1DOCUMENTS OF THE CALASANZ MOVEMENT

Manifesto of the Calasanz movement

"We Piarists, religious and lay people, gathered by the father in the name of Jesus, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and faithful to the inspiration of José de Calasanz, we are sent for Christ and for the Church to evangelize in educating. So we declare that:

1. Jesus is the center of our Movement. His message of love, his lifestyle and his generous gift are for us the reference in our educational and pastoral action.

2. The Virgin Mary, for her simplicity and humility, is a model of acceptation and abandonment to the will of God. She teaches us to live as children of God and disciples of Jesus.

3. God has given a valuable carisma to Calasanz which illuminates our reading of the Gospel. From the history, spirituality, pedagogy and proper style of the pious schools, we realise our mission of evangelization in educating.

4. Youths are the immediate and first apostles of themselves. Their initiatives offer us a valuable dynamism in our mission.

5. Education, the full human and Christian realization, as well as the happiness of children and young people are the core of our mission.

6. In faithfulness to Jesus and Calasanz, we offer ourselves to the cause of Justice and Peace, with a preference for the poorest and younger ones of the society.

7. The reform of the society lies on a good education. We are inspired by the thinking and educational practice proposed by Saint Joseph Calasanz.

8. The piarist charisma is a gift of God for the Church and the society. The Fraternity of the Pious Schools is a rich proposal for religious and laity who share the carisma, and make it present wherever we find ourselves.

9. The urgency of announcing the Gospel to children, young people and adults leads us to create pastoral itineraries lived in groups, and enabling a personal process of discovery and maturation of their vocation as well as a clear ecclesial insertion.

10. Passionate about our piarist life, we always carry out a pastoral vocation. We offer our vocation as a proposal of ecclesial inclusion, either as piarist religious or as members of the piarist Fraternity.

2The Logo of the Calasanz movement

1 INTERLACED LINESThe logo is composed of a series of intertwound lines that symbolize a road, a process and an itenerary. The lines are different, different colors, as is the reality of the Calasanz movement: different continents, provinces, contexts and ecclesial realities. The movement do not pretend to mix up pastoral and work, instead it enriches existing and required diversity. All lines are essential to form the whole, and all the lines together, despite their diversity, form a recognizable unit.2 LINES THAT LEAD TO CHRISTLines (processes) have a destination toward which you walk: the encounter with Christ, symbolized by the cross. But the cross is made up of the same lines that represent the road, the vital and vocational process of the young people and groups that form it. This has a double meaning. On the one hand, it symbolizes that the road is Christ himself ("I am the way, the truth and the life"); on the other hand, it has the ecclesial meaning that we all form the body of Christ in the Church.3. THE BOATInterlaced lines define the silhouette of a boat. In the Gospel, the boat is always a symbol of the community. The Calasanz Movement operates in the community, the means (group process), and the goal (outlet) of its pastoral process. And Christ (cross) is present in the boat. Remember the Gospel, what happens in the "community boat", when Jesus is inside and when Jesus is out (or asleep). We want to sail with Jesus well awake in the middle of the community.4 CALASANZThe above mentioned points are colored by a charisma, the Piarist, which leads us to be and to act in a concrete way in the Church, in the world, and in the Pastoral. Our boat has a clearly recognizable name, which we identified as: Calasanz.

3The ideology of the Calasanz movement

IDENTITY

The Calasanz movement is the communion of groups of different demarcations throughout geography, that are united in the same educational and evangelical proposal, inspired by the spirit and style of Calasanz.

This movement wants to reinforce the existing realities, putting them in connection to each other, in order to enrich themselves mutually, to gain in the piarist identity and to offer pastoral horizon to those in need of it at this mement.

The Calasanz movement supposes a continuous path of different experiences and for all ages that aims to enable a personal process, lived in group, discovery and the maturation of faith and vocation, as well as a clear ecclesial insertion.

This process includes specifically the piarist offer of an outlet in the Pious Schools in its various forms, especially in religious life and the Piarist Fraternity.

KEY ELEMENTS OF THE WAY

The evangelizing action cannot be isolated actions, but a process where vocational life Project is concretised and shared in the community.

The charisma of Saint Joseph Calasanz and of the Piarists orientates the pillars of the educational process of the entire movement.

The fundamental elements, always present in the most convenient way at all stages, interrelated with the perspective of the following of Jesus in the style of Calasanz, are:

• The personal encounter with the Lord in prayer, the sacraments, the Word of God, the Christian and faithful reading of reality, close solidarity with the poor, community, ecclesial and piarist history, and personal commitment.

• A lifestyle from the keys of the Gospel, in the following of Jesus, always looking for the vocation to which God calls us, and adapting our lives to his proposal in an attitude of permanent conversion.

• The human, Christian and piarist formation that allows you to be able to give reasons of our hope and embody the Piarist and Christian values once we’ll grow as persons.

• Service to others and commitment to the construction of the Kingdom of God, especially with those who are most in need, from the intuitions of Calasanz

Page 4: €¦ · Web viewLines (processes) have a destination toward which you walk: the encounter with Christ, symbolized by the cross. But the cross is made up of the same lines that represent

4• Share the following of Jesus and all aspects of life with the brothers and sisters in

small groups and communities, in clear communion with the Pious Schools and with the whole Church.

STAGES

The Calasanz movement is a group journey for all ages whose horizon is active, and the adult ecclesial insertion. throughout the process, and especially in the final stages, make present the offering of the Piarist religious life and Fraternity.

Each person, depending on the time and situation, will become his/her own process by taking advantage of this community journey, always from the guidance of the team of educators.

The stages of the journey, with the names that, in each place are more convenient, can be:

• Children: from the first age in which convene up to 12 years approximately will do basic learnings, and values, habits and attitudes are sown in them.

• Pre-adolescence (12-14 years) where take importance in personal and Christian socialization as important reference and membership models.

• Adolescents (14-18 years) where the personality will be crystallised, based on assumed values and life choices which are taken. An attractive piarist proposal is essential to continue in the process, especially at the end of the school stage...

• Youth or adult catechumenate where, with the style and methodology appropriate to the age, deepens in the keys to the following of Jesus, and where the decisions of life that this implies are accompanied.

• Vocational discernment and/or ecclesial insertion, where we search for the place to which God calls and where the final Option by the community of reference that will be accompanying everyone throughout their lives is made.

There are several calls throughout the different stages of the process and according to different situations.

• It can be coexistences, preparation for a sacrament, change of school stage, beginning of the school year, in masses, through "mouth to mouth", new invitations to those who have been in the process previously, from volunteer and solidarity actions...

• It can be to those who are nearest to our schools, parishes and works... and also other persons furthest away from the Church and the Pious Schools.

• It implies a missionary attitude rather than specific actions, which are also required and are to be planned and carried out.

5ALSO WITH ADULTS

In addition to the youth, we also offer a process of maturing in the faith and in the piarist mission to teachers, families, partners in our piarist works (schools, parishes and works of non-formal education).

They are not groups of indefinite duration, but processes with a clear destination. The stages can be: convocation/call, deepening and discernment with piarist perspectives in its various forms.

Both ways: juvenile and adult, will coincide more and more in the advanced stages of the process, sharing common elements.

THE WAY OF THE CALASANZ MOVEMENT’S STYLE

The style of the Calasanz Movement will be outlined with time, but it is worth noting some necessary methodological principles:

• Active Pedagogy with the participation of the members

• Itenerary of experiences, discoveries: prayer, social, relational...

• Integral education and adapted to the age

• Personal accompaniment

• Accompaniment of the entire ecclesial community

• Support of elders for the course of the younger ones

6• Streshing the hand into the pocket

• Relationship with the piarist school, work and community

• Participation in the local church and in the life of the Demarcation and the Order.

TEAM OF EDUCATORS AND FORMATION

The entire piarist Christian community is responsible for these processes, ensuring its development from the stage of call until the final stage. It is an important aspect that should be made visible frequently.

Educators can receive different names according to the place and the sensitivity of their journey (Catechists, monitors, pastoral agents, companions, animators, coordinators and leaders,...).

Some necessary features in these educators:

• Be a volunteer, with the sense of gratuity and without recompensation

• Have adequate formation and continually updated

• Have a clear piarist identification with the style of the Calasanz Movement

• A consistent Christian life

• Participate personally in advanced stages of the process

• Work in team of educators.

Stages of formation

To carry out a pastoral movement, it is necessary that all persons responsible for it have an dequate formation. To do this:

• The preparation of educators should be complemented with personal, spiritual and piarist formation which will be received in their various groups in a constant way.

• Initial Formation: At the moment of beginning educational work or before to convocation of new educators, deepen and purify the motivations, describe the work to be developed, and deepen the vocational nature of this task.

• Basic Formation: To make it possible with the recognized qualifications in the country, in order to know and master the different facets of the educational and pastoral task: evolutionary development, piarist formation, technical educators, knowledge of this process, the youth pastoral methodology, pedagogy of faith, containts of faith, notions of personal accompaniment,...

• Permanent and specialized Formation: In the team of educators and depending on the personal qualities and needs of the moment: readings, reflection on the team of

7educators, analysis of the reality, theological and educational updates. Propose

specialities for persons with greater responsibilities: responsible for the Organization, deepening on the personal accompaniment,...

• We think that it is fundamental to implement the "advanced course of piarist pastoral" in order to train those who will assume greater responsibilities in the Calasanz Movement, who will also take care of the relationship and sharing with other institutions.

ORGANIZATION OF THE CALASANZ MOVEMENT

The Calasanz movement has a team coordinator to put it into action and organize the first steps.

As soon as possible, it is convenient to have a person responsible in each participating demarcation, that assume the invitation of the set-up of the Calasanz Movement in its demarcation and maintain a fluid relationship with the Coordinating Team.

What does it mean to form part of the Calasanz Movement?

A. Before joining the Movement...It is necessary that the Demarcation and its pastoral leaders assume the task and commit themselves to organise life as expressed in the Manifesto and the ideology of the Calasanz Movement, and to incorporate their necessary and specific contribution in the construction of the Calasanz movement.

Page 8: €¦ · Web viewLines (processes) have a destination toward which you walk: the encounter with Christ, symbolized by the cross. But the cross is made up of the same lines that represent

8B. At the time of joining the movement...

1. The Demarcacional Congregation must approve the incorporation of the pastoral processes of the demarcation in the Calasanz Movement, and shall communicate it to the coordinating team.2. The Demarcation shall appoint a demarcacional leader who will coordinate with the coordinating team of the movement. The demarcacional coordinator’s functions are:

o To be in the coordination with the pastoral organization of the demarcation, with the Congregation and the Council of the Fraternity.

o To encourage that there is a person in charge of the movement in each presence of that demarcation and who coordinate the activities.

o To be a channel of information and contact with the coordinating team of the Calasanz Movement (put in the web news, documents, share the network...)

o To enhance the courses of initial and basic formation of the educators, as well as the advanced pastoral course...

o To maintain the update of basic data of the movement in the Demarcation: the register of different persons in charge, register of the number of youths and groups, the register of the people who make up the advanced course.

o To participate in the meetings of those responsable of the programming.3. The demarcation will define a plan of implementation of the movement and send a form to the Coordinating Team that will include presences, persons in charge of these presences, stages or ages with which we can begin. The dead line of the delivery is June 15, 2013 (see the possible form).4. The demarcation may maintain, if it desires, the traces its pre-existing pastoral processes (names, logos, hymns, ideology, etc...), but in incorporating that of the Calasanz Movement. Far from being a mere formal matter, it has to search in the pastoral agents as well as in children and young adults of the processes, an identification with the Calasanz Movement as a great family of Piarist Ministry at a universal level.5. Much importance needs to be given to the the launching of the Movement in the Demarcation and in each one of the presences. For example:

o Inaugural celebration, with the send-off of all the educators and the persons in charge

o Presentation to the educative community (teachers, representatives, parish pastoral council...)

o The set up of organizational dynamics: the team of leaders...

C. And once incorporated into the movement...1. The person in charge of the movement in the Demarcation, along with the Coordinating Team will lead in the progress pastoral dynamic of the Calasanz Movement. The reference person of the Coordinating Team for America is Juan Carlos de la Riva and this could be of help... (movcalasanzscolopi.net)2. To the extent of which different aspects are taking shape in the Demarcation, they will share with the entire movement:

o A description of the teams of animators.o Concretisation of the stages of the processo Methodologies to be usedo Plans of formationo Meaningful experienceso Convocation/Callingo Goalo ...

3. It will be essential to ensure the profile and the adequate formation of educators and persons in charge. At the local level, in every presence:

o All educators who occupy any responsibility in the coordination of the Movement must do the advanced course of the pastoral of the Calasanz Movement, of the Fraternity, religious community...

o All candidates must do a course of motivating initiation at the momento of the call to the Mission of educator.

o All educators must complete basic formation which accompanies the first years of their work.

o Proposals for permanent formation for all educators in the exercise of their task, in the framework of functioning of the group of educators.

At the zonal level, demarcacional or interdemarcacional:o All educators who assume some responsibility for coordination in the movement

must do the advanced course of pastoral care of the Calasanz Movement.o The course will depend on formative proposals for all its different versions

(possibility of online modules)

10o The advanced course of Youth Ministry of the Calasanz Movement will be

certified by the Order.

4. There will an active participation in the communication platforms of the Movement as a fundamental means of network; tease relationships; create a common body; share resources, news, reflections, experiences, etc... (www.escolapios21.org; www.movimientocalansanz.com; facebook: Piarist 2.1).

5 The links/bonds of the Calasanz Movement will strengthen with the religious communities, with the Fraternity, and the organizational structure of each demarcation:

o Adequate participation and leadership of the religious and the Fraternityo Adequate articulation in the life and organization of each provinceo Possibility of inclusion in Itaka-Escolapios, as a platform of shared mission.

6. The Calasanz Movement also contemplates the proposed itenerary for adultso The keys are the same as those of the Calasanz Movement for young people.o In the case of adults, it is important to take care that the route for the connection

to the Pious Schools has an open outlet; priority will be given to the Fraternity, but other modes of school links will also be offered.

o These processes must be led by religious communities and/or the Fraternity, and a special care should be taking in avoiding proposals that are out of demarcacionales projects. The fraternity assumes as its proper mission the creation of these spaces of spirituality and mission for adults.

o There are interesting experiences which can be shared and adapted.
