From the Pastor’s DeskNovember is here and as the leaves turn, the Fall season leads us to

reflection on stewardship in church life, the managing of the gifts God has given us for our own living and to be used to enable the work of the church and bless others. This year we are using a video series in worship to watch a fictional family, the Donovan’s, come to understand what it means to take risks so that they can depend on God and live generously. They are realizing the joy of giving God their finest

rather than their “stinky sheep” and that true generosity is more than just giving some money. When Jesus said, “Whoever loses their life for My sake will find it,” He was talking about giving your time, treasure, talent, comfort, space, thoughts, every part of your life by seeking to use them for Him. Living generously isn’t just a financial commitment, it is a commitment of your whole life. We are moved to make this commitment in response to God’s generous love to us, shown most powerfully in Jesus and the gift of salvation He offers.

November also calls us to reflect on our gratitude with the Thanksgiving holiday. It is a time to get the family together and join in thanksgiving to God for all the blessings of the past year and for the best blessing of all, Jesus Christ our Savior! As we approach this holiday season, let us seek to remember the things that we have to be thankful for. No matter what physical possessions we may or may not have, or the current state of our lives, we are all blessed by God’s love for us. God has given many known and unknown blessings and it is right to praise Him and to come with thanksgiving. I hope that we remember our blessings not just once a year, but every day and I hope that we respond to God’s love with thanksgiving not just once a year, but every day as well, thankfulness should be a natural state of being for those who have encountered the love of God. Through the history of the Church God’s people have been marked by their spirit of hope, love, and generosity because of the change God makes in their lives through Christ. Let us continue to keep true to this pattern and be thankful in all situations and generous with our time, talent, and finances. I am excited and looking forward to the things that God will do through those who live with an attitude of gratitude and who are willing to be formed and directed by the Holy Spirit. Have a great Thanksgiving.

God Bless, Pastor George J. Kafer

P.S. All are welcome to attend, members may vote.

A Sound Money Management PlanGod desires that we live balanced lives. God knows that money can cause us problems, both

the lack of it and letting it rule our heart. The 10-10-80 money management principle helps us keep things in check and honor God. Tithe 10% of our income to God through the Church, save at least 10% of our income for future needs, and then live off the remaining 80%. Doing this grows our relationship with God, helps enable the ministry of God’s Church, and helps us have financial freedom.

The idea is to give to God and live within your means; don’t borrow money for something that is not a need, instead, save up for it. Don’t fall into the trap that says more stuff equals more happiness and don’t think that what you have is just yours and ignore God’s financial directions. All that we have is a gift from God and earned by the talents and skills God has given us. In our culture money can be an idol, which holds the center spot in many people’s heart; God wants that spot, and following the Biblical model of tithing is an expression of gratitude and a tangible way to put God first and help carry out His will.

Those who have learned to trust God in tithing have found that God is faithful to provide. For your own spiritual growth and the growth of our church, I pray that that you will join Cassandra and me along with others at Christ Church in following a money management plan that allows us to be good stewards and God honoring with our income. Please turn in your 2017 pledge cards by Nov. 27. Thanks & God Bless, Pastor George

Apportionment GivingChrist Church has a history of 100% apportionment giving, allowing us to help transform lives by God’s love. Apportionments provide for ministries that directly help over 50,000 people in Wisconsin and many more beyond. In 2016 our apportionment is $43,872, if we each give faithfully to the general fund and if able a special gift for apportionments, $180 a year per member, we can continue to support connectional ministries and free up more of our general funds to increase outreach and ministry in our local area.

Stewardship Makes a Difference!Thank you for all the ways you support ministry. This newsletter has examples of how our church is making a difference in people’s lives through your giving! It is good to see people trusting in God and answering His call to give. People are offering themselves to serve and their financial giving (several tithing 10% of income, or working toward tithing)! Check the connection table for Electronic Fund Transfer forms and ways to give of your time and talent as well. As you respond to God’s call in the giving of your time, talent, and resources remember if you have a need contact Pastor George.

Three ways to assist the Holy Communion Food Pantry in November.

We will donate our Change for Change (loose coins in offering plates) to the Food Pantry and we will also be collecting canned and boxed food in the cart placed in the South entryway. And finally, we will send our Thanksgiving offering to the food pantry. This is an important local charity that helps feed many local families. Members of our church help out at the food pantry on a regular basis as well. Thanks for helping those in need at this time of year!

-------------------------------------------------------------The next St. Richard’s Dinner is November 8th,

look for a sign up in the south entryway to help - donate food or to serve at the meal.

RIC is in need of drivers to drive others to the polls on Tuesday, November 8th. Even helping a portion of that

day will be helpful. Call either Tammy Hayward or Nancy Holmlund to volunteer to help on

Election Day 2016.
