EEBS #1 Horse Learning Booklet – Chapter One, Horses

Taken from “Leaders Manual, EEBS, Edition One” pg. 3

Introduction to EBSDear Girls,

This book is a tool girls can use to encourage each other in femininity, your role in the family, and much more. It is designed to help girls live for Christ in a unique way. When

I was making this I wasn’t sure how long to make it, but God helped me put the chapters together of my first EBS (EEBS) together with 12 meetings. It turned out to be the perfect amount, having one meeting a week, allowed me to do it with someone during the school/winter months, while not having to be too busy with it during the canning, planting, harvesting, and summer/fall months! I hope you and your partner enjoy this new tool the same way my sisters and friends have! This EBS compares horses with Christian life, making living for Christ more dynamic and unique!

Love,

Allison Dougherty

HorsesHorses are amazing creatures that God created for us to enjoy. I personally believe they can be a tool for His children to learn about Christian Life here on earth. They have been used in the past for a number of different things, including farming, delivery, transportation, fighting in war, etc.; recently they have been being used for enjoyment and competitions. Jesus is even going to come back to earth on a white horse! (See Revelation 19:11-16)

Horses come in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes, as well as character and temperament. They were created from dirt by the Word of God. Different horses are capable of doing different things; for example without a draft or work horse we wouldn’t be able to haul heavy things. Without race horses or endurance horses you wouldn’t be able to go quickly from place to place. Without light breeds we wouldn’t be able to teach others and use them for enjoyment.

This is not a common topic to talk about, but horses are widely used around the world; mostly before cars were invented. Treating a horse with patience, long suffering, kindness and meekness will result in a horse that is enjoyable to work with. Most comparisons between horses and Christians can be found using this method and understanding the definitions for them:

About Me and How I got started with HorsesMy name is Allison Dougherty; I am a child of the awesome, living God! He has changed my life in so many ways and without Him this book wouldn’t even be possible. I have accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and

Saviour, for without Him I can do nothing!

I live with my family, in an old farmhouse, in the middle of nowhere, in Ohio.

I have liked horses every since I was really young and remember times when I would just stare at horses. I used to seize every opportunity I could in order to do something with a horse. One evening, while in a hotel with my family, my grandpa calls; he tells me he would be willing to pay for horse lessons if I

wanted to take them! I thought, “no way, really!”

Page 10: Web viewAlso, if you happen to see any mistakes in this manual, don’t hesitate to let us know. I’ve used a couple books that have mistakes in them and they are

The first place I took lessons was at a friend of a friend’s house. She didn’t

have safety or time in consideration; therefore we decided to move to a bigger barn which is where I think God started changing my life. I learned a

lot there and I immediately liked the instructor; she ended up turning into my role model for the time being. I wanted to be just like her; little did I know

that wasn’t in God’s plan.

To make a long story short… my instructor assigned to me a horse I could take to the fair of which I immediately fell in love with! Her name was Minnie

and that’s all I could ever talk about. After showing in open shows and the fair I wanted to get more involved with horses. I started hippoligy, tried

getting involved with IEA (interscholastic equestrian association), tried to go

to as many shows and clinics as I could; notice I said started and tried… God never really let me get involved with all that stuff.

Eventually, my parents paid for my lessons and leasing in order for me to spend as much time as I could with Minnie! After some time my parents

were going to try and buy her! Somehow, some things were done to where we had to leave Minnie and the barn she was at. I was hysterical; I loved

Minnie, she was like my first horse!

Page 11: Web viewAlso, if you happen to see any mistakes in this manual, don’t hesitate to let us know. I’ve used a couple books that have mistakes in them and they are

My parents and God knew of my grief and therefore started looking for other horses they could buy for me. I called around to so many places, we went to

so many barns, yet none of them could replace what I had already lost.

Finally, I found Hemingway, as soon as I saw him, I loved him and that’s all I could think of until we bought him. He never has and never will compare to any other horse on the planet. He is the smartest, most intelligent horse I have ever met! God really cares for my wants; and now look at what I’m

doing… writing about what God has done for me with horses!!!

This is by no means a full story at all! There are so many more details and things I could write about, but I figured that belonged in another book since

it could take up so much time and paper! Hopefully God will continue to work in my life using horses like he has ever since I was born.

Thank you all for reading!

The Lord bless thee and keep thee and make His face to shine upon you!
