War Week 1
Opener: Everybody remembers a bully from school or at least some
big dumb kid who tried to be a bully. Tell your group about your
school bully.
Read: 1 Samuel 17
The story of David and Goliath is one of the most famous in the
Bible. To summarize the story, David, a young man without armor or
huge weapons, takes just a sling and goes to battle against the
Philistine champion, Goliath. Goliath was a giant of a man. He
stood over 9 feet tall with body armor, a javelin, a shield, a
spear, and a sword.
Goliath tried to use intimidation, domination, and deception
against his opponent. David used his faith in God. God won!
In case you missed it Sunday, here is a picture of Goliath’s
sword.
Discussion:
1. If you got to see the sword Sunday, tell your group what you
thought about it.
2. Tell about a problem or person you encountered that was
bigger than you and you knew only God could help you through it.
Tell your group what he did.
3. What do you need to stop trying to do by yourself and let God
take control of?
Prayer:
God help us to always have faith in you, help us to let you work
through us in every obstacle we encounter in our life. Thank you
for forgiving our sin and using us.
