Instructions for candidates
This assessment applies to the assignment for National 5 Administration and IT.
This assignment has 70 marks out of a total of 120 marks available for the course assessment.
It assesses the following skills, knowledge and understanding:
using IT functions in word-processing/desktop publishing and presentations to produce and process information
using technology for investigation
using technology for electronic communication
problem solving
administration theory
Your teacher or lecturer will let you know how the assessment will be carried out and any required conditions for doing it.
In this assessment, you have to work through a series of tasks:
which will assess the skills and theory listed above
within 3 hours (excluding printing time)
in a maximum of 2 sittings where additional printing time is required, this should be completed immediately after each sitting
This is a closed book assessment. However, you can use the internet when specifically instructed to do so.

Assessment Task
You work as an Admin Assistant at Scotland Cares, a charity raising funds for the young people of Scotland. You will be working with Mr George Sullivan, the Head Office Manager.

As well as fundraising, the charity receives donations from other sources. You are responsible for planning and supporting all fundraising activities.
Your teacher/lecturer will provide you with an e-mail address.
You must:
complete the tasks in the order shown
action and delete all comments within files
display your name and task number on each printout
ensure that the e-mail printout shows evidence of sending

Task 1
Open the file Communication and complete. Print a copy.
Task 2a
Enter the following meetings and task in next weeks electronic diary. Print a copy of the diary in weekly view and details of the task.
Task 2b
On the day of the Walk-a-thon meeting you need to set up the room beforehand. Set a reminder in your e-diary for 30 minutes before the start of this meeting.
Print a copy of this task showing the reminder.
Task 3
You have received the following e-mail. Print a copy of all results.
Hi
A volunteer from Markinch will be attending the Walk-a-thon meeting at Head Office.
Search the internet to find times of direct trains to and from Markinch. It will take 15 minutes to walk from Edinburgh Waverley Station and they must arrive in time for the meeting. Include the cost of a return ticket.
They will also need walking directions from the station to Head Office.

Task 4
George is planning to give a presentation to area managers to update them on the funds raised last year and the target set for this year. Update the file Presentation using the spreadsheet file Funds and the information below.
Print one copy in handout format, with a handout footer saying, Created by your name, showing 6 slides per page.
Task 5
Design and print a compliments slip/card to be included with the fundraising packs. Use a variety of fonts and text formats.
Include our contact details and logo.
Task 6
Create a poster to encourage participation in the Walk-a-thon which is taking place in Kelso on the last Saturday in July this year. Print one copy of the poster.
Task 7
Open the file Corporate Image and complete. Print a copy.
Task 8
You have received the following e-message.
Task 9a
George has started designing a sponsor form for the Walk-a-thon. Using the file Sponsor Form, action the comments and print one copy. The form will be completed manually by participants and must fit on one page.
Task 9b
Send a copy of the updated sponsor form file as an urgent e-mail to George for his approval.
Task 10
Print one copy of the certificate showing the merge fields and one copy of a merged certificate.
