Big bang:Medieval Festival: Children will participate in a day of medieval events. They will be going on a dragon egg hunt and designing a dragon that would protect their castle. In the afternoon, children will design and make a family crest or shield in groups and then participate in a friendly pool noodle jousting competition.

Reading objectives:

Children will be listening to, discussing and expressing views about a wide range of contemporary and classic poetry, stories and non-fiction at a level beyond that at which they can read independently, discussing the sequence of events in books and how items of information are related.

Writing objectives:

We will be writing a fictional adventure story. In this, we will be focussing on how to use a range of language features to develop sentence structure. We will also be writing non-fictional texts, as well as exploring a range of poems.

Oracy objectives:

We will be improving our ability to speak fluently and grammatically to communicate in all areas of the curriculum. Children will be consistently encouraged to use full sentences in response to questions.

Reading activites:

Children will recall, review and apply known and unknown phonics knowledge to increase fluency in reading. They will be exploring reading skills through adult led sessions that focus on comprehension, inference, prediction, sequencing, vocabulary and explaining.

Non-fiction activities

Children will write a fact file based on one of the house castles. They will present information about their own mythical creatures and how to care for it in a leaflet.

Fiction activities

Children will write a version of The Egg, adventure story, using a different mythical creature while making additions and substitutions to the original story.

Science History Geography ComputingEveryday Materials:

Children will be learning about different types of materials. In particular, they will explore the suitability of certain materials for a purpose. They will conducting a range of investigations that answer suitability questions.

Castles:

Children will be looking at castles from around the world and the people that lived in them. They will have a particular focus on their house castle and its history. From this, they will be creating a information poster about it.

Local Area:

Children will participate in a local walk around Greenhithe. They will be looking for landmarks and road names in order to map out the surrounding area. Later in the term, we will be exploring beyond Greenhithe and discovering the worlds continents and oceans.

Computers:

We will most importantly be learning how to quickly turn on and log in to a computer or laptop, using our own username and password. From here, children will learn how to open given programmes. They will be exploring Microsoft PowerPoint to display information.

Character Music Art D.T.Children will be looking at Respect and Honesty. We will be focusing on the importance of honesty and how we can be honest members of society. We will also be learning about respect. We will cover how to show respect to everyone we might meet in today’s diverse society.

Hands, Feet and Heart:

All the learning is focused around one song: Hands, Feet, Heart. The material presents an integrated approach to music where games, the dimensions of music (pulse, rhythm, pitch etc), singing and playing instruments are all linked. As well as learning to sing, play and improvise with this song, children will listen and appraise different styles of South African music.

Children will be creating a representation of a dragon through different artistic mediums (sketching, watercolours and acrylic paint).

Children will be designing and making their own dragon made out of everyday materials.

P.E. R.E.Children will be covering movement skills that will have a focus on hand eye coordination. Later in the term, they will participate in indoor games.

Children will be exploring Judaism. In particular, the family life in a Jewish home, covering significant celebrations that happen within the home including the Sabbath.
