OBJECTIVES:
Watch the water cycle video
Discuss various processes in the rain cycle
Study maps of different areas affected by rainfall
Answer questions about what was learned
Instructional Input/Procedures:
1. TTW play video on the water cycle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gY9HG8zUgOE
2. TTW will ask the students if they know where the water that they use comes from.
3. TTW ask students if they know that not every place receives the same amount of rain.
4. TTW ask students examples of different places that receive different amounts of rain.
Guided Practice/Activity:
1. TTW will explain to the students that the difference between a desert and a rain forest.
2. TTW ask if the students know how much rainfall a desert and rain forest receive.
3. TTW show pictures of rain forests while explaining that it receives 68 to 78 inches of rain a year.
4. TTW show pictures of a desert while explaining that deserts only receive 10 inches of rain or less per year.
5. TTW tell students that the average rainfall of Baton Rouge is 61 inches of rain per year and is a deciduous forest.
Independent Practice:
1. TSW break into groups of four to work the assignment.
2. TSW find classify pictures as Desert, rain forest or deciduous forest.
3. Groups will create a Microsoft paint document of their favorite Biome as they finish their work.
Closure/Questioning:
1. TTW ask the students how much rain a desert and rain forest receive.
2. TTW ask the students how much rain Baton Rouge receives.
3. TTW ask what the Biome for Louisiana is.
Materials:
· Pictures of rain forests, deciduous forests and deserts
· Computer
· Multimedia
Accommodations:
· Behavioral needs will be met by whole group activities and preferential seating.
· Repeated directions and individual assistance will be used.
