Finding Easter in Bunnies & Baskets … If you have walked through store aisles lately, you’ve seen many reminders that Easter is coming. What isn’t so obvious is that, for Christians, Easter is truly the most significant day of the year. At the store, we find baskets and eggs as symbols of Easter, instead of a cross and an empty tomb. We find a bunny that brings candy instead of a Savior who brings life. Is it any wonder that our children and grandchildren are more excited about the coming of the Easter Bunny than about the coming of God’s kingdom? We spend many days on egg-coloring and baskets but focus on Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection for only one hour on Sunday morning. Even as adults, we look forward to those Brach’s jelly beans, Cadbury eggs and Her- shey’s filled chocolate eggs of all kinds placed on the shelves of stores as soon as the Valentine hearts are marked down. You may recall a Children’s Sermon using Easter eggs filled with meaningful items that told the true story of Easter. The Easter Bunny can tell the same story. Real Easter Bunnies: Are White as Snow because Jesus takes all sin away (Isaiah 1:18b) Are Gentle, kind-hearted and forgiving (Ephesians 4:32) Have Big Ears that are quick to listen (James 1:19) Have Big Eyes to look carefully and choose what is good (1 Thessalonians 5:21) Have No Voice for complaining or arguing (Philippians 2:13) Are Quiet in Prayer, but hop with thanksgiving and rejoicing (Philippians 4:4-6) Have Big Feet to go tell others about Jesus so they can be like Easter bunnies, too (Matthew 28: 19-20) Eat What is Healthy by filling up on God’s word every day (Psalm 119:11) So as you walk through the aisles of Walmart, Target or Rural King this Easter season look for the real meaning of Easter in the hearts of the people you meet and let others witness it in YOU! Finding Easter in Bunnies & Baskets …

If you have walked through store aisles lately, you’ve seen many reminders that Easter is coming. What isn’t so obvious is that, for Christians, Easter is truly the most significant day of the year. At the store, we find baskets and eggs as symbols of Easter, instead of a cross and

an empty tomb. Even as adults, we look forward to those Brach’s jelly beans, Cadbury eggs and Her-shey’s filled chocolate eggs of all kinds placed on the shelves of stores as soon as the Valentine hearts are marked down. You may recall a Children’s Sermon using Easter eggs filled with meaningful items that told the true story of Easter. The Easter Bunny can tell the same story. Real Easter Bunnies: Are White as Snow because Jesus takes all sin away (Isaiah 1:18b) Are Gentle, kind-hearted and forgiving (Ephesians 4:32) Have Big Ears that are quick to listen (James 1:19) Have Big Eyes to look carefully and choose what is good (1 Thessalonians 5:21) Have No Voice for complaining or arguing (Philippians 2:13) Are Quiet in Prayer, but hop with thanksgiving and rejoicing (Philippians 4:4-6) Have Big Feet to go tell others about Jesus so they can be like Easter bunnies, too

(Matthew 28: 19-20) Eat What is Healthy by filling up on God’s word every day (Psalm 119:11) So as you walk through the aisles of Walmart, Target or Rural King this Easter season look for the real meaning of Easter in the hearts of the people you meet and let others witness it in YOU!

164th Homecoming Celebration

Sunday, April 28 at 10:30 a.m.

Carry-In Dinner to follow

Homecoming—what does it mean to you? When we return to our former schools for homecoming activi-ties it is a chance for us to return to our educational roots and reconnect and reminisce with our school-mates. Church Homecomings should be no differ-ent. Homecoming should be a chance for past mem-bers to reconnect with our members today. Home-coming 2019 will be that chance to reconnect with members from the past. When I was growing up in the church there were 4 main families: Ides, Roll-ers, Mosses, and McKaigs. This year I have asked a former member from each of these families to come and share stories about growing up in Webb Chapel and how it affected their lives. We still have church members from each of these families. So I invite out current members to come and hear about Webb Chapel 40—60 years ago. I invite former members to come back for Homecom-ing and see who is representing each of these fami-lies and what they have to share. Come and join in this celebration of God’s continuing work in His Church. Join us at 10:30 a.m. on April 28th for the service and plan to stay and reconnect over dinner with past and present mem-bers Ed McKaig, Jr.

Wonderful Women of

These Webb Chapel Women did it again! With only a few days to plan, prepare and serve, the Women of Webb (W3) served dinner to the McKaig family and friends on Friday, March 22. Thank you for donat-ing desserts and salads, helping prepare the other food and drink, serving and cleaning up afterward. It was a busy week just before the school’s spring break and Webb hosting the Men’s Lenten break-fast the following morning but it all worked out great. Thanks to everyone for your part in making the dinner a success.

Esther McKaig received an invitation for induc-tion into the Pioneer Sr-High National Honor Society.

Sarah Eckert received an invitation for induction into the Pioneer Jr-Sr High National Honorary Society. This makes 3 inductees from Webb Chapel! The for-mal induction ceremony will be on Wednesday, April 3 at 6:00pm.

Ja’Shon Burks & Pioneer Choir for winning Grand Champion in the choral contest at Universal

Studio over spring vacation! Esther McKaig was a member of that choir! Photo on March Photo Page!

Ask just about anybody you know if they are kind, and most likely their answer will be, YES. We all know kind people that are both Christians and non-Christians. So when the Bible talks about being kind, what is God talking about? What sets us a part from just any-one else? What looks different

about Godly kindness? Join us beginning March 3rd as we begin “The Heart of Kindness”.

Kid’s Club starts up again after a week off during the school’s Spring Break, meeting every Wednesday from April 3 to May 8, our final day of this school year. While you might be tempted to skip a day or two if the weather is nice, just remember that Franklin’s 1st, 2nd & 3rd grad-ers are looking forward to you being there to help them with their homework, assist with one of Marla’s meaning-ful crafts or paint, do a puzzle, play a game or just chat with them plus you don’t want to miss one of Marla’s great stories! Kids’ Club is the perfect time for YOU to get in some discipleship hours that will impact these kid’s lives and yours too!

Webb Chapel Men Serve BIG Len-

ten Breakfast!

The Webb Chapel men (Alvin Beck-man, Steve Nice, Justin Nice, Matt Zeigler, Jacob Zei-gler, Dave Rance, Jeff Sedam, Caleb Sedam, Maurice Frantz, Ted Speicher, Eric Regan, Ed McKaig, Tom McIntosh and Pastor Nate) served a “Man-sized” Break-fast to 85 Cass County men on Saturday, March 23rd at 6:29 am! They had to get up really early to prepare all of the pancakes, sausage links, scrambled eggs and fresh fruit plus lots of coffee and fruit juices. Neither attend-ance nor food consumption were lessened by the onset of Spring Break at area schools and they actually exceeded by 5 the attendance at Crosswinds the previous Saturday! Adam Speicher gave the message for the morning and Ed McKaig led praise songs. At this time the men are not certain if they will host next year as the list has only one opening and they are not sure if it is reserved for Webb Chapel. These men do have a good plan for serving larger groups and are well organized with Tom McIntosh and Alvin Beckman as co-chairmen. AND THEY LEFT THE KITCHEN SPOTLESS!

On May 15th we have a Happy Burger Chicken Bash scheduled. Tickets will go on sale the middle of April. The money making project will be held at Webb Chapel. Tickets will be $10 for adults and $5 for children. Webb will need to provide 10 workers the night of the event. Carry-out service will be available. A bake sale in conjunc-tion with the Chicken Bash will be determined in April. It does seem like an ideal time to use the baking talents of Webb to enhance our finances. The profit will go to the fund needing it the most. This will be determined by the finance committee. Just a friendly reminder to check the side ditches in your area for cans before weeds and grass grow high. Price now is thirty-five cents per pound. When you walk or ride a bicycle to stay in shape, carry a bag for the cans. It works for me and our roads. I even find cans mush-room hunting in the woods. If you camp, check the sur-

rounding area and boat launching areas. Happy hunting!

Trustee News /March 2019

THANK YOU!

The trustees would like to thank Ed McKaig for get-ting the water softening salt for the church. We also appreciate Norma Speicher's decorating expertise with the inspirational decorating at the east door of the church and Mary Ann Rusk’s with the table decora-tions in the fellowship hall. THANK YOU, ladies.

And other Trustee news...

The speakers in the sanctuary have not been operat-ing. Steve Nice is meeting with a sound man this week to see what the issue is.

Again we thank Steve and Justin for their time and energy removing snow on March 17th. Think posi-tive--spring temps will come and stay soon, we hope!

Homecoming and Easter will be here in April. If you see a cleaning or repair job that needs attention and can do it, that would be great. If you don't have the time, energy, or ability to do it, please contact any trustee. REMEMBER, you do not need to be a trustee to help with projects at the church or par-sonage.

Elizabeth (Betty) J. McKaig

August 14, 1918-March 16, 2019

Elizabeth (Betty) J. McKaig, 100, of Logansport & Webb Chapel United Method-ist Church, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the McKinney House in Logansport. Born on August 14, 1918 in Cass County, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late James E and Laura (Bechdol) Martin. On June 19, 1944 in Port Oxford, Oregon, she married Edward E. McKaig who preceded her in death on July 22, 1995.

Betty was a homemaker. She was a member of Webb Chapel United Methodist Church. Betty taught piano for many years and volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the United Methodist Women and Literacy Volunteers.

Surviving are three sons, Edward E. (Janice) McKaig, Jr of Logansport, IN; Robert E. (Sandra) McKaig of Lo-gansport, IN; Roger M. (Linda) McKaig of Logansport, IN; two daughters, Maureen (Ron) Cook of Peru, IN; Patty (Ron) Collins of Morgantown, IN; one brother, Hobart Martin of Plymouth, IN; Fifteen Grandchildren Matthew (Michelle) McKaig, Mark (Tanya) McKaig, Christy (Paul) Rupert, Angela (Jeff) Brooke, Darren (Sarah) McKaig, Marie (Kent) Kohlhagen, Kelley McKaig, Abbie McKaig, Suzie McKaig, Daniel McKaig, Es-ther McKaig, Holly (Andy) Tyler, Andrew (Carlee) Cook, Randy Collins, Jaci (Matt) Beecher and 24 Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Webb Chapel United Methodist Church Missions Fund or the Cass County 4-H Memorial Scholarship Fund. (from printed obituary)

More Facts & Memories ...

Betty taught school for 5 years and taught piano lessons for 20-25 years. Betty’s membership began on Novem-ber 23, 1947 and lasted for 71 years. Betty, with the help of her young grandchildren, delivered Meals on Wheels in Logansport a few years ago. She also was a tutor for Literacy Volunteers teaching others to read and she sponsored the “Chapel Bells” for the LV Adult Spell Bee. Betty was active with the 4-H program in Cass County as her children were growing up, serving on the 4-H Foods Committee and helping in the Community Center during the Fair. Betty was responsible for setting up a Memorial 4-H Scholarship through the Cass Coun-ty Community Foundation.

Being the wife of a dairy farmer, Betty spent much of her time cooking for the family, doing laundry and clean-ing house. She was a great cook who willingly shared her recipes with others.

Betty was organist and pianist for Webb Chapel often playing the organ while Mildred Moss played the piano during Sunday worship services. She was active in the women’s organization at church serving in many capaci-ties. She was also a great recruiter for church membership. When a new family moved into the area (Noble township mostly but boundaries didn’t limit her!) she and her sister-in-law, Mary Kay McKaig, made sure they were invited to Webb Chapel.

Records indicate that she taught school for 5 years but she also “rescued” Pioneer (actually Noble Township) for a semester or maybe a whole year back in 1968 when they were in need of a music teacher. One year was enough and she was happy to go back to being a dairy farmer’s wife!

Few, if any people who knew Betty, family included, ever heard her speak a bad word about anyone or display a fit of temper! She loved everyone! In her later years, her eyesight and hearing limited her ability to do the things she loved most and leaving her home in Noble township to reside in a health care facility was difficult. She was a wonderful Christian lady and friend who lived a long life in her favorite place—close to her children, grandchil-dren and great grandchildren. She’s now back with Ed, serving the Lord in Heaven but still keeping watch over the farm!

† Doug Weese is back home and back in the

pews for one Sunday. He is still having back pain, undergoing physical therapy, and not quite

back “up to snuff” yet. He still needs our prayers.

† JoEllen Snyder’s sister, June Stafford, passed away on Feb-

She needs to raise $6000 to cover her expenses for the nine months and is ask-ing for item donations to a money making yard sale she has planned for April 6. Information is posted at the church.

† Alvin Beckman actually had 2 shoes on this past Sunday.

Preparing and serving a Lenten Breakfast to 85 men must have helped with the healing. Do keep him in your prayers for continued healing. When your feet hurt, your whole body doesn’t feel great!

† Carl Simons had a great 90th Birthday celebration on Satur-

day, March 2nd. However, as he and his best friend, “Nutter” were playing a day or two later, Carl tripped and cracked his pelvis. This put him in the hospital and then in rehab. He is currently at Miller’s Merry Manor; Room 120, receiving therapy for one or two weeks. His cell phone number is 574 702-2775 and he enjoys visits and calls! Pray for quick healing so he can get back home with his best friend!

† The Bob McKaig family (Bob, Sandra, Esther & Daniel)

† Former Webb member, Shannon Barr continues to

have infection problems following earlier heart sur-gery. Keep him and his family in your prayers as he struggles to stay alive.

† During the morning service on March 10 Eric Regan

shared his story of dependency and it’s effect on his life before he turned to God for help that brought about change. Praise the Lord for helping Eric share this time in his life with us. He reported that between 20 & 30 members of NA (Narcotics Anonymous) are meeting at Webb Chapel each Saturday evening. We are so blessed to have Eric and his sons in Webb’s pews.

† Rumor is that the Pettet’s are on their way back to In-

diana and should be in their pew on the 31st! Hope they are prepared for daylight savings time and colder, grayer conditions!

† Amy Nice’s sister, Joyce Randall, passed away unex-

pectedly on March 15th. Keep Amy and family in your prayers.

† Theresa McIntosh’s brother-in-law passed away re-

cently, also. Pray for her sister Chris and family also.

† Penny Bannon continues to be spirited and wear a

smile as she busies herself helping with Courtney’s family in Louisville while being concerned for Bob’s health at home. Be a listening ear to comfort her.

† Diann Sedam extends an invitation to Webb Chapel to

attend the 3:30 Habitat for Humanity Open House & Blessing on March 31st for their most recently com-pleted home at 206 Tacoma Street, Logansport.

† Pastor Eckert and family should be back in the pews

on the 31st unless they are completely worn out from a week at Disney World. Thanks for sharing your fami-ly experiences at Disney World throughout the week. It wasn’t quite like being there but it was still fun to see the “Kid” in you and Heather!

Winners of the Soup Contest were

Jean Walker—Taco Soup

Amy Nice—Zuppa Toscano Your votes for your favorite soup raised

$221.75! Thanks to all who attended and par-ticipated in the soup contest.
