Discrete Subjects: Literacy & English – To create an imaginative story using descriptive language. To look at creating podcasts. To listen and respond to an audio stories. To explore synonyms, powerful vocabulary, settings and mood Spanish – To respond to instructions key direction in Spanish and to be able to communicate to others by using directions in Spanish. Numeracy- To subtract using different strategies such as bridging. Using the ENL and the standard written method up to five digit numbers. Maths- - To use one-minute times past/to the hour. To look at five minute times past/to the hour. We will look at time durations, problem solving and timetables. Health and Wellbeing- We will continue to work on our Building Resilience programme through this term’s topic ‘Be Kind to Others’. PE- To look at decision-making, communication, respect & tolerance within a game setting. RE- We will be learning about the significance of the mass and the meaning of Christmas. We will learn about Advent. Expressive Arts – To create a tartan that will be used to recreate a famous Russian Landmark. Ethos and Wider Life of the School: At Holy Cross we are very proud of the many ways that we help other people, develop our awareness of the world and learn to be responsible citizens. In P5 we’ll have the opportunity to: *Participate in Mass at school and learn to pray. *Develop good relationships. *Learn about the importance of pupil voice. *Participate in weekly assemblies. *Participate in pupil groups *Learn about our rights as we work towards the Gold Level RRSA. *Build Resilience – Be Kind to Others *Building links with Trinity House Interdisciplinary Learning: We will be focussing on a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) project linked to Geography. Literacy – To write an imaginary descriptive story set in St Basil’s Cathedral in Russia. To read and research key information about Russia and St Basil’s Cathedral. Science – To compare my local area against Russia, I can investigate the main features of weather and climate discussing the impact on living things. Technology – To build a replica of St Basil’s cathedral. Maths – To look at the shapes used to build the turrets in St Basil’s Cathedral. To look at the use of tessellation within the Cathedral. Expressive Arts –To recreate one of the painted murals inside St Basil’s Cathedral. To use clay to re-create the tiles used to decorate the inside of St Basil’s Cathedral. Planned Opportunities for Wider Achievement: As well as getting the chance to learn in lots of different ways by making, saying, writing and doing, we’ll also get the chance to learn through different experiences. We will participate in: Gold Medal Award and Values certificate House Points Owl Tokens for following the playground charter Outdoor learning including the Daily Mile Christmas Service Outright Campaign (Global citizenship) We will share achievements from after school clubs Sharing our learning with the rest of the school ..
