his wife Case (who sadly predeceased him) were very much a motorsport family with Case racing a Formula Vee for many years..The couple hosted our VHRR Christmas function each year at Calmot, Eltham, a magnificent property, and as membership grew, VHRR needed a larger venue. Members always looked forward to each years function and the hospitality. A private cremation and celebration have been held.Vale: Peter Thomas - passed away peacefully 12/7/2016. The VHRR Committee and members express their sincere condolences to his family.Sorry to hear about Peter, I knew he had been sick for a while so to die in peace was the best. So two Peters this month. They gave a lot to start historic racing. Peter C was never the quickest but he was always there supporting and always would have a joke. He knew historic racing very very well. Peter T: well, what he didn’t know about MG TCs! He even knew the weight of every nut and bolt. His chassis are most rigid

and strongest around. Both helped to bring historic racing in Australia to the level we now enjoy. Yours in motorsport, Greg MarrinerVale: Peter Briese - passed away 5/7/2016 after a long illness. Known especially for his help as Scallywags Socks with Historic Winton. Our sincere condolences to Beverley and family. On a very wet and wintry Friday, what better place to be indoors than that of Loel and Bryan Thomson’s, ‘The Costume Collection’ in Bulleen. Thirty members, wives and friends attended this amazing collection of fashions and clothing over the years. Loel began the tour with her talk of how fashions and the different materials have evolved over hundreds of years, it was a very enlightening talk, one that everyone found most interesting. We then moved into the main part of, what I called a museum, as it was a step back in time trying to take in the marvelous display, it is a real credit to Loel for all the effort that she has put into the collection. It was then Bryan’s turn as we moved down stairs to the collection of classic motor bikes and cars which are set out in a large showroom, a real ‘big boy’s toys shed’. Bryan showed his collection of memorabilia from his racing days, of which there was plenty. A show of appreciation was given by all, and then it was off to the ‘Old England Hotel’ for a Xmas in July lunch, which was very ‘yummy’ indeed. Cheers for now, Simmo.4th September, a trip to Kyneton arriving 10.00 am sharp at the Smith families Auto etc. Museum. Morning tea on arrival, cost, a note to a charity. The top floor dining room at the Albion hotel is booked for 12.30 pm for lunch. It is Kyneton Daffodil & Arts Festival time.Details & must book with Ron Townley ~ 03 5988 4846 or in the unlikely event the mobile is on 0418 999 576.September 24th - Visit to Terry Dowel’s MuseumSaturday September 24th - 10.30am to 2.30 pm. Terry’s museum is located in the Guys Hill area of Beaconsfield. Terry competes in hillclimbs and sprints, including Geelong. His company regularly sponsors the Victorian Hillclimb Championship and assists the VHRR with product sponsorship at Phillip Island. The museum is not open to the public and our ‘His & Her’ numbers are limited to about 100.

Referred to previously as Terry’s shed was incorrect. Sheds don’t usually have lifts, nor do they have replica 1950’s style cafes with seating for maybe 50 people. The adjoining pre-war grocer’s shop is large and filled with appropriate product memorabilia, and the library even has copies of old Girls Own Annuals, pre and post-war newspapers & a couple of lounge areas. Other upstairs features are time consuming. Items of possible interest for “Her” include Bette Davis’ 1966 Cadillac or Dame Nellie Melba’s 1890 Phantom chariot conveniently parked under a very nice multi point chandelier.Bookings essential:Lloyd Shaw ~ 0415 351 164.There will be a designated area at Winton Long Track in August 2016 for anyone that would like to display their race or road cars that are for sale. The last remaining Buchanan Cobra is for sale, Offers invited. My 1959 Buchanan Cobra on the market and sensible offers from interested enthusiasts at around 25K. are invited.

The Buchanan Cobra was produced as a turnkey sports by Nat Buchanan of Buchanan Motors in 1958/9. The Cobra was designed to take on the Austin Healey Sprite on its release in 1958. The Cobra however according to legend was thirteen pounds dearer, thirteen pounds heavier and thirteen miles per hour slower. Not a recipe for success. This Cobra is assumed to be the last remaining complete and going example of the marque. It is the only Buchanan Cobra with a racing history. The Car was originally Log Booked by David Rose of Sydney prior to 1987 after he discovered the car in a paddock in Queanbeyan. It was being used as a paddock bomb when he found it. He restored the car and log booked it initially in 1987 as an Sa Production Sports car under 1200cc.In my hands since 2005 and has competed in Regularity events at Phillip Island, Sandown and Winton. It has been regularly run at Hillclimbs and sprints. The Cobra has been developed since I acquired it in 2005 and has recently undergone a repaint, an engine rebuild by Ian Tate which included forged pistons, fresh modified crank and numerous updates of its internals and is putting out in the vicinity of 100BHP at the flywheel of its Triumph Herald/Spitfire 1200 motor. It also has a Mk 4 Spitfire synchro 4 speed box and Standard 10 front and rear ends with drum brakes all around.I am arriving at the stage where I can’t do justice to the potential of this great little car. It is reluctantly placed on the market to find a new home.Paul Schilling 0419 917 765 or [email protected] or for further info.Pics available for every stage of development.
