2017-2018 Edition

Welcome (or welcome back!) to the Northglenn High School Drama Department. This year is booked with tons of exciting performances, parties, and more, and we cant wait to have you as a part of it!

Special thanks to our adult sponsors and assistants who make this club great! Thank you Ren Dill, Brad Greening, Holly Greening, Karen Greening, Chuck Kite, and all of the fantastic parents who stay involved.

Keep reading to find out more about some of our biggest events of the year!

FALL PLAY

Do you love to act? The fall play is the perfect time to do so! The fall play is the first drama production of the school year. It's a super fun experience, as well as a great opportunity to get to know other drama students, make new friends, and try something new. We hope to see you there!

THESPIAN CONFERENCE

Thespian Conference, or ThesCon, for short, is an annual gathering where students from all areas of Colorado come together to learn and compete in the theater. Spanning over 3 days, students are able to participate in educational workshops, show off their talent, and see other students perform in plays and musicals or competition. Seniors at this event will have the ability to audition for scholarships and top performers will have the opportunity to perform for thousands of people!

SHOWSTOPPERS

Showstoppers is a brand new branch of Drama Club that allows students to learn in the art of technical theater and refine performance skills. Workshops occur weekly in the auditorium. Topics range from costume design to hanging stage lights to refining a performance for ThesCon with a coach. Showstoppers takes place during Thursday lunches and everyone is welcome! Please visit us at www.nhsshowstoppers.weebly.com for more information and to sign up for reminders.

TECHNICAL THEATER

The Northglenn Drama department offers more than just acting, we also offer opportunities on the technical side of theater. This includes Shop Techs that build and paint the sets you see on stage, Light Techs who will light up the stage and auditorium, Costuming Techs who will help costume everyone on stage and make sure everyone looks their best, finally, Props Tech, which adds the small details to truly make the production shine. Each provides opportunities to work after school and every other Saturday. If you are hesitant to join Drama Club because you have stage fright but still want to be involved, then look no further! You can find a place participating in a show by helping to build the show.

LOCK-INS

The lock-ins are invite only for the members of drama club who have devoted their time to working tech for the shows. These are super fun after school parties that are kind of like pot locks with a bunch of fun games. You definitely want an invite to this fun time. We stay after school and enjoy delicious food brought by fellow actors and techies. These fun after school parties happen towards the end of the production of a show. We are lucky enough to have one in the fall for the play and another in the spring for the musical! So get your tech hours in and come to lock-in!!

AWARDS CEREMONY

The Awards Ceremony is the final event of the year in the Drama Department. At every one there is a theme. People bring food and can wear costumes accordingly. Last years theme was Dress to Kill. During the Awards Ceremony students are given peer and adult nominated awards and seniors are given their exit honors. The student nominated awards range from Best Actor in the Fall Play to Tech MVP. The Awards Ceremony is also the last event for everyone to be together before the seniors depart.

ONE ACTS

What's that? You want to do more shows, even after the play and musical? Well we have the perfect solution to your dilemma: The One-acts!! These amazing shows are shorter than the other two shows in the year, (hence the name) as the plays and musicals have 2 to 3 acts, but pack an extra punch and massive amounts of fun to the end of your school year. The extra icing on this amazing cake is that each one is directed by one of four of our incredible Seniors. And yes, there are several shows! So if you would like to end the year with a bang, please audition for the one-acts!

MUSICAL

When someone says the word Musical, a few things spring to mind: flashing lights, singing, massive dance numbers, all that jazz. It's not something everyone gets the chance to do in their life, but luckily, you've got the opportunity. We do a musical every spring here at Northglenn, letting students have a shot at what goes into making a musical. From running scenes to working with all your friends on the set, it's an incredible experience that doesn't come around every day! Auditions will be November 8th this year, so get ready to sing your hearts out!

YOUTH THEATER

Youth Theater is a fun opportunity for young future thespians between 3rd and 8th grade to get involved in drama. This gives them a chance to get a taste for drama at a young age. The day includes tours, games, dancing, lunch, and even skits that the young performers get to put on themselves. The skills taught are provided by our own drama club members, which is less intimidating and allows them to be more expressive with their ideas.

Meet Your Council

TIFFANY DEEDS PRESIDENT

Tiffany is proud to be serving for her third and final year on Drama Council, this time, as president. Tiffany is excited to see what she can bring to the table this year, and hopes to make Drama Club ever more awesome. Tiffany has learned so much from being a part of this club, and is eager to learn even more. Tiffany cant wait to see all of her old friends and the new faces that will take to the stage..

MACKENZIE KITE VICE-PRESIDENT

This is MacKenzie's fourth year in the drama program. And second year on council, this year she is serving as your vice president. She hopes you have a fun and exciting experience in drama because she sure has, thanks to all the supportive and kind people in the department.

SARAH HUGHES SECRETARY

This is Sarahs second year on Drama Council, third year in Drama Club, and last year in Drama. Sarah is honored to be the Secretary of Drama Club and holds this position with deep pride. She has been involved in Drama since her Freshman year and wants to inspire others to try something new like she did, and hopefully have them fall in love as well. Sarah is also the student Costumer and holds the Costume Kermy for showing the most initiative in the Costuming department. She hopes to give this away at the end of this year to someone who will love that department like she does. She loves Netflix, history, and reading, and will always be there to try and lend a hand. Sarah absolutely cannot wait to see how much everyone grows and learns by the end of this year and wants everyone to succeed.

KATERINA BARBICH

This is Katerinas first year on council and shes super excited to represent drama club as a senior this year. She started out as an usher her freshmen year and has since become a house manager during the fall plays. She got on the stage for the musicals Beauty and the Beast (2016) and The Addams Family (2017) and the senior directed One Act Hard Candy (2017). She is so very grateful for the friends she has made through drama and how it has improved her confidence. Katerina encourages anyone, freshmen, sophomore, junior, or even senior to join drama because it will help them in so many ways. She cant wait to meet every eager person in drama this year; she believes drama club is better when it's bigger.

QUINN HALGRIMSON

Quinn has been acting since she was in second grade (though she did enjoy impersonating Molly Weasley from Harry Potter at a much younger age) and shes extremely excited to be on drama council this year! While this is her first year on the council, she has been in several Northglenn High School shows, such as Beauty and the Beast, Almost, Maine, and the Addams Family. Quinn loves being involved in theater shows, and when shes not in one you can usually find her playing violin, dancing or making bad history jokes. She's looking forward to an amazing final year with the Northglenn Drama Department!

ALEX REYNOLDS

Alex is a junior this year and since she was in the musical Addams Family she wanted to do more, be more involved in drama club. Alex has always wanted to be a part of drama but her schools never had it. When she came to Northglenn, Alex immediately took drama classes and enjoyed every minute of it so much so she took them again her sophomore year. Alex got involved with drama to make some friends and most importantly to have fun and drama is jam packed with it. Also being a part of it gives her a feeling that it is hard to describe. Alex is overjoyed to be in the council and is looking forward to the fun drama filled year that lies ahead.

ETHAN BOWEN

Ethan Bowen is a sophomore this year. He hasn't been around in drama for very long but after only two shows he found a new passion for the theatrical arts. He has been doing choir shows since the third grade so the stage is not new for him. The Addams Family Musical and the One Act 4 A.M. are his only acting experiences. This amazing group has changed him for the better and he gladly stepped up to join the ranks of the council. Ethan is happy to help in any way he can!

NARIANA NEALY

Nariana Nealy is a junior and is very excited to be a part of Drama Council. She's been a part of Northglenn High School's Drama Club since her freshman year and has loved every second of it. She very much enjoys being on the stage, as well as meeting new people and working with others. She can't wait to help improve the club and make new friends and memories!
