KEY POINTS:

Eclipse - takes place when one heavenly body such as a moon or planet moves into the shadow of another heavenly body.

Kinds of Eclipses1. Solar Eclipse – occurs when the moon comes in between the sun and the Earth casting a shadow on the planet.

a. Total Solar Eclipse – for a total eclipse to take place, the sun, moon and Earth must be in a direct line.

b. Partial Solar Eclipse - happens when the sun, moon and Earth are not exactly lined up.

2. Lunar Eclipse – occurs when the Earth is between the sun and the moon casting a shadow on the satellite.
