We only have 2 spring babies this month, but Terri has a big birthday this year a (hint it is between 40 and 60!).

A birthday cake will be given to Alma to share in Hammersmith House for her birthday this month.

Alma Terri

We all wish both of you our best wishes on your special day.

SUNDAY 1st SEPTEMBER

Man: How old is your father? Child: As old as me. Man: How it is possible? Child: He became a father only when I was born.

A little boy asked his father, "Daddy, how much does it cost to get married?" Father replied, "I don't know son, I'm still paying."

How do fathers exercise on the beach? By sucking in their stomachs every time they see a bikini.

Dan: I made a bad mistake today and gave my dad some soap flakes instead of corn flakes for breakfast.Jan: Was he mad?Dan: Yup. He was foaming at the mouth!

How is the baby bird like its dad? It’s a chirp off the old block.

Who's the Boss? While having their evening dinner together, a little girl looked up at her father and asked, "Daddy, you're the boss in our family, right?" The father was very pleased to hear it and confidently replied, "Yes my little princess." The girl then continued, "That's because mommy put you in charge, right?"

Who is the Winner? The father of five children had won a toy at a raffle. He called his kids together to ask which one should have the present."Who is the most obedient?" he asked."Who never talks back to mother? and"Who does everything mother says?"Five small voices replied in unison. "Okay daddy! You get the toy."

A grandfather was delivering his grandchildren back to their parents one day when a fire truck zoomed past. Sitting in the front seat of the fire truck was a Dalmatian dog. The children started discussing the dog’s duties. “They use him to keep crowds back,” said one child. “No,” said another. “He’s just for good luck.” A third child brought the argument to a close. “They use the dogs,” she said firmly, “to find the fire hydrants.”

Why did grandpa put wheels on his rocking chair? He wanted to rock and roll!

Cheryl will leave chocolates in Hammersmith House for your enjoyment.

Thoughts from the Chairperson

Hello Everyone, well here it is nearly the end of August, it doesn’t seem like a month has passed since I was writing my July Report. We have had a fairly busy month with a lot of activities to keep you occupied and help forget that it is so cold outside. Only a few more days before Spring has sprung and then we can hopefully look forward to some lovely sunny days.

All the regular activities, Bingo, Craft, Mahjong, Men’s Club, Pot Black, Cards and the Book Club along with Dr. Jack, Terri’s meals, Podiatrist, and Sandra, our Hairdresser all seem to be well attended and enjoyed by those who attend these activities and what a nice way to spend an hour or so with some friends. Our Birthday Morning Tea as usual was well attended. Thank you Cheryl and the committee girls who make this function a very happy occasion.

We had a very lovely visit from the Little Unique Clothing Boutique with her bus and all her lovely clothes. Some of the residents went home very happy with some lovely new outfits. Lisa’s visits are always very welcome at the village. Our shopping bus to Park Centre was enjoyed by all who went and most found something they liked and better still there were lots of things on sale.

Don’t forget to follow the tips given at the “Stay on Your Feet” function that Cheryl has organised for us. This talk will help us to understand that it is important to stand up slowly and pause and get your balance before taking a step, plus many other things which help us to not fall over. And last but not least we still have our Fathers’ Day Function to come. We had the Magician last year and he was very clever, even tricked Cheryl! He is coming with a different show to last year, but I am sure it will be just as enjoyable.

I have had a request from Mala, the Beautician, asking if anybody is interested in her services. Mala comes to this village on the 3rd Wednesday of each month and visits you in your Unit. Her Charges are very reasonable and she is very nice. If you would like any of her services please phone her 0433 117 950 to make an appointment. If you lose her phone number contact myself or the office.

That is all from me until next month, keep warm and well.

Regards. Marg

SEPTEMBER SPECIAL EVENTS

Bus TripThis month we will be traveling by coach (room for everyone) using the Cascade Bus service and off to Chittering Valley. We are leaving from Waddell Road at 9am. First stop will be the Golden Grove Orange orchard for morning tea and tasting of fresh juices which may be purchased if you wish. After this stop it will be all aboard the bus heading off to the Stringybark Winery for a relaxing 2- course lunch. On our way home Chris will be taking us somewhere for a treat and we should be home around 4.30pm.The cost for this trip is $62.00. Cheryl will be attending this trip as we do hope to have a few guests on board as well, so potential residents can enjoy our wonderful hospitality. Look forward to having a fun day out with you all.

Fire TrainingI urge all residents to attend this training session if possible, we give out vital information. This will be held on Tuesday 3rd September starting at 11am in Fontenay Hall. We only have one external contractor attend the village a year as it is quite expensive to have this education so please support it.

First Aid Training & First Response This talk we held last year for the first time and was very well received. We are holding this education again so we can all refresh our memories and be able to assist not only with your fellow neighbours, but pick up some helpful tips for grandchildren, friends and family members. When : Monday 9th September at 11am in Fontenay Hall

Dutch Singers

Thursday 12th September 2.30pm followed by afternoon tea. For those who have not seen or heard the Dutch Singers before you should slot this into your planner. The performances are delightful and all dressed in traditional Dutch costumes. Joy and Margaret who have both recently moved into care will be coming in for this concert and it will give us all a chance to say farewell to these two residents who have lived here for such a long period of time. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Emergency BagJust a reminder that all residents really need to have a bag packed and ready to take with you if you are required to go to hospital.Suggested items:

Sleep wearUnder wearSlippersToiletry bag with essential itemsAny other items you think are vital to youAsk your pharmacy to provide you with a list of your current medications which you should keep on the fridge

This bag would also be useful if we have an evacuation emergency so other items could include a change of day clothing.I do stress that this is something you should action TODAY, don’t leave it, as tomorrow never comes😊

Medicare Numbers

Last month I put a call out for you to please check your personal information, next of kin, phone numbers etc. the response for this cross check has been very low and I know we have several incorrect/incomplete numbers. Can you please bring your actual Medicare card up to the office so we can correct this?I look forward to the stampede!

A Word from Cheryl

Blueforce Pendants – they really don’t like going on holidays. So, when going into hospital or on vacation please leave your pendant at home, this will save me getting daily reports about loss of communication with your pendant.

I’m expecting the cold weather to pass soon and spring to get into action. We will start getting quite active in the gardens over the coming weeks so please put in your requests in for your area if there are any things you would like addressed.

It appears of late that a few visitors to the village are parking in other resident’s car bays. You as the resident, are responsible for where your guests park, so please cross check with them especially if they are new to visiting you. It appears some are under the sad impression that a unit number = a car bay number. Also remind your visitors that speeding within the village grounds is not permitted.

We will be holding our little memorial event for Kurt on Sunday 6th of October at 3pm. After we say a few words we will be having a sausage sizzle. Kurt’s family will be coming along, if any resident would like to speak please let me know so I can arrange a space for you. More details will be in next month’s newsletter.

Thank you for assistance with the recent white ant inspection undertaken by MRP. I’m sure you will all be pleased to know that we have no unwanted guests residing in our village.

Monique would also like to say thank you for the response to our recent resident’s survey, she is currently collating all the information and once completed the results will be distributed to you.

I’m planning for our open day in November and will happily take suggestions from any resident who have any ideas on what they would like to see and this event. I’m not doing lunch this month, but tea instead, please see the menu.Cheers Cheryl

Annual Bulk and White Good Collection

The collection for our area is due on the 16th September. It is time now to look around and do a quick spring clean, if your TV, bed, fridge or washing machine are “groaning” perhaps now is the time to replace it. We can start putting things out on the verge from the week beginning 9th September.Kevin and Lee will assist with any heavy items, just record your requests at the office.

Football Grand Final – SATURDAY 28th SEPTEMBER

The traditional meat pie will be on offer for lunch on Grand Final Day, please place your order if you would like to join in with the football fun.

Hard to know who will make the Grand Final but perhaps the Eagles will make it but they have a bumpy road ahead, sadly no hope for the Dockers, Jimmy…… Better luck next year, I think I say this every year!

Project Marmalade

We are now in the final stage of Project Marmalade where we require a volunteer with lovely handwriting to write the label for our jars.

If you can assist, please see Terri or Janine.
