HOW YOUR MONEY HELPS

Providing adaptations for special needs

My husband Joe and I are both pharmacists, we have three children Charlotte 15, Michael 14 and Catherine 9. Joe and I met whilst studying pharmacy at Brighton and qualified together in 1995. Our daughter Charlotte has Down syndrome.

Due to the Down Syndrome Charlotte has low muscle tone and has never been able to ride a normal bicycle and in 2008, when Charlotte was 9yrs old, we were able with the help of a grant from Pharmacist Support to purchase her a Tomcat Tricycle/Trailer Combination. The specially adapted tricycle had provided many happy moments for both Charlotte and the whole family and has opened up our lives in ways we never imagined.

However, we recently noticed that her tricycle had become too small for her size, she was no longer able to keep up with her brother and sister and this had frustrated her. At 15 she had outgrown the tricycle and we needed to obtain a replacement to take her into to her adult years and for all of us to continue to enjoy cycling trips together as a family.

Pharmacist Support put us in touch with Children Today and between the two organizations they funded a new trailer tricycle combination from Tomcat for Charlotte.

Charlotte is extremely pleased with her new tricycle and has ridden both independently and via the trailer combination.

We spent a wonderful afternoon on a 20 mile cycle ride, which all the family enjoyed. This new tricycle has specially adapted gears which will enable even greater independence, whilst still being customized to her individual needs. The gears have been set specially for her to maximize her ability to cycle.

Charlotte enjoys the social interaction of being part of a group and the use of the trailer system means that she can keep up and be fully involved in the activity. She is still able to use the gears when she is being towed via the trailer, which means she can still contribute to the ride. Charlotte is extremely proud of her new tricycle and we are very grateful to both organizations for the help we have received.

Fundraising Story

Jonathan’s charity bike ride challenge Charity trustee Jonathan Mason took on the challenge in 2014 to cycle from London to Paris in aid of Pharmacist Support. His three day adventure saw him cover over 100 miles a day, tackle some lung busting climbs and impassable tracks, battle the elements, seek shelter in bushes and almost lose a pedal! Here he shares his story.Day 1I started the day bright and early with a gentle warm up to the starting point at Marble Arch. After the obligatory photos, I pulled on my rucksack, tightened the straps and set off. Soon I was out of London and onto the roads of Kent, where the traffic lightened and I was looking forward to a quiet ride to Dover, suddenly disaster struck! I was climbing a steep hill when the pedals suddenly stopped and I heard a terrible grinding, crunching sound. I looked down and saw that the rear mechanism had sheared off and was jammed into the back wheel. I searched on my phone for bike shops in Folkestone and found one where the mechanic carried out the repairs. Half an hour later, my bike was fixed and I set off again. I finally saw the English Channel, which gave me the boost I needed. I negotiated my way through Dover Docks and boarded the ferry.Day 2Fuelled by a big breakfast of croissants, bread and cheese I was ready for the journey ahead. It rained steadily from the time I left Calais, until the final hour. The clouds finally dispersed and the sun came out the time I arrived in Amiens. I ended my day in a local brasserie where I settled down to eat a fantastic steak burger, cooked to perfection, with a large portion of chips, washed down with a refreshing glass of beer. Day 3Ready for the final day’s cycling - the weather in Amiens was looking good, however, within 10 minutes things changed, it started raining and the wind picked up. I was facing strong headwinds, which occasionally changed to crosswinds that nearly blew me off my bike. There were a couple of times when the weather was so bad, I had to stop. The lowest point came when I was hit full in the face with an incredibly strong headwind and driving rain. I could ride no further, the wind was too strong. I climbed off my bike and took shelter under a bush until the wind and rain eased off. After I reached the town of Viarmes I was on the last leg of my journey to Paris. As I got closer to the outskirts, warm sun replaced the wind and rain from earlier. As I started the descent from Montmorency I rounded a corner to my first glimpse of the Eiffel Tower - I had almost made it! As I raced downhill I crossed the Seine for the first time and felt uplifted and ready for the final push towards the Arc de Triomphe.

I rounded the corner onto the Champs Elysees and headed uphill along the cobbles. Finally, just after 8pm, I reached the Arc de Triomphe. Bathed in the setting sun it was a sight for sore eyes! I climbed off my bike, sat down and reflected for a minute before capturing my moment of triumph with a few photos and texts to friends and family. The sense of achievement when I finished was so invigorating and knowing I was riding for Pharmacist Support gave me the incentive I needed when I was feeling low. There were a couple of occasions where I felt very down, I was cold, wet and lonely but knowing that I was riding to help others made me buck up and get on with it!Jonathan raised over £1000 for Pharmacist Support. If you would like to take on a challenge for Pharmacist Support, get in touch –we’d love to hear from you!

Test your Brain Power!

Everyone has sat in front of the TV yelling at Chris Tarrant that they know the answers to questions on Who Wants to be a Millionaire so hold a pub quiz fundraiser and find out who really is a Blockbuster, A Question of Sport or Secret Fortune star.

How to Guide

Location The first thing you will need to do is contact your local pub and discuss holding a quiz there. Most landlords and bar managers will happily allow you to hold an evening if you believe you can get a large number of people through the door. They will be most keen if you can promise to do it in the middle of the week when the pub is most quiet. Once you have agreed on a date you need to agree that all of the proceedings from entering the quiz will go to Pharmacy Support and all takings on the bar will be kept by the pub. It might be worth asking if they could provide food at a set cost of £5 which you could build into your promotional activity. One of the best charity pub quizzes in London costs £10 to enter and you get Bangers & Mash thrown into the bargain. You can't argue with that!

Fundraising With the location secured you now need to consider how much money you are going to try and make from the evening. If you have negotiated a meal ticket so to speak with the pub you now need to add the cost of the quiz to the total and this is your price per ticket. £10 is a very reasonable price with the food built in. On this basis your aim should be to get 20 teams of 5 through the door, this will make you £500 from your event and the bar manager will be your friend for life.

Questions Most pub quizzes require at least 80 questions in 4 groups of 20 to make a night out of it and you should look at 4 different areas to test people on. Therefore decide on General Knowledge, film, music and sport for instance and then start building a list of questions from here. There are a number of great websites that you can use to help build your quiz and some that have readymade quizzes that you can use.

Promotion You need to drum up support for your evening and there are a number of ways that you can do this. Firstly use your own social network, setup a Facebook event and invite all of your friends to join you, then get all of your friends invite all of their friend too!. Tweet about your event remember to use #175hero @pharmacistsupport and maybe think of your own hashtag to let everyone know about the event. Contact local newspapers and radio stations and try and get a mention where you can as this will drive in people from the general public who fancy themselves as a bit of an Egghead. Don’t forget to tell us about the event so that we can get the message out there too! A quick Tweet from us could get more people to your night. Finally try and turn it into a work place or Uni social as well, enlist the help of your boss, lecturer, or anyone else who can get people out for a drink or two as you can often get a

good number of people that way. Use the poster in our Hero Power Pack to advertise the night and get them up everywhere.

On the night You will need to arrange the equipment to facilitate the Quiz so you need pens, paper, (ideally with question numbers already printed on) and any visual aids if your questions require them. You will also need to make sure that the pub has a microphone system that you can use, otherwise with a pub filled with 100 people you will need a very loud voice. Decorate the pub with the supporting material found in our Hero Power Pack, the bunting, balloons etc. Get each team to come up with a team name for the evening and away you go. Ask the questions in groups of 20 and then have a break, this break is used to swap teams answer sheets with other contestants and mark them. You must do this otherwise you might find that at the end of your quiz a number of teams have full marks thanks to Mr Google!

Added Extras When putting on these evenings you should try and build in plenty of added extras where you can. Raffles are always an easy way to add value to your evening. Ask a few local businesses if they will donate a prize in return for a mention on the night. Charge £2 a ticket with all proceedings going to your charity.

FinallyMake sure that you thank everyone involved. Let everyone know they are a 175 Hero you may just inspire others to sign up to be a 175 Hero too, by taking on a charity run or perhaps start a monthly donation, so keep this at the forefront of your mind when hosting this the event.

After the eventLet us know how much you have raised and send it over to us!The easiest way is via just giving as these donations come directly to us so you don’t need to do a thing other than get your friends to donate. To set up you’re just giving page visit http://bit.do/justgiving175hero click fundraising for campaign and follow the easy instructions. Gotta Sing Sing

If the X factor, Britain's Got Talent or The Voice is your cup of tea then why not combine your love for singing good and bad with your fundraising exploits. There are so many Karaoke companies out there and setting up one of these evenings could not be easier for the average Joe, so build this into your 175 fundraising plan.

How to Guide

When organizing a Karaoke night there are 5 key things you will need to do to ensure the night is a big success. You can of course keep everything very simple but try and be creative as the more work you do the more money you will bring in at the end.

LocationThe location for your Karaoke night fundraiser is vital and the easiest option is your local pub. They have the space the setup and they serve drinks and food. All you need to do is strike up a deal. The simplest thing to do is to offer to organise everything and agree that you only take money from the Karaoke activities and you will bring a set number of people through the door.

OrganizationThe great thing about a Karaoke evening is that all you need to do is higher the Karaoke equipment and you are 90% of the way there. Tell them that you are doing a charity fundraiser and ask if they can do a special price as it is for a good cause. You will need to be prepared to host and encourage people to take part or enlist the help of a confident friend who can sing to be the front man/woman for your evening while you work on collecting money for Pharmacist Support. Decorate the venue with our supporting material, bunting, balloons etc. to help people connect Pharmacist Support. You will need to arrange a prize for the best and worst singer of the night as this will encourage people to enter regardless of their ability. Once you have covered these areas you will know the total cost of your evening and it is time to work out how much you need to fundraise to make a suitable profit. Normally you will be able to higher the Karaoke equipment you need for about £150 so that plus a couple of prizes will take you to the £200 mark. Therefore you need to be making at least £500 from your evening to make the evening a success. You can either ask for £5 on the door or charge a set price per song e.g. £2.50. On this basis you need to try and promote the evening and bring at least 100 people through the door.

PublicityYou need to drum up support for your evening and there are a number of ways that you can do this. Firstly use your own social network, setup a Facebook event and invite all of your friends to join you. In addition to this request that all of your friends invite all of their friends as this can significantly increase your numbers. Contact local newspapers and radio stations and try and get a mention where you can as this will drive in people who you do not know yourself who fancy transforming into Madonna, Brittney Spears, Michael Jackson or Robbie Williams for the night. Don’t forget to tell us about the event so that we can get the message out there too! A quick Tweet from us could get more people to your night. Print off the poster from our Hero Power Pack and put them up everywhere. Finally try

and turn it into a work place social as well, enlist the help of your boss or anyone else who can get people out for a drink or two as you can often get a good number of people that way.

#175 BAKE OFF

Bake off is bigger than ever and one fundraising idea that is always popular is a Cake Sale. It's time to channel your inner Mary Berry or Paul Hollywood and get into the kitchen. Your culinary delights can take a large bite out of your fundraising target and is a fantastic way to boost your fundraising total.

How to Guide

Find the Perfect space

Think carefully about what kind of space you need, indoor or outdoor, big or small, what facilities do you need? Don’t forget to tell the venue it’s for charity, they may give you a reduced rate. Then set the date, find out if there are any other events coming up that you can piggyback on. Make sure you have given yourself plenty of time to get everything sorted, and for people to get the date in their diaries. Pick a date that is easy for people, like a weekend – or a Friday, if you are doing something at work.

Make a Budget

Work out what you hope to raise, once you’ve covered your costs. If you need equipment, see if you can borrow it rather than buying stuff. On the day there are a number of things you will need, tables, knives, tongs, bags, plates, serviettes, change, black or white board. Remember to use our labels, bunting, balloons and cash box from our Hero Power Pack. You can also cut cost by asking local businesses to donate prizes.

Set your target and spread the word

Once you’ve set your fundraising target let everyone know! Tweet it using #175hero @phamacistsupport, why not take selfies of yourself in your Mary Berry mask and tweet it out! Set up a Facebook page and invite all of your friends and get them to invite all of their friends too! Seeing how you’re progressing helps inspire people to give generously. Tell people why you’re doing your event, your personal reasons will really help motivate your supporters. If possible write a blog about your progress. It doesn’t have to be a masterpiece, it just keeps your supporters involved. Try to get a little press coverage, this is of course great for your sales but more importantly it is great for us too.

Safety in Numbers

Now you need a number of volunteers to help you, so Mum, Dad, husband, friends from work the more the merrier. You don't want to be making all of the cakes yourself so get everyone to bake their own cake and you can crown the

Page 10: pharmacistsupport.orgpharmacistsupport.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Fund…  · Web viewOne of the best charity pub quizzes in London costs £10 to enter and you get Bangers &

winner Star Baker! If you get 10 friends to do a couple of cakes each suddenly with no effort you got a lot of cake to sell! Once they have helped make the cakes now you need to persuade them to help you sell them.

Add extra value

Why not add cups of tea or glasses of squash and increase the average fundraising pledge. Add an element of fun to the day so why not get everyone to dress up as Mary or Paul and wear the Masks. It will just make parting with money for charity that little bit more fun. Name your cakes, not boring names like Dave the cake! Think about the sunrise sponge cake or tinker-bells fairy cakes, just be inventive. Think Showstopper!!

Think about your pricing

Plan to have a set price on all of the cakes until a certain time of the day and then drop your prices as you don't want to be left with a ton of unused cake.

Finally

Please make sure you thank everyone that helps you with your fundraising and that includes everyone who buys from your bake sale as on the day you are representing your charity. Good Luck!

Remember

Have a list of ingredients for people with allergies and use the cake flags and labels in Hero Power Pack to label your nut-free or gluten-free bakes.

Bring enough spare change and make your cake prices round numbers to make things easier.

Make up recipe cards and sell them alongside your cakes to raise a bit of extra cash. You could make your Bake off something bigger like a swap or a quiz

Don’t forget if you’re stuck for cake ideas you can use our Easy Peasy Strawberry Cheesecake recipe from our very own Information Officer Wendy!

Swish Swish Swish

Have a Swishing Party! Swishing is a way to have a clear out and get a whole new wardrobe!! Swishing literally means to rustle, and by this we mean for you to rustle from your friends. All you need for a successful party is friends, friends of friends and perhaps work colleagues. All of the people involved need to be willing to part with items that they no longer wear or use. Usually clothes, shoes or accessories. There are 3 kinds of swishing parties you can have:

How to guide:

Option 1: The simple swishing partyThis one is fuss-free, open to everyone and should ensure plenty of stock. Ask everyone to bring along any items they no longer want. Neatly display similar items together and ask your guests to browse and choose as many items as they like.

Option 2: The specific swishing partyThis is a good option if you are looking for a particular item. Ask your guests to bring a specific type of item, e.g. party dresses, suits, children’s clothes, maternity clothes, accessories or shoes. You could hold a series of swishing parties and choose a different type of item to swish each time.

Option 3: The special swishing partyThis is the option if you have some special or expensive items that you would be proud to pass on. Ask your guests to bring at least one high quality item. Give your guests one ‘token’ (e.g. button or ribbon) for every item they bring. Allow your guests to browse and when someone chooses an item, ask them to pay one token for it.Running a Swishing party is simple, just follow the Rules of the Rail

Everyone must bring at least one item of quality.

You will have half an hour to browse before the swish opens.

No item may be claimed before the swish opens.

As soon as the swish is declared open, everyone may take what they want.

Remember no scratching, spitting or fighting(Rules taken from swishing.com)Ok, so how do you raise money through Swishing?

Charge your friends an entrance fee to the event of £5 to £10

Page 12: pharmacistsupport.orgpharmacistsupport.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Fund…  · Web viewOne of the best charity pub quizzes in London costs £10 to enter and you get Bangers &

Organise a raffle, one simple prize such as a box of chocolates or a bottle of Prosecco will do the trick

We will send you any supporting material you need to help encourage your friends to dig that little bit deeper when they are asked for further donations.

How to guide

Invitations

University Fundraising

Support us – make us your charity of the year.

We will work closely with you to ensure that you are supported throughout the year. This can range from providing fundraising materials to specific fundraising advice to help make your events a success!

By partnering with us, your RAG can make a real difference in the fight against childhood cancer.

RAG week!

Holding a RAG week provides a fantastic opportunity to focus your fundraising efforts and really get people engaged in making a difference to children with cancer.

We will support you throughout the week by providing fundraising materials, tips and advice.

If you like, Emma our dedicated Fundraiser, will come along to your RAG week and speak to students about the vital research that you are helping to fund.

To find out more [email protected] or call Emma 0161 4410317

RAG raid bucket collections are a great way to raise money as they are simple to organise and can be really fun!

If you’re a part of a RAG we’re more than happy to organise the permit for you – just let us know where and when you want to collect and we’ll get organising! Give our fundraiser Emma a call email [email protected] or call Emma 0161 4410317

7 easy steps to holding a RAG raid

Choose the date and location of your collection – we advise you try to get a Saturday as that’s the busiest day on any high street! If you know the city you would like to collect in think about where exactly would be busiest? Near a particular shopping centre? Or on the high street?

Get in touch with your local council to apply for a street collection permit. You can normally do this by visiting their website and either downloading or requesting a form.

Once you have filled out the application form, the council will take a couple of weeks to confirm the date with you.

As soon as the date is confirmed please let Emma, our fundraiser, know the date of your event and if there are any fundraising materials you need!

We'll be in touch with you in the run-up to your event and to answer any questions you may have.

Ask your friends to get involved and help shake a bucket on the day!

Once the collection is completed get in touch with us to arrange to pay the money in and get your well-deserved thank you letter and certificate!

Support us on your special occasion

If you've got a special occasion coming up - a wedding, birthday or anniversary - why not ask friends and family to make a donation to Pharmacist Support in place of a gift to you?

How to support us at your special occasion

Let us know when your special day is and we can send you the materials you need to make it a successful fundraising event

We can send you posters, balloons and collection boxes to decorate your venue with.

Set up your own Just Giving page and send the link to your friends and family via email, asking them to donate.

We can send a thank you to anyone who has kindly donated in lieu of gifts for your special occasion - just let us know on the ‘Gifts in Celebration’ form.

After your event, we'll let you know how much has been raised from your special occasion.

Take the 175 Hero ChallengeWhatever you’re level of fitness we are sure to have a challenge to suit you. We have an amazing calendar of events lined up for our 175th Anniversary year 2016. So why not take on one of our hugely popular challenge events. We hope to see you for a life-changing experience soon!

Running Challenges

If you want to run to raise money for charity but don’t want to jump in at the marathon deep-end there are still plenty of options open to you. A 5k fun run is the perfect distance for novice runners, and we have a 5k Santa Run in Manchester every December. A step up from that would be a 10k or even a half marathon; both tough events but still very doable if you put the training in. You never know, you might find yourself loving it experience so much that you are inspired to run a full marathon. We have guaranteed places in the London Superhero Run in May, and the 10k London Santa Run in December. Or how about the Glasgow half Marathon in October?Running the gruelling 26.2 miles of a marathon will be an experience you remember for the rest of your life, and raising money for the 175 Hero Campaign while you do it will only serve to make the day even more special. If you start your fundraising well before your race then it’s possible to raise a huge amount of money, and we will offer much needed help and encouragement along the way in return. As an added bonus at the end of your marathon journey you’ll be stronger, fitter and healthier, burning off over 2,000 calories in the race alone. How about taking part in the Brighton Marathon in April or the Robin Hood Marathon in Nottingham!

Cycling Challenges

Cycling helps you get fitter, can be done relatively cheaply all over the world and is a great challenge to raise funds for Pharmacist Support, I mean what’s not to love about a long distance charity cycle ride? The miles you will be covering are also a great excuse to get a friend involved in the challenge as well, which will mean you don’t get bored on the long rides and the 175 Hero Campaign gets double the money – everybody’s a winner! How about taking part in the London to Paris ride in September or if you want something a little nearer London to Brighton in September or take on 3 of the best European Cities, London – Bruges- Amsterdam in August!

Swim for Charity

Make a splash for Pharmacist Support by taking part in a sponsored swim. This can be done in an indoor pool, or for the more adventurous amongst you there is the option of a challenging open water swim. Not only is swimming a great money-raising challenge for charity, as a non-load bearing activity it is also the perfect way to recover from any injuries you might have, as well as reducing stress levels. Why not try the Great Manchester Swim in Salford Quays in July or the Great Scottish Swim in August or sign up for the Wales Swim in July!

Trek for Charity

Not many people can say they’ve trekked 3 peaks, or tackled the dramatic slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro, so taking part in a charity trekking expedition can be a once in a lifetime opportunity, and if you’ve got the time and dedication to take on the challenge then it’s an absolute must for adventure lovers who want to make a difference.

Skydive

Imagine standing at the edge of an open doorway in an aircraft flying at 10,000 feet, now imagine leaning forward out of that doorway and letting go - falling forward into the clouds, down through freefalling at over 120mph! Well stop imagining and sign up to a tandem skydive. No experience is required as all training is given and if you raise the minimum sponsorship you can receive your skydive for free! So why not experience the thrill of a lifetime and join us on our 175 Hero Jump in September!

Challenge the Challenger!

If you really want to challenge yourself, then a triathlon or Tough Mudder competition could be perfect for you. With different disciplines and a range of distances, there is an event to suit everyone! Or how about Gung Ho 5k? You may have seen something like it on TV, or dreamed up an obstacle course with your friends. Well your dreams can be reality with ten amazing inflatable obstacles over 5k, the finale is Europe’s biggest ever inflatable slide!

Social Media Guide

Raising money via Facebook

1. Create an event on Facebook and invite all your family and friends to join -

remember to include a personal message in your invite so they don’t feel

‘spammed.’ This is a great way to gather all your supporters and potential supporters in one

area. Don’t forget to include your http://bit.do/justgiving175hero fundraising page link.

2. On your event page, try suggesting various sponsorship amounts to your audience. Take the pressure off them! Let

them know what various amounts will help you achieve your £175 mission. If you’re not sure, get in touch and ask us

– we are always happy to help you out! Remember to include some lower amounts and higher amounts.

3. Post your http://bit.do/justgiving175hero fundraising page link to your Facebook wall. Let everyone know what

you’re doing - and if they’re unable to donate themselves, ask them to share your page link to their own network to

help it go even further.

4. Tell your story on your event page. Tell people what you’re doing and why it’s important to you. People love to hear

the reasons behind your endeavour so be personal! What you’re doing is brilliant and you shouldn’t feel shy about

sharing it with all your friends.

5. Upload photos, share yourself in action with your Facebook friends! Show pictures of the cause you care about and

inspire them with your passion.

6. Make a video! Use your smartphone to record a short video (a minute or two is plenty!) to show your face and speak

to your willing audience. Really inspire them to want to help you raise as much as possible.

7. Everyone’s on Facebook – we are too – https://www.facebook.com/pharmacistsupport - ‘like’ our page, post on our

wall and connect with us! We want to hear from you and love to feature all the hard work you’re doing for us.

For all the latest gossip check out the Pharmacist Support Facebook page. If you’ve signed up to be a #175 Hero and are fundraising for us post it on your wall and we can work together to let everyone know how fabulous a hero you are!

Raising money using Twitter

1. Tweet your http://bit.do/justgiving175hero fundraising page link to your

followers.

2. Ask followers to RT or retweet your message. You can share your page link more than once,

but remember not to bombard your followers.

3. Update your Twitter bio to include your fundraising story - and while you’re editing your profile, why not add your

fundraising page link http://bit.do/justgiving175hero as your dedicated website?

4. @message your friends, celebrities and us https://www.twitter.com/pharmasupport and get everyone to retweet

your link. This way, you are getting exposure to as many networks as possible! (You might be surprised at how many

people are happy to do this)

5. Send DMs as well! You can make these more personal since they’re not public. Tell them about your page and cause,

ask for their support - get their help to spread your inspiring story.

Twitter is a great way to instantly get your message out to the masses and is a rich sauce of instantly updated

information. If you’re tweeting about your event or you want a quick way to get your message out remember to

hasttag @pharmasupport and #175Hero

Raising Money on Instagram

1. Capture your passion! Take photos that show the reason behind your

decision to raise money for Pharmacist Support. Choose powerful images

which represent the cause you care

about. Let your supporters in to why you’re fundraising and the importance of your cause.

2. Behind the scenes! Keep your followers in the loop with your preparation - if you’re running a 10k or cycling

London to Brighton, show them all those mornings and evenings you’re sacrificing with humorous pictures and

captions

3. Map your progress by geotagging your Instagram posts. It’s a great way to showcase where you’ve taken your

photos and also make them available to others who visit the same places. It’s great to use at large events like

marathons.

4. Show what you’ve done. Upload photos of your event - this will really help when asking for donations just after

the event has taken place - proof of what you did and the fun you had doing it.

5. Hashtag your photos. Be sure to use our #175Hero hashtag and use other hashtags that are relevant to your

event so that your images pop up in other people’s Instagram searches.

6. Share across platforms. Link your Instagram with Facebook and Twitter so that when you upload a photo, all your

friends across all your networks can see it and be inspired to give!

7. Screenshot yourhttp://bit.do/justgiving175hero fundraising page. Putting up a photo of your page is a brilliant

way to show your followers how they can get involved and donate. Just remember to include your page link in

the accompanying comments.

Instagram is a fabulous way of sharing your photos and videos instantly. The videos and photos go directly to

your profile and news feed. Other users who follow you will see your posts in their own feed. Likewise, you'll see

posts from other users who you choose to follow. Remember to hastagtag @pharmacistsupport on all your

pictures!

Raising money using email

1 While social media might be easy - email raises more! People are more

likely to give to you when you ask them via a personal email. Don’t be afraid to do both!

2 Update your email signature to include your http://bit.do/justgiving175hero fundraising page link and a short story

of what you’re doing. Ask your friends to do the same! It’s such a simple way to reach more people with every email

you send.

3 Send out personalized emails to everyone in your address book - doing it individually takes longer, but it’s worth it!

Let everyone know what you’re doing and give them the opportunity to share in your passion AND help you raise

money.

4 Thank everyone that’s given money to your cause. Send them an email to show your appreciation and keep them in

the loop with how their sponsorship has made a difference. It doesn’t hurt to ask them to give again, either.

5 Send more than one email. Don’t bombard your address book, but don’t give up after a single email either! People

sometimes need a small reminder of the awesome cause you’re raising money for and how you’re doing it. Try

sending two emails in the lead up to your event and one post-event email.

6 Send an email to everyone after your event, letting them know how it went. Include photos and videos if you have.

Make them feel proud of giving to you, because they should be! Remember to include your fundraising page link in

case anyone wants to make another donation.

7 Reach out to the charity you’re raising money for. Tell them what you’re doing and our story - they’ll be very grateful

and might want to feature your efforts on their webpage or social media
