future. With AIT Night and Inductions here, we have a lot to look forward to. I feel a strong sense of leadership from the younger members of the chapters, so I look forward to hearing plans for

IC RECAPBy Sid Astrachan

This year I had the privilege to experience BBYO’s International Convention and I 100% recommend going if you have the opportunity to do so. This year it was in Dallas, Texas and there were over 3,500 teens there from around the world. Not only was it awesome to make friends and network, but it was also awesome because we had the chance to do many cool things. One day, we even visited the Dallas Cowboys training facility and met pro bowler Jaylon Smith, which was a very cool and unforgettable experience. There was also an opportunity to go to a 180,000 square foot indoor water park. Also, there were many great speakers, including many different civil rights leaders and groups fighting for equal rights. There were also actors such as Jesse Eisenburg, who played Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network, and even YouTube sensation David Dobrik. IC is an overall great experience that I definitely recommend.

THE BIGGEST CELEBRITIES OF WINTER/SPRING

A recap of the top 5 biggest names from recent months

1. Kobe BryantNBA Shooting GuardOn January 26, the world was shocked to learn of the death of NBA legend and future hall of famer Kobe Bryant. He was killed in a helicopter crash near LA.Bottom Line: Mamba mentality foreverQuote: “ Great things come from hard work and perseverance, no excuses”

2. Michael Bloomberg2020 Presidential CandidateWe’ve all seen his ads. The former New York City mayor entered the presidential race late, spent $500 million on the campaign, had a bad Super Tuesday, then immediately dropped out.Bottom Line: Money isn’t everythingQuote: “It’s no fun to protest on an empty stomach”

3. Billie EillishRecording ArtistAs much hate as she gets for being the stereotypical emo kid, Eillish has had a remarkable 2020. On January 22nd, Zion finally made his long-awaited NBA debut. Ever since, he has been on a tear. In fact, he is now is the second most likely player to win rookie of the year, behind only Ja Morant. Bottom Line: The hype is realQuote: “I’m just doing me”

What BBYO Means to MeBy Danny Kass

Just the fact that my parents are Jewish made me different. Growing up in “The Burg” there weren't many Jews around so I grew up in a Christian environment. Granted, the schools tried to be inclusive, but I'm pretty sure the only reason there was anything celebrating Hanukkah was to prevent a lawsuit. Even still, every year all my friends would ask me all sorts of questions about being Jewish and Hanukkah. The smarter kids would even try to teach me about my own faith, most of the time being wrong.

When my older brothers joined BBYO, though, I knew that there were other people who were also asked questions like “do you speak Jewish”. Most of the time I now say yes and when they ask me to speak some Jewish I just say “Baruch atah adonai, elochanu melech haolam…”. When it was finally my time to join it was everything I had hoped. My brother had brought me to a chapter meeting and I was instantly greeted by several people, half of them I didn’t even know. We then went into the meeting and did all these weird crazy things that would probably make any bystander tell us to get a therapist. We were all Jewish however, so all these wild little traditions brought us together even more. BBYO made me realize how great it is to be Jewish. Like really, who doesn’t love brisket and latkes. Screw some fat dude in a chimney, give me Hanukah Harry.

All in all, BBYO is something special. If you don’t believe me now, stick around for a little bit and you will soon. Because we are Jews. And what could possibly be better than a shit ton of Jews all together. The answer is absolutely nothing.

SPORTS UPDATEI am sad to say that, in wake of the

coronavirus pandemic, literally all sports have been cancelled for the time being. The NBA, MLB, MLS, NCAA, and NHL have all postponed their activities. There is no word as to when the seasons will return, if at all. In the meantime, the athletes have been keeping busy quarantined in their

apartments. It sucks to be without sports, especially when we are stuck in the house, but it is for the best. It would just not be a good idea to have games during this time because countless people could get infected. In fact, Kevin Durant has just been diagnosed with the virus.

In other sports news, Tom Brady is headed to the Buccaneers. Not much to say about that. It is what it is.

Tournies UpdateOnce again, we are losing out on yet

another activity because of coronavirus. Tournies, arguably the most anticipated convention of the year, has been

cancelled. Again, this is for the best in order to keep everyone safe and healthy, but it is still unfortunate. If you did not know by now, the theme for the convention was fast food restaurants and our chapter was supposed to be Jones BBQ and Foot Massage. It was going to be really fun and entertaining to do, but unfortunately that is just not possible anymore. Stay safe and wash your hands everyone!
