Study Guide for Anne Frank/Lit. Elements Quiz 1The quiz will be "open book." You must be able to do the following:

Identify the setting of Anne Frank The Diary of a Young Girl. Recognize/Identify character traits belonging to the following characters: Anne, Pim(Otto), Mother,

Margot, Mr. and Mrs. Van Dann, Peter, Dussel Recognize Anne's use of direct and indirect characterization. Know the difference between direct and

indirect characterization. Find context clues to aid in the understanding of difficult vocabulary terms used in the diary. Recognize the author's(Anne's) purpose for writing different diary entries. Possible purposes for writing

include entertaining, persuading, and informing/explaining. Identify characters as either static(does not change) or dynamic(changes throughout the story). Recognize examples of figurative language such as similes, metaphors, personification, onomatopoeias

and imagery, that Anne uses in her diary. Have a general understanding of the basic plot we have read thus far. Recognize flashbacks when they occur, and understand their significance. Understand and recognize several themes within the story. Recognize the different types of conflict that the characters face within the story. Types of conflict
