Have you ever felt as if nothing ever seems to go the way you hoped or planned? You have put so much energy into this or that and still chaos and stress – not the outcome you expected. Have you ever felt like a failure? Feel- ing like a failure is human nature, or better yet BECAUSE of human nature. I know that I have felt like a failure more often than I would like to admit. A failure as a husband. A failure as a father. A failure as a friend. A failure as a brother/son. And yes, even failure as a Christ follower. The feeling of failure is a plague that attacks us all. However, it does not have to be a destructive plague in our lives. Failure becomes destructive when it is given power over everything else in our lives. Power over our actions. Power over our thoughts. Power over how we see others; even power over how we see ourselves. Failure often changes our perspective in negative ways. When we allow failure to have that kind of power, our focus becomes more in- ward than outward, more on self and our problems than on others and their needs. Our perspective changes because we want to control all that brought us to the point of feel- ing like a failure. Unfortunately, by doing that, we fail yet again. However, we were not created to be failures. God tells us in Genesis 1:26 that we are made in the image of God and Paul tells us in 2 Timothy 1:7 that we were are given a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline. Paul also writes to the church in Ephesus that we are “God’s workmanship” or in other translations, “God’s masterpiece.” The work of God does not fail and is not a failure, therefore, being made in the image of God, YOU are not a failure. While we may fail from time to time, our failures are not our identity. Our identity is found in Christ Jesus. Isaiah 46:10 says, “declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose” and His purpose for your life is not of failure but of hope (Jer. 29:11). We only become fail- ures when we begin to live in that failure; when we allow that failure to build a house and become a permanent resident in our life. Believe me, I know it is much easier said than done – to not allow failure to dictate our lives. It is much easier to say we ought to live in God’s purpose and not our problems. Our problems keep us focused on our fail- ure, but living in God’s purpose helps us to learn from our failures as we become the “masterpiece” God is creating with our lives. March Chapel Chatter News Due

Tuesday, February 19, 2019

We welcomed the following “Guests” to Webb Chapel in Janu-ary. We have been blessed to have them worship with us. Please en-courage them to come again.

Eric Regan and sons have become regular visitors.

We are honored to have them join us each Sunday for Worship.

Visitors and Members were kept home with lousy

weather conditions on January 10th and 17th. Let’s pray that we may be able to worship together each Sunday from now on!

Share Some Time with a Bulldog... Kids’ Club is still going strong and impacting

the lives of first, second, and third graders at Franklin every Wednesday! In the next couple of months, some of our regular dedicated volunteers will be missing at various times. Several friends other than Webb Chapel members volunteer whenever they can. However, they also have responsibilities at their own churches. If any-one has ever thought of possibly volunteering occasion-ally, this would be an excellent time to do so. Getting to know these young Bulldogs, assisting them with home-work, and guiding them in various activities can be so rewarding!

Recently a Franklin teacher called me in the middle of a school day to let me know that a fourth grade former Kids’ Club member stopped by her room to tell her that she was trying to share the Good News about Jesus with her mother. Her mother had grown up in a foreign country. Although she had allowed her daughter to faithfully attend Kids’ Club for three years, her mother continued to tell her that Bible stories are nothing more than fairy tales. This strong, young fourth grade gal told the teacher that she will never for-get her days at Kids’ Club and continues to believe in Jesus and the lessons she learned there. Let’s all keep this special young lady in our prayers as we encourage her on her spiritual journey!

What a great opportunity we have to share some time with a “bulldog”! It could be life-changing…for ALL of us!

Marla Sellers, Director

Reclaiming the Church…

Who is it for?

Is It Broken?

Can it be Better?

Join us Sunday nights at 6:00 pm for some great conversation as we explore these questions and so much more. This series is truly an encouragement and a challenge. I hope you will join us!

s-NO-w Sundays! Thanks to Pastor Nate for putting on a dress

shirt and tie and delivering the morning message via the internet each Sunday that Webb Chapel had to cancel services due to bad weather. This gave us the chance to share in the morning message while being able to safely stay at home. If you are a “facebook us-er” you can go to Webb Chapel United Methodist Church facebook page and scroll through to the Janu-ary 10th sermon posted on January 13 and the Janu-ary 17 sermon posted on that date. It will be well worth your time. And he does not sing the scheduled hymns!

Christian Ed Meets…

The Christian Education Committee met at 6:30 pm on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Rose Ann Garrisons. Those in attendance were Pastor Nate, Sandra McKaig, Daniel McKaig and Rose Ann Garrison. We discussed working as a team. Alvin Beckman is responsible for finding teachers for the Junior/Senior High class. Marla Sellers is responsible for finding teachers for the elementary classes and Sandra McKaig is responsible for finding material and teachers for the adults. Rose Ann Garrison will or-der all materials.

February is the month we collect pre-packaged, indi-vidually wrapped, in snack and single serving sizes. All have to have an expiration date on them. These items are for patients going through chemo therapy. The hospitals do not supply any type of food for the endurance of a treatment. Many times therapies go 4 to 6 hours. We are to collect between 200 and 300 snacks. We serve 3 different facilities—Logansport Memorial, Howard Community, and St. Joseph Hos-pitals. Cass County residents may go to any for their treatments. We take to each hospital once every 3 months. The following are suggested snacks: applesauce cups, chips, cereal bars, cheese crackers, oatmeal pies, nut snack packs, fruit and pudding cups, 6-8 ounce bottles of water, spite, or seven-up, and Ga-torade or similar sports beverages. Each snack will have a Scripture verse on it to help encourage the patient receiving the snacks. There will be a tote in the entry to the Fellowship Hall to put your snacks.

Please have your snacks at church by Sunday, February 17.

Men Only!

Meeting in Room #1

Stuck If you're stuck in an invisible struggle of heart or mind, this 8-session DVD study will help you get unstuck. Author Jennie Allen provides a safe place to take a deep look inside your-self, expose it, deal with it, and find the freedom God intended for you. The study is intended to lead women to consider the truth and how it applies to their lives by using story-driven teaching, Scripture Study, and interactive projects.

33: the Series—A Man & His Design This first volume of “33” starts with meaningful insights into the current state of manhood, which will help men navigate through some realities that have created cultural confusion. It follows by unfolding God's mandates for all men and offering a clear defini-tion of authentic manhood that will help men on their journey. Each participant will learn the four "faces" of manhood and how to anticipate and transition through the specific seasons of life.

Women Only! Meeting in Sanctuary.

CHURCH FINANCIAL UPDATE

February, 2019

Please remember when church is cancelled, the bills are not.

The finance committee is always open for money-making suggestions. For 2019, the two projects sched-uled at this time are Happy Burger Chicken Bash on May 15th and Port-a-Pit Chicken event October 3rd. We are considering a garage/bake sale this summer if our church people have sufficient items to make it suc-cessful. It has been a few years since we had a garage sale. If you have items you haven't used in a couple years, they would be candidates for a garage sale. Depending on Webb's financial status, proceeds from money-making projects may end up being used to fi-nance general operation budget. Our desire, however, is to apply as much money as possible to reducing our mortgage. During 2017 we paid $16,500 extra to reduc-ing the mortgage. This past year (2018) $800 was donat-ed toward the mortgage reduction.

Although the church building was not filled with peo-ple for two Sundays in January, the sidewalks and parking areas were filled with inches and inches of snow. Until you see the cleared sidewalks and high piles of snow around the parking areas, you don’t real-ize the hours of labor Steve and Justine Nice devote to make these areas safe for anyone that comes to Webb Chapel. In addition, they make it possible for people to come and go at the parsonage.

THANK YOU, STEVE and JUSTIN for your devotion of time and energy to Webb Chapel in unpleasant weather conditions.

Presentation on Single Board Church Model — This Sunday, January 27, immediately following worship we will be having a presentation on the Single Board (Simplified) Church Model by Jack Hartman. Please review the information sent out on January 13th. If you did not receive that email please let Pastor Nate know and he will send it to you. GriefShare is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life's most difficult ex-periences. Built around a 13-week video curricu-lum, GriefShare support groups meet weekly to help you face the challenges of grief and move from mourning to joy. We will be having an Orientation/Registration on January 30th @ 6pm with the classes to begin Feb 6th @ 6pm. There are 10 open spots and we are of-fering them up to our church family first. If all 10 are not filled then we will offer remainder up to the com-munity. The cost is $15 and that is to cover the cost of your workbook. † Shirley Moss reported that Avis Moss Salee

(S.A.’s sister) is moving to the Kokomo Rehab Hospital from Woodbridge following a surgery

on her leg that was the result of a foot infection. A card or note to her might cheer her up and speed her recovery as she is anxious to get back home. (Address is Healthsouth Rehab Hospital of Kokomo; 829 N Dixon Road; Koko-mo, IN 46901.)

† Nolan “Skip” Kuker, who has been on our prayer list for

several months, passed away on January 6th. Skip’s wife is the former Ellen Williams, daughter of Bob & Darlene Wil-liams, Royal Center. They lived in Logansport for several years before they both took positions in Hancock County. Skip & Ellen had one daughter, Jordan, who is an 8th grad-er. Keep the family in your prayers.

† Alvin Beckman had foot surgery following an infection that

was the result of a dog bite and, believe it or not, Alvin ac-tually took some time off from work during the snow storms to recover. Rumor is that if he had listened to Lori in the beginning, he might not have needed the surgery or the days off! Keep Alvin in your prayers for a speedy re-covery as well as a lesson in listening to your wife!

† A “burned out” bulb in the projector for the screen in the

main part of the sanctuary on January 6th caused some ad-justments in the worship service. With no song words on the screen, members had to dust off the hymnals in the pews and locate the words—just like “old times!”

† Rose Ann Garrison has had cataract surgery on both eyes

during our recent “snow vacation from church” with the final surgery on January 22. Remember her in your prayers for a complete recovery with no complications. The next time she sees you, you should be a lot clearer!

† While Julie Zeigler admits it is nice to stay at home, as a

non-essential (?) government employee, she is also not get-ting paid—the down side to staying at home! Remember Julie and all of our “non-essential” citizens during the gov-ernment shut down that is impacting their lives.

† Ed McKaig continues to make trips to Ft Wayne to the

doctor to get his blood levels back under control fol-lowing his Thanksgiving esophagus problem. Keep him and Jan in your prayers that the doctors soon find solutions. Drives back & forth to Ft Wayne in January are not considered great vacation trips!

† It is with a sad heart that we learned that little 4 year

old Ethan Ostendorff went to be with Jesus. Ethan was the grandson of Janis Frantz’s cousin and many in the church had been praying for him and his family.

† Can anyone remember a time when Webb Chapel had

to cancel church two Sundays in a row? No offering for half of the month is something serious that we should all prayerfully consider when the offering plate is passed the next time.

† When last checking the sign up sheet for the Soup Or

Bowl Chili Cook-off, it looked like the winner was going to be none other than Pastor Nate since he was the only name on the list! Is this contest “rigged” again this year?

† Carl Simons had surgery on his ear resulting in 16

stitches. Keep Carl in your prayers for healing.

† The “Wonderful Women of Webb Chapel” will be

serving a brunch for a local organization on Saturday, Feb. 9 to make a little extra money for the church. Thank you to all who have signed up to donate food and/or work that morning to make the day special for DKG members (women teacher’s honorary society) and profitable for Webb Chapel. These women love coming to Webb Chapel!

† Doug Weese is currently at Chase in a great deal of

back pain and is awaiting lumbar tests on Wednesday. Keep him in your prayers for relief from pain.
